For a room with strong daylight and seats spread across a sofa, start with the Samsung QN90F. It is the clearest match because Samsung specifies both Glare-Free anti-reflection and Wide Viewing Angle. Pick the TCL QM8K instead when maximum HDR brightness and value come first, the LG G5 when premium wide-seat picture quality justifies OLED pricing, or the Sony X90L when Sony’s processing, motion handling and upscaling matter more than maximum glare control.

The short list

These televisions solve different parts of the Hisense U7 problem. Reflection control keeps windows and lamps from appearing as bright patches; peak brightness helps highlights remain visible around those reflections; viewing-angle performance preserves color and contrast for people sitting away from the centerline. No single specification guarantees all three.

Model Bright-room strength Wide-seat evidence Measured or stated performance Main qualification
Samsung QN90F Samsung lists Glare-Free technology; its 2025 Neo QLED material also cites Glare-Free and Quantum Matrix Mini LEDs. Samsung lists Wide Viewing Angle. 2,109 nits HDR brightness at a 10% window and 9.5 ms input lag in Tom’s Guide’s 2025 testing. Check whether the matte treatment’s look suits your preference for blacks and saturation.
TCL QM8K TechRadar found the anti-reflection screen effective beneath bright overhead lights. A manufacturer wide-angle feature comparable to Samsung’s was not established. 3,332 nits HDR brightness at a 10% window in Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison. Very high brightness does not by itself prove strong off-axis contrast.
LG G5 OLED TechRadar places the G5 among 2025 televisions with effective anti-reflective coatings. Premium OLED picture consistency is the reason to consider it for broad seating. No directly comparable brightness figure was established in the cited material. Price, sustained full-screen brightness and static-content habits need checking.
Sony X90L Processing and motion can make daytime television easier to follow, but maximum glare suppression is not its defining advantage. Sony specifies X-Wide Angle on the cited 85-inch page only. RTINGS’ comparison updated September 9, 2026 places the Hisense U7N slightly ahead overall, but close to the X90L/X90CL. Panel behavior can vary by size; verify the exact regional SKU.

Prices, stock and available sizes change by country and suffix. Treat every recommendation as a model-and-size decision, not a blanket endorsement of an entire product family.

Why brightness and viewing angle are separate problems

Reflection control is not the same as peak brightness

A bright television can produce intense HDR highlights while still showing a sharp window reflection across dark scenes. Screen treatment determines how much ambient light is scattered or mirrored toward the viewer. Samsung calls its treatment “Glare-Free technology” and says it “ensures the view remains clear and vibrant.” Hisense describes the U7 Series’ “Anti-Reflection Screen” as a way to preserve clarity in sunny rooms. Those claims address reflections; they do not establish identical black levels, color, or off-axis behavior.

What a 10% HDR number does and does not tell you

The quoted brightness results use a 10% test window: a small bright rectangle surrounded by darker image content. They are useful for comparing highlight capability under a defined method, but they are not a promise of full-screen brightness during a hockey game, a web page or a mostly white sports broadcast. Picture mode, calibration, measurement equipment and window size all change the result. Sustained brightness and reflection handling should be checked separately.

Why wide sofas expose panel differences

Viewing-angle performance is about retaining color, gamma and contrast as you move away from the center. A specification such as “Wide Viewing Angle” is useful evidence, but it does not tell you the exact angle at which performance falls off. Size can matter too: Sony’s cited X-Wide Angle specification is tied to an 85-inch X90L page, so it should not automatically be applied to every X90L size.

Samsung QN90F: the most direct match for a bright, wide room

Why it leads this list

Samsung explicitly lists both Glare-Free and Wide Viewing Angle for the QN90F. That combination maps directly to the two complaints that send people away from a Hisense U7: reflections from windows or lamps and washed-out color for seats at the side. Samsung’s 2025 Neo QLED launch material attributes the range to Quantum Matrix Mini LEDs and Glare-Free technology, giving the set a clear hardware-and-screen-treatment rationale rather than relying on brightness alone.

