Yes. Public disclosures from both companies show component supply running in both directions, though the two flows involve different Samsung units and are documented in different filings. Apple has said it is working with Samsung on chip technology at Samsung’s Austin, Texas fab. Samsung Electronics has listed Apple among the suppliers of tempered cover glass to its display subsidiary, Samsung Display (SDC). Neither disclosure gives a full picture of which products use these parts, so the accurate answer is “yes, in both directions, at the level the companies have disclosed.”
Samsung to Apple: chips from the Austin fab
Apple’s American Manufacturing Program announcement, dated August 6, 2025, says Apple is working with Samsung at Samsung’s Austin, Texas fab on a new chip-making technology. Apple says the facility will supply chips that optimize power and performance in Apple products, including iPhones shipped worldwide.

The announcement stops there. It does not name the chip, state a production volume, or say which iPhone or other Apple models will carry it. Treat it as confirmation of a manufacturing relationship and a stated product destination, not as a parts list.
Apple to Samsung Display: cover glass
The other direction appears in Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter interim report, in the supplier materials table for SDC. The filing identifies cover glass as tempered glass and names Apple and LENS among Samsung Display’s suppliers. It also records a purchase-price share of 14.3% for cover glass within SDC’s listed raw-material purchases.

This is a Samsung-reported supplier entry, and it has three limits. It does not name the Apple legal entity involved. It does not identify the glass manufacturer. It does not say which receiving device models use the glass. Apple is listed as a supplier to Samsung Display; nothing in the filing shows Apple making the glass itself.
The two flows side by side
| Direction | Where it is disclosed | Component | Samsung unit named | Receiving product |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung to Apple | Apple, American Manufacturing Program announcement, August 6, 2025 | Chips made with a new technology at the Austin fab | Samsung’s Austin, Texas fab | Apple products, including iPhones shipped worldwide; specific models not stated |
| Apple to Samsung Display | Samsung Electronics 2026 first-quarter interim report, SDC supplier materials table | Tempered cover glass | Samsung Display (SDC) | Not stated |
The table shows why the two flows should not be merged. They come from different documents, one company’s statement and the other’s filing. They involve different Samsung units. Neither shows the same Apple entity participating in both.

Why rivals can still trade parts
Apple and Samsung compete in finished smartphones, but that does not prevent supply relationships in components. Apple describes its supply chain as one in which suppliers provide parts and components, such as displays, batteries, and chips, that Apple assembles into its products. A company can buy a component from a competitor’s subsidiary while competing with that competitor’s devices. The supplier relationship and the device rivalry are separate arrangements.
This is the core of the “complex” part of the relationship. The two companies are rivals at the product level and counterparties at the component level, and public filings only document the component level in narrow slices.

What the disclosures do not show
- No parts list. Neither document provides a bill of materials or a model-by-model supply map.
- No volumes or share of Apple’s supply. The Apple announcement gives no chip volume, and the Samsung table gives a cover-glass purchase share only within SDC’s own listed raw-material purchases.
- No complete supplier base. Apple’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended September 27, 2025 describes a global outsourced manufacturing network and warns that some components come from single or limited sources. A public overview therefore cannot be read as a full sourcing ledger for any one company.
- No entity match. The Apple announcement refers to work with Samsung at the Austin fab, while the reciprocal supplier entry is reported under Samsung Display. The companies have not tied the two together.
Context on Apple’s U.S. manufacturing figures
Apple’s 2025 announcement also says roughly two-thirds of the components it makes in the U.S. are exported to customers outside the U.S. That figure describes Apple’s U.S.-made components overall. It is not a measure of Samsung’s role in Apple’s supply chain, and it should not be used as one.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in the same August 6, 2025 announcement: “At Apple, we believe in the power of American innovation and manufacturing, and we’re proud to partner with even more companies to produce critical components and cutting-edge materials for our products right here in the U.S.” That remark concerns Apple’s manufacturing partnerships in general. It does not single out the Samsung arrangement.

How to cite the relationship accurately
- Say that Apple has announced work with Samsung at Samsung’s Austin fab on chips for Apple products.
- Say that Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter report lists Apple among suppliers of tempered cover glass to Samsung Display.
- Do not describe Apple as the glass manufacturer, and do not say which Apple or Samsung legal entity is involved in either flow unless a filing names it.
- Do not name specific iPhone or Galaxy models as using a Samsung-made part unless the company has said so.
