Investigation tools and story
The in-game tools include an electromagnetic field reader, an infrared camera and a spirit box. The infrared camera displays a thermal overlay to help players search for cold spots. These are mechanics within the game; Netflix does not say players need to buy or use real paranormal-investigation equipment.

The story follows the Cooper family, who arrive at the inn while grieving. Netflix’s description mentions missing dolls, a daughter hearing her deceased mother’s voice, a ballerina music box that plays by itself and a séance. The threats include Vinea, described as a demon that feeds on grief, and Florrie, a ghost drawn from English folklore. Those details describe the game’s story, not evidence of real paranormal events or an independent account of folklore.

Do you need to watch the Conjuring movies first?
No. Netflix says, “You don’t need to watch the movies to play The Conjuring: Unspoken.” The company adds that familiarity with the films may make the experience more rewarding because familiar faces appear.
Netflix places the game in the film universe built around paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Its announcement describes the franchise as four main films plus spin-offs at the time of publication; that franchise count may change as new installments are released.

The announcement explains the phone-and-large-screen setup, but leaves several practical details open.
