What is the story?
Maya is a young woman facing financial pressure who accepts a job at a newly opened branch of Risa’s boba shop. The premise begins with ordinary work under warm lights, colorful drinks and familiar shop sounds, then makes those routines feel increasingly oppressive. The official descriptions point to difficult customers, negative reviews, uncomfortable conversations, strange noises and other unsettling events.

The developers describe Refill as a standalone story in the world of the original The Boba Teashop, rather than a direct sequel or recreation. It has a new protagonist and location, and the developers say players do not need to know the original. In an interview with Insider Gaming, published October 1, 2026, the developers said the story spans one week; storefront descriptions more generally refer to multiple workdays.
How the boba-shop gameplay works
The work routine is central to the horror setup. Players take orders, follow recipes, add ingredients such as tea, milk and boba, seal drinks and serve customers. The developers also describe keeping the shop clean and trying to keep customers happy. Customer demands and reviews add another source of pressure as strange events intrude on the familiar tasks.

The developers say they want players to learn the shop’s normal rhythms before those expectations become unreliable. That makes the drink-making routine more than a backdrop: it is the ordinary pattern against which the game’s psychological tension builds.

What the developers have said about presentation
Serafini Productions said development began in 2025 in collaboration with Mike Ten, creator of the original The Boba Teashop. The team describes Refill as a separate story in the same world, with a new narrative and setting rather than a retelling.
The developers also describe full voice acting, facial animation and a more cinematic presentation as features that expand on the original. These are developer-stated details, not a substitute for hands-on evaluation of the finished game.
