The Best ARC Raiders Settings for Aiming and Using the Grapple Hook

There is no developer-approved sensitivity preset that is objectively best in ARC Raiders. The reliable approach is to start from the current in-game defaults, choose the correct control section for your input device, change one setting at a time, and keep only changes that make both quick turns and target tracking consistent.

The Grappling Hook is a traversal item, not a special aiming mode. Your mouse or controller look and zoom settings affect camera control while using it, but the official material does not prescribe a grapple-specific sensitivity or button sequence. Confirm the live prompt and binding in your game after every major patch.

What the aiming settings actually control

ARC Raiders separates mouse-and-keyboard controls from controller controls. Do not copy a sensitivity number from one input method to the other: the scales and available options are different. The community-maintained settings reference lists separate PC fields for horizontal sensitivity, vertical sensitivity and zoom sensitivity, alongside a distinct controller section. Because that page can change independently of the game, use it as a map of possible fields and verify the labels in your current build: ARC Raiders settings reference.

Setting area What it changes Who should adjust it What to watch for
Horizontal sensitivity How quickly the view turns left and right during normal look input. Mouse and keyboard players, and controller players if the current menu exposes an equivalent stick option. Whether you can turn toward a new threat without overshooting it.
Vertical sensitivity How quickly the view moves up and down. Players whose horizontal and vertical movement feel mismatched. Recoil control, climbing your view to a higher target, and avoiding a sluggish or overly twitchy vertical response.
Zoom sensitivity Look speed while aiming through a weapon’s zoom or ADS view. Players who can turn comfortably from the hip but lose control when zoomed in. Whether a small correction tracks a moving target without repeatedly passing it.
Controller aim controls Stick-based look and aim behavior presented in the controller menu rather than the PC mouse scale. Controller users only. Dead-zone, acceleration or response options if they are present in your current version; labels and availability may change.

These are adjustable controls, not evidence that one value works for everyone. A setting that helps a player make a fast 180-degree turn can make fine tracking harder, while a slower setting can improve small corrections but feel restrictive when danger comes from the side.

Set a dependable mouse-and-keyboard baseline

GameSpot’s PC guide, published October 30, 2025, offers third-party keybind and mouse advice, but it predates later patches and is not a developer-tested best preset. Treat it as an example of possible PC choices, not as a value you must copy: GameSpot’s PC settings guide.

  1. Open the current mouse-and-keyboard controls. Use the game’s Settings menu, select the PC input section, and record the existing values before changing anything. Menu names can move after an update, so follow the labels shown by your build rather than an older screenshot.
  2. Keep the starting values together. Begin with the current defaults or your saved profile. Do not simultaneously change horizontal, vertical, zoom, keybinds and field-of-view-related options; otherwise you will not know which change helped.
  3. Test normal look first. In a safe, repeatable area, turn toward fixed landmarks and then follow a moving target. If you routinely stop short, increase horizontal sensitivity by one small increment. If you pass the target, reduce it by one increment.
  4. Check vertical movement separately. Track a target that changes elevation and make a few controlled up-and-down corrections. Adjust vertical sensitivity only when the vertical response is consistently too slow or too fast compared with your horizontal response.
  5. Evaluate zoom sensitivity after hip-fire look feels stable. Aim at a distant target, make short left-right corrections, and then follow movement across your sight picture. If zoomed movement feels jerky, lower it one step; if it cannot keep up with a target, raise it one step.
  6. Play a normal encounter before saving. A setting that feels good while standing still may fail during movement, looting and sudden direction changes. Keep a change only if it remains controllable in both quick-turn and tracking situations.

This process intentionally avoids declaring a universal number. It also makes it easy to undo a change: return to the recorded value, test again, and move to the next control only after the first one is settled.

