The answer depends on what counts as an AI company. In a dated public-market snapshot, NVIDIA was the largest AI-related listed company at $5.51 trillion on 28 August 2026. Among private AI labs with company-announced financing valuations, Anthropic reported $965 billion in May 2026 and OpenAI reported $852 billion in March 2026. These figures use different valuation methods and dates, so they are not a synchronized ranking.
Which companies count as the biggest AI companies?
There are two useful groups to distinguish: diversified public companies with substantial AI exposure, and private companies built primarily around AI. The first group can be ranked by market capitalization; private AI labs are commonly described by their latest priced financing valuation. A broad public-company list may include chip designers, cloud providers, software developers, autonomous-systems firms and digital platforms. It should not be read as a list of companies whose only business is AI.

The figures below make that distinction explicit. The public-market values are from Capital.com’s snapshot dated 28 August 2026; the private-company values come from separate funding announcements in March and May 2026.
Largest listed AI-related companies in the cited snapshot
Capital.com’s 28 August 2026 ranking puts these four diversified public companies at the top of its selected AI-related shares:
#1 Best Overall
| Company | Market capitalization | Snapshot date |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA | $5.51 trillion | 28 August 2026 |
| Apple | $4.59 trillion | 28 August 2026 |
| Alphabet | $4.13 trillion | 28 August 2026 |
| Microsoft | $3.75 trillion | 28 August 2026 |
Capital.com’s ranking is a dated market snapshot, not a live feed or a claim that these businesses are AI-only. Market capitalization is calculated from share price and outstanding shares, so it moves as share prices and exchange rates change.
Private AI companies with announced financing valuations
Private-company valuations are different from public market caps: they are generally tied to a priced funding round or transaction rather than continuous trading.
| Company | Announced valuation | Related financing | Announcement date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | $965 billion post-money | $65 billion Series H | 28 May 2026 |
| OpenAI | $852 billion post-money | $122 billion in committed capital | March 2026 |
Anthropic announced its valuation in its 28 May 2026 Series H announcement. OpenAI announced its valuation and committed capital in March 2026. A post-money valuation reflects a financing context; it is not equivalent to the value investors can observe moment by moment in a public share price.

- Different valuation mechanisms: Public market caps derive from traded share prices and outstanding shares. Private valuations reflect a priced financing or transaction.
- Different dates: The public snapshot is 28 August 2026; Anthropic’s and OpenAI’s figures are from May and March 2026.
- Different company scopes: The public ranking includes diversified firms with substantial AI exposure, while the private examples are AI labs.
- Different update frequency: Public market caps can change daily; private valuations may remain the latest announced figure until another transaction is disclosed.
As a result, saying that one of these companies is definitively “worth more” than another across both groups would imply a comparability the figures do not establish. A useful ranking should always label its inclusion criteria, valuation method and date.
What the valuations mean for each company
NVIDIA
At $5.51 trillion in the cited snapshot, NVIDIA leads the listed AI-related companies in that ranking. The figure is its market capitalization on 28 August 2026, not a fixed estimate of the company’s value.
Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft
These companies appear because the ranking covers large public businesses with significant AI exposure, not only AI-native firms. Their cited market caps were $4.59 trillion, $4.13 trillion and $3.75 trillion, respectively, on 28 August 2026.
Rank #4
Anthropic and OpenAI
Anthropic’s $965 billion post-money figure followed a $65 billion Series H announced in May 2026. OpenAI’s $852 billion post-money figure was announced in March 2026 alongside $122 billion in committed capital. Neither figure is a live stock-market quote.
How to read future AI-company rankings
Before comparing a new list with these figures, check four things:
- Whether it includes only AI-native companies or also diversified firms with AI exposure.
- Whether each number is a public market cap or a private financing valuation.
- The date of the market snapshot or funding announcement.
- Whether the valuation is pre-money or post-money, and whether a financing amount is committed capital rather than completed proceeds.
Capital.com describes market capitalization as share price multiplied by outstanding shares and notes that market caps fluctuate with share prices and exchange rates. Prompt20 likewise distinguishes public market capitalization from private latest-priced-transaction valuations in its valuation-method explanation.
