For an immediate upgrade, the strongest free-agent picks in FC 27 Career Mode are Memphis Depay (forward), Giorgian De Arrascaeta (creator), David Alaba (centre-back) and Luiz Henrique (pace on the wing). For development, look at Angel Yondjo Matah and Toni Fruk. These come from Red Bull’s guide by Chris Jecks, published 22 September 2026. They are source-reported ratings, not results from our own saves, so check them against your own game.
What to know before you trust a free-agent list
Red Bull says free agents in the first summer window are the same in every playthrough. After the first season they vary by save. Its ranking weighs current overall rating, potential and wage-to-ability ratio (Red Bull).

Ratings also move. EA says Career Mode OVR can rise or fall with form, confidence, fitness, injuries, playing time and competition for places. Free agents who stay unsigned for a long time eventually retire (EA Career Deep Dive). On 29 September 2026 EA said it was monitoring stamina and Dynamic OVR. It was also working on unusually high starting OVRs for generated players, transfer requests and playtime, and transfer and loan offers (EA launch update). Treat every number below as a dated snapshot.
A free agent has no transfer fee, but you still negotiate wages and a signing-on bonus (FAFIFA). The signing is cheap, not free.

How to choose
- Role fit. Start with the position you actually lack, not the highest-rated name.
- Current OVR. If you need results now, weight this above potential.
- Age and potential. Match them to how many seasons you plan to play. Veterans such as Alaba and Rodríguez are short-term answers whatever their potential says.
- Wage and signing bonus. Check these against your budget before you negotiate.
By type of save
- Lower-league rebuild: an affordable prospect who will get minutes, such as Yondjo Matah.
- Top-flight contender: De Arrascaeta, Depay or Alaba for immediate quality.
- Later seasons: use your own scouting and the free-agent list in your save. Availability differs between saves, and unsigned players can retire.
How this compares with database lists
FAFIFA’s database, built on EA data dated 20 August 2026, listed 238 free agents with an average rating of 68.6 and average age of 28.7. It counted 28 aged 23 or younger. Its top three were Mohamed Salah (87), De Arrascaeta (83) and Fabinho (82). It updates roughly weekly with EA squad updates, so it is not a live October roster (FAFIFA). If a name in your save is missing or rated differently, a squad update or your save’s own timeline is the likely reason.