Choose mouse settings by the job you need to perform

Priority Useful direction for adjustment Trade-off to check
Quicker turning when threats appear behind you Raise normal horizontal sensitivity in small steps. Confirm that close-range tracking does not become an overcorrection exercise.
Fine tracking on a moving target Lower normal or zoom sensitivity in small steps. Make sure you can still turn far enough during a surprise flank.
Different feel between horizontal and vertical movement Adjust the separate vertical control rather than changing both axes. Test elevation changes and recoil control, not only a flat target.
Comfort during aimed fire Change zoom sensitivity without disturbing normal look. Recheck both a close target and a distant target; zoom can expose overshooting that is invisible from the hip.

There is no evidence in the cited sources that a particular mouse, polling rate or peripheral guarantees better accuracy. A mouse with comfortable shape and accessible sensitivity controls may reduce ergonomic strain, but that is a comfort consideration rather than a proven performance result.

Controller settings: use the controller scale, not a mouse translation

Controller players should make changes in the controller section and judge them with the stick’s travel and response in mind. A mouse sensitivity number cannot be translated reliably into a controller value because the input mechanism is different. The settings reference lists controller options separately from PC controls: controller and PC settings reference.

  1. Save or photograph the original controller values. This gives you a known recovery point if a change makes the camera feel worse.
  2. Test a full stick turn and a small stick correction. Use one repeatable landmark for a broad turn and another for fine tracking. If the broad turn is too slow, raise the relevant look setting one step. If the small correction skips past the target, lower it one step.
  3. Separate normal look from aimed or zoomed behavior when the menu allows it. Keep normal exploration comfortable first, then tune the aimed response. Do not alter every controller option at once.
  4. Check any response, acceleration or dead-zone controls shown by your version. These labels are version-sensitive. Change only one, test the same turn-and-track drill, and revert it if the center of the stick feels delayed or the view moves when you are not intentionally aiming.
  5. Repeat the test while moving. Controller aim can feel acceptable while stationary and become difficult when strafing. Keep the profile that remains predictable during movement rather than the one that produces the fastest stationary turn.

Because the current menu can differ after patches, this guide does not assign fixed controller numbers. The correct value is the one that lets you make repeatable corrections without losing the ability to turn toward a new threat.

Hold ADS or toggle ADS?

Embark’s Cold Snap patch notes dated December 16, 2025 confirm that a toggle Aim Down Sights option was added: official Cold Snap patch notes. Check the current menu and your chosen binding, since later updates may alter wording or placement.

Mode When it may feel better What it does not prove
Hold ADS You want aiming to end as soon as you release the button and prefer a direct, temporary action. It is not established as more accurate than toggle.
Toggle ADS You find it more comfortable to press once to aim and press again to leave ADS, or sustained holding causes hand fatigue. It is not established as less accurate than hold.

Treat this choice as comfort and accessibility, then run the same tracking drill in either mode. If toggle leaves you accidentally zoomed while moving or looting, switch back; if holding causes fatigue or makes you release ADS at the wrong time, test toggle. The sources do not identify a universally superior option.

What the Grappling Hook does

Embark’s Frozen Trail content preview describes the Grappling Hook’s traversal role: “That’s where the Grapple Hook comes in, letting you climb hard to reach spots, abseil off buildings, and swing over large gaps.” Read the full preview for the surrounding item context: Frozen Trail content preview.

Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse - White | 12,000 DPI, Lightweight, 6 Programmable Buttons, 250h Battery, On-Board Memory, Compatible with PC and Mac
  • Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
  • Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
  • Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
  • Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
  • Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver

That description matters for settings because the hook is not documented as a weapon-aim mode. Your normal look controls determine how the camera moves while you line up or follow a traversal path, but the reviewed official sources provide no grapple-specific sensitivity, zoom multiplier or definitive input sequence. Do not invent a special “grapple sensitivity” value. Instead:

  • Open the current Controls menu and identify the Grappling Hook prompt for your platform.
  • Confirm whether the prompt uses a dedicated gadget binding, an equipment slot or a contextual interaction in your current build.
  • Practice the prompt in a low-risk location before relying on it near a ledge, enemy or large gap.
  • Keep your normal look settings unchanged while learning the hook, unless the same settings also cause problems with ordinary weapon aiming.
  • Recheck the on-screen prompt after updates; button assignments and labels can change.

