They require a refundable cash deposit that commonly determines the credit limit, so access may be easier to obtain—but cash is tied up, approval is not guaranteed, and the deposit does not make the card cost-free. The strongest broad-availability candidate in current comparisons is the Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Mastercard Secured. Valley Bank and FNBO offer other secured options, subject to location, relationship, and application availability.
What to expect when applying with bad credit
There is no universal minimum credit score for a business card, and a secured card is not an approval guarantee. Issuers can consider credit history alongside income, existing debt, business finances, and their own eligibility rules. A secured card reduces some issuer risk by holding cash collateral; the credit line is commonly tied to that deposit. That makes secured cards a practical starting point when an unsecured card is out of reach, but it also means using money that could otherwise support the business.

Before applying, check the minimum deposit, whether it is refundable and when, the credit line it supports, annual fee, APR, credit bureau reporting, personal guarantee, and whether the issuer serves your location. Exact product terms and availability can change; confirm them in the issuer’s current application disclosures.
Secured business cards to compare in 2026
| Card | Deposit and credit line | Reported fees, APR, and rewards | Access and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Mastercard Secured | NerdWallet and Nav report a $1,000 minimum deposit and a credit line equal to the deposit. | Nav reports no annual fee. NerdWallet reports a 26.74% APR; check the issuer’s current disclosures for the applicable rate and terms. | Nav describes it as broadly available nationally. NerdWallet says there is no prequalification and that approval is subject to credit approval. |
| Valley Bank Visa Secured Business Credit Card | NerdWallet reports a deposit equal to 110% of the desired credit limit, up to $25,000. | NerdWallet reports no annual fee, 1% unlimited cash back, a six-month introductory purchase APR period, then a 14.45%–25.75% APR. Confirm current offer details with Valley. | NerdWallet says applications must be made in person; Valley branches are in Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, and New York. Nav says a Valley relationship is required or involved. |
| FNBO Business Edition Secured Mastercard | Nav reports a $2,000–$10,000 deposit; it does not state the resulting credit line in the comparison. | Nav reports a $39 annual fee and no rewards. APR is not stated in Nav’s comparison. | Nav lists it as nationally available, but confirm application availability and current terms with FNBO. |
The figures above come from comparison sources, not a guarantee of the terms you will receive. The Bank of America card is a reasonable first comparison if you can set aside at least $1,000; Valley may suit an eligible business owner near a branch who values its reported cash back; FNBO is another deposit-backed option, though its reported fee and lack of rewards are worth weighing. Compare the amount of cash tied up against the limit and the cost of carrying a balance.

How secured cards may help establish business credit
A deposit secures the account; it does not itself build a credit profile. Chase’s educational guidance explains that secured cards typically use cash or savings collateral, with a limit commonly equal to that collateral. Chase also says responsible use may help build a business credit score and could help when applying for a future loan, line of credit, or unsecured card. Whether a particular account reports to business credit bureaus—and whether it reports to personal bureaus—depends on the issuer. Check the card’s terms rather than assuming either outcome.
If approved, keep purchases modest, pay on time, and avoid relying on the card for expenses you cannot repay. Payment behavior and reporting determine whether the account contributes to a credit record; opening an account does not guarantee a score increase.

Personal guarantees and credit checks still matter
A business card does not automatically insulate your personal credit or assets. Issuers may check personal credit and require a personal guarantee, with practices varying by product. The Federal Reserve Banks’ 2026 Small Business Credit Survey found that 59% of debtholders among surveyed employer firms had secured debt with a personal guarantee. That figure covers debt broadly; it is not the share of business credit cards requiring one.
The same survey reported that, among firms regularly using a credit card (N=4,016), 58% used only a business credit card, 8% only a personal credit card, and 34% used both. These are survey findings about employer firms, not a recommendation that a business owner should use personal credit for business spending.

Corporate cards for established businesses
Products such as Ramp and Brex may avoid standard personal-credit checks or personal guarantees, but they are not like-for-like substitutes for a secured revolving card. They generally target incorporated businesses with established revenue and healthy cash balances, and typically do not offer revolving credit. They may not be realistic for a new, small, or cash-constrained business.
A fair-credit card is not a bad-credit approval
Capital One describes Spark Classic as a fair-credit option, making it a possible boundary case for someone whose credit is improving—not a dependable solution for bad credit. Capital One says approval depends on factors beyond the score, including income, existing debt, and the overall financial profile. Do not treat the card’s category as a promise of approval.

How to choose and apply
- Set a deposit ceiling. Decide how much business cash you can leave tied up without putting payroll, inventory, or bills at risk. Compare the deposit with the credit line it supports.
- Match the application to your circumstances. Check whether the issuer takes applications in your state, requires an in-person visit or existing banking relationship, and offers prequalification. If no prequalification is available, applying may involve a credit inquiry; review the application disclosures.
- Read the complete pricing and guarantee terms. Check annual fees, introductory and ongoing APRs, rewards conditions, collateral handling, late-payment consequences, personal credit checks, and any personal guarantee before submitting an application.
- Confirm credit reporting. Ask the issuer which business and consumer bureaus receive account activity. If building business credit is a goal, reporting is material; do not infer it from the card being labeled “business.”
- Apply only when the terms fit. Submit the application through the issuer’s official channel, provide accurate business and personal information, and wait for an approval decision. A secured deposit does not eliminate underwriting or guarantee acceptance.
