If you want another compact, top-down Zelda adventure after A Link to the Past, start with A Link Between Worlds or the Nintendo Switch remake of Link’s Awakening. For a bigger change, try Breath of the Wild—an exploration-led adventure rather than a close match in format.
Best close match: A Link Between Worlds
A Link Between Worlds is the clearest next choice if what you want is another 2D Zelda adventure. Nintendo’s series history describes Link leaping into a 2D world and confronting Yuga, who turns people into paintings. Nintendo also places the game in the timeline branch associated with A Link to the Past. That makes it a natural follow-up in broad format and series context, though it should not be taken as a promise of identical dungeons or difficulty.

Classic 2D alternatives on Nintendo Switch Online
If you are happy to play earlier releases rather than a modern remake, Nintendo Switch Online collections include several strong options. Ocarina of Time: move from 2D to 3D
Ocarina of Time is the pick if you want to see how Zelda changes when the adventure moves into 3D. Nintendo describes it as Link’s first 3D adventure. Breath of the Wild is for players looking for a broad exploration shift, not a like-for-like successor to A Link to the Past. Nintendo describes a vast, dangerous land to explore as Link seeks to regain his memories. The linked page is specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, whose listed presentation features—higher resolution, improved frame rates, and HDR—apply to that edition, not automatically to the original Switch version.
