The official product description says the game includes more than 250 base kits (Bandai Namco Entertainment, 2024). “Base kits” is not the same as 250 finished machines you can use without alteration; the important beginner takeaway is the breadth of parts available for mixing and matching. You can also customize paint, weathering and decals, then arrange your creations in dioramas. Those tools make the game suitable for players who enjoy visual projects as much as combat.
Bandai Namco’s own invitation is direct: “Create your own ultimate Gunpla in the newest Gundam Breaker game!” That emphasis explains why this is a safer first recommendation than a lore-heavy or competition-focused title for many newcomers.
What the first hours are likely to feel like
The loop is intentionally understandable even if you have never played another Gundam title. A mission supplies battles and potential parts. Parts you obtain broaden your construction options. You test the result in another battle, notice what works, and adjust the model. The game supports two weapons, so a beginner is not limited to a single attack pattern while learning what kind of machine feels comfortable.
Do not treat the large parts count as a demand to optimize immediately. Start with a complete, functional build, play several missions, and change one or two components at a time. Who should choose it—and who should not
- Choose it if assembling a personal Gunpla, trying unusual combinations and decorating a display scene sound more appealing than following a fixed roster.
- Choose it if you want a solo entry point and the option to add co-op later.
- Consider another game first if you want a tightly directed story about established Gundam events or a competitive match with team objectives.

2. SD Gundam Battle Alliance: the best action-RPG introduction

SD Gundam Battle Alliance is the better first choice when you want recognizable Gundam history turned into missions rather than an open-ended construction workshop. Bandai Namco describes it as a multiplayer Gundam action RPG that can be played solo or with friends. Its premise uses “Breaks” to distort famous Gundam moments, giving the campaign a reason to revisit familiar scenes while allowing events to unfold differently.
You acquire and develop mobile suits through missions, which creates a conventional progression loop: select an operation, fight through it, improve your available machines and tackle the next challenge. That fixed-roster approach is easier to understand than a large parts workshop if your priority is seeing mobile suits in action and learning how the campaign frames the franchise.

A team can include you plus two partners. You may play alone or bring friends, but the documented structure is still a three-member group rather than an unlimited party. That distinction matters when planning a session: two friends fill the stated team, while a larger group would need to rotate players or use another game.
The game’s co-op design also gives a newcomer a straightforward social route. You can learn missions and mobile-suit development solo, then repeat or continue them with friends. Because the campaign supplies the context and the roster, you do not need to invent a personal Gunpla identity before you can start making progress.

The official platform list covers Steam/Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. Who should choose it—and who should not
- Choose it if you want mission-based action, a recognizable Gundam context and a progression system built around acquiring and developing mobile suits.
- Choose it if your friends play on Xbox, Switch or a PlayStation generation covered by the official platform list.
- Choose another game first if painting, decals, weathering and diorama creation are the main reason you are interested in Gunpla.

3. Gundam Evolution: only if you already want a team shooter
What makes it different
Gundam Evolution belongs in a separate category. The official Bandai Namco Europe description presents playable mobile suits with distinct weapons and abilities, and it emphasizes learning each mode’s win conditions and coordinating strategy. In practice, that means the central question is not “Which parts should I build?” or “Which mission comes next?” It is “What does my team need to do to win this objective, and how does my chosen suit contribute?”
That format can be an excellent first Gundam game for someone who already enjoys competitive team shooters. It is a poor default recommendation for a player seeking a relaxed solo introduction, a campaign or a model-building sandbox.
Check availability before you commit
Live-service games can change regional service, storefront listings and access conditions. The available information does not establish a permanent current status for every country or platform. Before installing or spending money, confirm all of the following in your local, current listing:
- Whether the service is available in your region.
- Whether your platform and operating system are supported now.
- Whether the required online service or account is active.
- Whether the edition you are viewing includes the content you expect.
- Whether your friends can join from their own platforms and regions.
Do not select Gundam Evolution simply because it is free or familiar from a video clip; select it when the team-shooter format itself is what you want. Its fit depends on current service conditions as well as personal taste.

Start with Gundam Breaker 4 if you want to learn through making things. Its build loop does not require you to identify every mobile suit before you can enjoy a mission. Start with SD Gundam Battle Alliance if you prefer the game to supply historical context through its campaign structure. “I want competitive matches, not a campaign.”
Look at Gundam Evolution only after confirming current local availability. Its distinct weapons, abilities and objective-based team play are designed for the hero-shooter audience. Neither of the two action recommendations is a substitute for that competitive format.

Treating “more than 250 base kits” as a requirement to collect everything
