Where the biggest preorder savings are
| Purchase route | Advertised saving | What you must do | What the advertised price means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple direct | Up to $1,200 with AT&T, or up to $1,000 with T-Mobile, shown during Apple’s purchase flow | Use carrier financing and meet that carrier’s eligibility rules, or use Apple Trade In | Carrier credits reduce the financed balance over time; a full-price purchase is a separate option |
| AT&T | Up to $1,200 | Eligible trade-in, qualifying plan and a 36-month device-payment agreement | $1,999.99 retail price less $1,200 in credits equals $799.99 before tax and other charges |
| Xfinity Mobile | Up to $1,000 | New Mobile Plus line, qualifying trade-in, device payment plan and Xfinity Internet | The maximum discount depends on meeting all service and trade-in conditions; taxes and fees are extra |
AT&T: the route behind the $799 headline
AT&T’s preorder page lists a $1,999.99 retail price and up to $1,200 in bill credits over 36 months. Its product information specifies an eligible trade-in valued at $230 or more, plus a qualifying wireless plan. The full-price tax is due when the phone is purchased, so the initial amount is not limited to the eventual $799.99 effective device cost.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Dividing the maximum credit by 36 months produces approximately $33.33 in monthly credits. You receive the full advertised benefit only if the trade-in, plan, account and installment agreement remain eligible for the entire credit period. Leaving the plan, paying off the device early or otherwise losing eligibility can stop future credits; check AT&T’s final terms before submitting the order.
Xfinity Mobile: up to $1,000 with more service requirements
Xfinity advertises up to $1,000 off iPhone Duo. The offer requires a new Mobile Plus line, a qualifying trade-in, an installment plan and active Xfinity Internet service. Taxes and fees are extra. Because the promotion is tied to both the wireless line and home-internet relationship, it is most relevant to customers who already have qualifying Xfinity Internet or intend to add it.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
The maximum discount is not an unconditional price reduction. Confirm the required trade-in model, line activation rules, credit schedule and what happens if Xfinity Internet service changes during the installment term.
Apple direct: more purchase flexibility, but read the carrier choice
Apple’s purchase page shows up to $1,200 in AT&T credits or $1,000 in T-Mobile credits, subject to each carrier’s financing and eligibility rules. Apple Trade In is also available. Buying from Apple lets you compare those choices in one checkout, while paying the full device price avoids a carrier bill-credit schedule. Confirm whether the selected financing option is carrier locked or otherwise restricted, and verify any activation requirements before paying.

Apple also presents AppleCare+ and AppleCare One as protection choices during purchase. Those plans are separate from the wireless promotion and do not increase the trade-in credit.
Is the $799 iPhone Duo price really upfront?
No. The figure is an effective price calculated from AT&T’s stated $1,999.99 retail price minus the maximum $1,200 in bill credits. It excludes tax on the full retail amount and any plan, activation, upgrade, trade-in or other fees. The credits are distributed across 36 months rather than paid to you at checkout.

- Advertised retail price: $1,999.99 on AT&T’s preorder page.
- Maximum promotional credits: $1,200 over 36 months.
- Effective device cost: $799.99 before tax and additional charges, if every condition remains satisfied.
- Upfront tax: calculated on the full retail price where the carrier requires it, not on $799.99.
What you are buying for the money
Apple describes iPhone Duo as a foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the inner screen is 50 percent larger than the display on iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the outer screen provides 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro screen area.
The phone uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a dual-battery architecture and iOS 27 features adapted for different orientations. These hardware details matter when deciding whether a 36-month promotion is worth accepting: the trade-in commitment ties the savings to a device that you may otherwise want to replace before the credits end.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
How to choose the best deal
- Start with your current carrier. An existing AT&T customer with an eligible trade-in may avoid the disruption of switching, while an Xfinity customer must still satisfy the Mobile Plus and Internet requirements.
- Check the trade-in value and condition. AT&T’s published qualification calls for a trade-in valued at $230 or more. Carrier tools can change the value after an inspection.
- Calculate the cash due today. Add the tax on the full device price, down payment, activation or upgrade charges and any plan changes to the installment amount.
- Read the credit schedule. Record the number of months, monthly credit and conditions that can end the credits.
- Compare storage before applying the promotion. The advertised effective price is based on the eligible configuration and may not represent the higher cost of 512GB, 1TB or 2TB models.
- Review protection separately. Compare AppleCare+ or AppleCare One with any carrier protection before adding coverage.
- Save the final checkout terms. Promotions can change with inventory, region, trade-in status and plan eligibility, so keep the order summary showing the device price, credits and service obligations.
Important trade-offs before locking in a 36-month credit
- Early upgrades can be expensive: the remaining credits may disappear if you leave the qualifying arrangement before all 36 months are complete.
- Switching carriers can erase the discount: bill credits generally continue only while the required account and plan remain active and eligible.
- Trade-in approval is conditional: a damaged, missing or mismatched device can reduce the value or disqualify the promotion after inspection.
- Taxes and fees are separate: neither the AT&T nor Xfinity headline saving means those charges are waived.
- Availability may affect delivery: preorder timing can influence when a specific storage tier ships, even though general availability is set for October 23.
Bottom line for preorder shoppers
AT&T offers the lowest stated effective device cost: about $799.99 before tax after the maximum $1,200 credit. That outcome requires an eligible trade-in, a qualifying plan and 36 months of continued eligibility. Xfinity’s maximum $1,000 discount is smaller and adds Mobile Plus and Xfinity Internet requirements. Apple direct is the practical comparison point if you want to review AT&T or T-Mobile financing alongside Apple Trade In or avoid committing to a carrier credit schedule. Recheck the final terms and inventory at checkout because all three promotions are subject to carrier rules and availability.