Do not confuse the Grappling Hook with the Snap Hook

The October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail 2.0 update introduced the Grappling Hook and separately changed the pre-existing Snap Hook. Embark said the purpose was to distinguish the Snap Hook as a burst-mobility gadget from the new Grappling Hook. The following figures apply to the Snap Hook only, not to the Grappling Hook:

Snap Hook property Before the October 8, 2026 update After the update
Range 20 m 18 m
Durability consumed per use 2% 4%
Power cost 50 60

Those balance numbers are published in Embark’s update announcement: Frozen Trail 2.0 update. They do not describe the Grappling Hook’s range, durability or power cost, and they should not be used to infer how the new item behaves.

A repeatable practice routine for aim and traversal

Use the same short routine whenever you change a setting. The aim is consistency, not a personal benchmark or a claim that one profile wins every situation.

  1. Reset the scene. Start from the same safe location and face the same landmark.
  2. Run a broad-turn check. Turn toward a second landmark, stop, and note whether you routinely stop short or overshoot.
  3. Run a tracking check. Follow a moving target or predictable moving object with small corrections for several seconds.
  4. Run a zoom check. Repeat the tracking exercise while aimed down sights, using the zoom sensitivity rather than changing normal look.
  5. Run a movement check. Strafe, change direction and repeat the tracking exercise. A setting that works only while stationary is not a dependable baseline.
  6. Test the hook prompt separately. Perform a simple climb, descent or swing where failure is low-cost, and verify the current control prompt before attempting a risky traversal.
  7. Change one variable. Adjust one control by one small increment, repeat all relevant checks, and keep a written note of the result.

Do not describe these drills as a controlled performance test. They are a practical way to make your own settings changes comparable from one attempt to the next.

Troubleshoot common aiming problems

“I can turn quickly but cannot stay on a target.”

Lower the control that governs the phase where the problem occurs. If the issue appears only while zoomed, change zoom sensitivity rather than normal horizontal sensitivity. Re-run the tracking check before changing another option.

“Tracking is steady, but I cannot react to a flank.”

Raise normal horizontal sensitivity by one small step and test the broad-turn check again. If zoomed aim was already comfortable, leave zoom sensitivity alone.

“Vertical corrections feel wrong while horizontal movement feels fine.”

Use the separate vertical control if your menu provides it. Test an elevated target and a low target; do not assume a horizontal change will solve a vertical mismatch.

“The hook feels inconsistent.”

First verify the current Grappling Hook prompt and binding. Make sure you are not applying Snap Hook statistics or an older control layout to the new item. Practice the traversal action in a safe location, then check whether the problem is the prompt, timing or camera movement rather than sensitivity.

“An update changed the feel.”

Record the new menu labels and values, then restore your last known profile one setting at a time. Recheck the ADS mode and the hook binding, because official notes and community references can describe different versions of the menu.

How to keep the profile stable after patches

  • Save a text note or screenshot of your mouse, controller, zoom and ADS choices.
  • Write down which input device the profile uses; do not combine mouse and controller values.
  • After a major update, confirm the menu labels before assuming a setting was removed or renamed.
  • Re-test broad turning, target tracking, zoomed tracking and the Grappling Hook prompt before entering a high-risk encounter.
  • Use current official announcements for item behavior. The October 8, 2026 update is newer than the December 16, 2025 ADS notes, while the October 30, 2025 third-party PC guide may predate both.

The practical answer to “best ARC Raiders settings” is therefore a disciplined baseline: use the correct input section, tune normal and zoomed aim separately, choose hold or toggle ADS for comfort, and learn the Grappling Hook from its current in-game prompt. Keep the profile only when it remains predictable during turning, tracking, movement and traversal.