What independent testing adds

Tom’s Guide measured 2,109 nits of HDR brightness at a 10% window in its 2025 comparison and recorded 9.5 ms input lag. The brightness is high enough for punchy HDR in daylight, while the latency figure makes the QN90F a credible choice for console or PC play. The test result is a laboratory-style snapshot, not a guaranteed result for every picture mode or regional version.

Trade-offs to check in person

  • A matte or glare-reducing surface can look different from a glossy screen. Some viewers prefer the cleaner reflection behavior; others prefer the perceived contrast and saturation of a glossy finish.
  • “Wide Viewing Angle” is a useful product feature, not a guarantee that a far-corner seat looks identical to the center seat.
  • Confirm the exact screen size, regional suffix and current price before ordering; availability changes.

Best fit

Choose the QN90F when a window, floor lamp or open-plan layout is unavoidable and several people watch from different positions. It is the safest first audition because its two relevant features are explicitly documented by the manufacturer.

TCL QM8K: the brightness-and-value alternative

Why it can look spectacular in daylight

Tom’s Guide measured 3,332 nits of HDR brightness at a 10% window for the QM8K in its 2025 comparison. That is substantially higher than the 2,109-nit QN90F result in the same cited comparison, although the figures still depend on test method and picture settings. TechRadar also found the QM8K’s anti-reflection screen effective under bright overhead lights.

Where the evidence is conditional

The QM8K’s strong highlight output should not be used as a proxy for wide viewing angles. The cited material does not establish a manufacturer wide-angle feature equivalent to Samsung’s, so inspect the set from your actual side seats. Watch a saturated film scene and a sports broadcast from the farthest position, not only a bright store demo.

Best fit

The QM8K is the value-oriented choice for a room where HDR impact matters most and viewers are usually near the center. It becomes a less certain recommendation when a very wide sofa is the primary requirement. Compare reflection behavior at the time of day you normally watch, because overhead-light performance may not match direct sunlight through a window.

LG G5 OLED: the premium wide-seating option

Why consider it

TechRadar includes the LG G5 among 2025 televisions with effective anti-reflective coatings and describes premium OLED-based sets as strong bright-room options. The appeal is consistent picture quality across a broad seating area and high-end image rendering, rather than a claim that OLED automatically wins every daylight measurement.

Bright-room cautions

  • Ask the retailer or manufacturer for sustained full-screen brightness, not only a small-window peak, if your room is bright during long sports or news sessions.
  • Reflections still depend on the position and intensity of windows and lamps. An anti-reflective coating reduces distractions; it cannot remove a light source that sits directly opposite the screen.
  • OLED ownership requires sensible static-content habits. If the television will display a fixed news ticker, desktop interface or channel logo for many hours every day, discuss that usage with the seller and follow the panel-care guidance supplied with the set.

Best fit

Choose the G5 when broad seating and premium picture quality matter more than the lowest price or the highest measured LCD-style peak. It is a specialist upgrade, not the universal answer for every sunny room.

Sony X90L: choose processing and motion over maximum glare suppression

What makes it credible

The X90L is a sensible alternative for viewers who prioritize Sony’s processing, motion handling and upscaling ecosystem. RTINGS’ comparison, updated September 9, 2026, puts the Hisense U7N slightly ahead overall but describes the gap to the Sony X90L/X90CL as close. That makes the Sony a legitimate preference-based alternative rather than a guaranteed technical upgrade.

The size-specific viewing-angle issue

Sony’s cited specification page lists X-Wide Angle for the 85-inch X90L. Because panel arrangements can differ by size and region, verify the precise 55-, 65-, 75- or 85-inch listing you intend to buy. Do not assume the 85-inch specification applies to every X90L.

Best fit

Pick the X90L when broadcast cleanup, motion and low-quality-stream handling are more important than the strongest possible reflection treatment. It suits a room with some daylight where seats are spread out, provided the specific size’s panel and viewing-angle specification check out.

