“This one” could be any Genesis racer: the title doesn’t say which game you’ve just finished. Rather than claim one universal winner, here are follow-ups grouped by the kind of driving you want next. SEGA’s Mega Drive catalogs list these games as racing releases, though the catalog evidence does not establish a head-to-head ranking.
For a scenic drive with route choices: Out Run
SEGA’s official Mega Drive profile describes Out Run as a sports-car drive through European scenery, with four selectable music choices and branching courses that lead to five possible goals. Those details make it a natural pick if you want an arcade-style road trip rather than another circuit-racing option. SEGA lists its Mega Drive release date as August 9, 1991.

For racing on two wheels: Road Rash
If you’re ready to leave cars behind, Road Rash is the motorcycle-racing alternative in this shortlist. SEGA’s licensee catalog lists Road Rash as a Mega Drive race release. SEGA’s Genesis Mini manual index also includes a manual for Road Rash II; that confirms a place in the manual library, not current availability or a complete compatibility guarantee.

SEGA’s first-party Mega Drive catalog lists Super Monaco GP as a race title. It is a straightforward choice to investigate if you want another circuit-racing game. The catalog confirms its category and platform, but does not establish particular modes, handling characteristics, or difficulty, so those details shouldn’t be assumed from the listing alone.
#1 Best Overall
For another Out Run-branded release: OutRun 2019
SEGA’s licensee catalog lists OutRun 2019 as a Mega Drive race release. Its title makes it a relevant next game to consider after Out Run, but the catalog entry alone does not substantiate its mechanics or establish how it compares with the earlier game.
For a second Monaco GP choice: Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco GP II
SEGA’s first-party catalog also lists Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco GP II as a Mega Drive race title. It gives you another named circuit-racing option alongside Super Monaco GP; the catalog does not provide enough detail to compare their handling, modes, or difficulty.
Rank #2
- Super Monaco GP (スーパーモナコGP) is a Formula One racing simulation video game released by Sega for the Sega Genesis game console.
- Sequel to the 1979 arcade game Monaco GP!
- REVIEWs: Garnered at-the-time unprecedented 10–10–9–9 rating from Electronic Gaming Monthly's Review Crew and a 93% from Mean Machines!
- The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Super Monaco GP adds a World Championship mode. In the World Championship mode, the goal is to win a season of races, and then go on to defend the title
- The circuits are modeled on the ones used in the 1989 Formula One season, with background scenery similar to the real-world circuit venues!
How to choose—and what to check before buying
- Want scenery and branching routes? Start with Out Run.
- Want a motorcycle racer? Look at Road Rash.
- Want a circuit-racing title? Consider either Super Monaco GP entry.
- Want to follow the Out Run name? Consider OutRun 2019, while treating its catalog listing as confirmation of title and platform rather than a guide to its gameplay.
These are style-based suggestions, not a tested or comprehensive ranking. The official catalog evidence supports the games’ Mega Drive racing status, but not a broad comparison of control feel, multiplayer use, or overall quality. Virtua Racing is a separate possibility for readers interested in racing history: SEGA’s company timeline identifies it as the company’s first polygon racing game and describes its arcade release. That historical note does not establish details of the Genesis version or make it part of this shortlist.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore buying a cartridge, check the exact regional version, console compatibility, cartridge condition, and whether the seller’s listing is legitimate. Catalog entries do not confirm current stock, prices, authorized purchase options, or regional compatibility. The available catalog material is primarily Japanese Mega Drive documentation, so don’t assume that a listed title or version is identical to every North American Genesis release.