How the important measurements compare

The table separates established figures from items that were not stated in the cited material. “Not stated” means you should obtain a size-specific specification or independent test rather than infer a result.

Choose according to your room and habits

If windows are opposite the screen

Start with the QN90F because its Glare-Free feature is explicitly designed for this problem. The QM8K is worth comparing if its stronger small-window HDR output appeals to you, but inspect reflections at the time you watch. Curtains, blinds or a slight change in screen orientation can improve any model more than a small specification difference.

If the sofa is exceptionally wide

Prioritize documented angle behavior over peak-nit headlines. The QN90F has the clearest manufacturer language. The G5 is the premium option when OLED pricing and static-content considerations are acceptable. With the X90L, verify the exact size because the cited X-Wide Angle evidence is for 85 inches. Treat the QM8K as conditional until you have viewed it from the side.

If HDR impact and value dominate

The QM8K is the logical first comparison because its cited 3,332-nit result exceeds the QN90F’s result under the same 10% test-window context. Keep the distinction between highlight brightness and reflection visibility in mind.

If you watch sports, broadcasts or low-quality streams

The X90L deserves priority when Sony’s processing and motion handling are the features you notice most. A television that cleans up compression and handles camera pans well can be more satisfying than one that wins a peak-brightness test.

Buying and setup checklist

  1. Identify the exact SKU. Record the country, screen size and suffix. Do not transfer an 85-inch specification to another size without confirmation.
  2. Measure the light. Note which windows, lamps and overhead fixtures are visible from the seating area and at what time you normally watch.
  3. Separate your priorities. Rank reflection suppression, off-axis consistency, HDR highlights, motion, gaming latency and price instead of treating “bright” as one number.
  4. Inspect from real seats. View a dark movie scene, a bright sports image and skin tones from the center and both sofa edges. Look for mirror-like reflections, lifted blacks and color shifts.
  5. Verify test conditions. When a review quotes nits, check window size, picture mode, measurement date and whether the result is peak or sustained.
  6. Check your sources and inputs. Confirm the HDMI features, HDR formats and gaming modes for the exact regional model; these details were not established for every set here.
  7. Plan placement. Avoid putting the screen directly opposite the brightest window, and leave enough adjustment room to angle it away from a direct light source.
  8. Recheck price and returns. Regional stock and promotions change. A return window is valuable if glare or side-seat performance looks different at home.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Buying the highest nit number

Peak HDR brightness is a highlight test, not a reflection score or a sustained full-screen result. Use it alongside the screen treatment and your room’s light pattern.

Assuming every size uses the same panel

The X90L’s documented X-Wide Angle feature is explicitly tied to an 85-inch page. Size-specific verification is also prudent for any model where viewing angle is central to the purchase.

Confusing anti-reflection with a reflection-free image

Coatings reduce or diffuse reflections; they cannot defeat a bright source aimed directly at the panel. Placement and window control remain part of the solution.

Ignoring static-content exposure on OLED

The G5 can be an excellent wide-seat television, but a household that leaves fixed interfaces or logos on screen for long periods should consider that usage before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using a review result as a universal guarantee

The cited measurements are tied to particular tests and dates: Tom’s Guide’s 2025 figures, Tom’s Guide’s 2026 U7SG review and RTINGS’ September 9, 2026 comparison. Firmware, regional versions and picture settings can change what you see.

Bottom line

The Samsung QN90F is the most defensible all-round replacement for a Hisense U7 in a bright room with a wide sofa because its Glare-Free and Wide Viewing Angle features directly address both problems. Choose the TCL QM8K for the strongest cited HDR peak and value, the LG G5 for premium wide-seat OLED performance with careful static-content planning, or the Sony X90L for processing and motion when glare suppression is not the overriding concern. Confirm the exact size, region, current price and in-home reflection behavior before buying.
