For most home offices, the Epson EcoTank ET-3850 is the best replacement for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8125. Its refillable ink tanks lower ongoing ink costs, and it combines color printing, scanning, copying, an automatic document feeder (ADF), automatic two-sided printing, Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Choose the Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II instead when fast text, fax and laser workflow matter most; the Brother INKvestment MFC-T780DW when low operating cost is the priority; the Canon MegaTank Pixma G3290 for inexpensive photo-oriented printing; or the Epson EcoTank ET-4950 when duplex scanning and larger paper capacity justify a higher-feature machine.
The right choice depends less on headline print speed than on your document volume, whether you print photos, how often you scan multipage originals, and whether you need fax or laser toner. The comparisons below separate automatic duplex printing from duplex scanning, identify regional uncertainties, and show where each model gives up a feature found on the OfficeJet Pro 8125.

What you are replacing: the OfficeJet Pro 8125
HP lists the OfficeJet Pro 8125 as a cartridge-based color all-in-one. It prints, scans and copies, and uses separate HP 923 black, cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges; EvoMore versions are also listed. That cartridge system is familiar and convenient, but frequent color printing can make replacement supplies a significant part of ownership cost.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Refillable ink tanks: Epson EcoTank, Brother INKvestment and Canon MegaTank models use bottles to refill reservoirs. They generally cost more at purchase but can reduce the cost per page substantially.
- Laser toner: The Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II uses toner. It is suited to rapid, consistent office documents, but its color and mono running-cost figures are high in the cited test.
- Cartridges: The 8125 remains the conventional cartridge reference point. It can make sense for light, irregular printing when a lower initial price matters more than the long-run cost.
Ink-tank printers are not automatically better for every household. A laser model may be preferable for a busy office that prints text every day, while a tank model is usually more economical for regular color pages and mixed home-office work.

Epson EcoTank ET-3850: the safest all-round choice
Why it suits a typical home office
The ET-3850 covers the core duties that make the OfficeJet Pro 8125 useful: color output, scanning and copying, plus an ADF for multi-page jobs. Automatic two-sided printing helps reduce paper use without manually turning sheets. Wi-Fi supports ordinary home networking, while Ethernet is useful when the printer will stay near a router or serve several computers.
Its defining change is the refillable tank system. Instead of replacing four small cartridges, you add bottled ink to the corresponding reservoirs. For a household that prints school material, invoices, shipping labels and occasional photos every week, that arrangement usually makes more financial sense over time than repeatedly buying cartridges.
What it does not do
The cited ET-3850 configuration has no fax and does not provide duplex scanning. Its ADF can feed multiple pages, but two-sided originals still require manual handling. The printer also costs more initially than a basic cartridge all-in-one, so the break-even point depends on how much you print and the local price of replacement bottles.
Choose it when
- You need one machine for ordinary color documents, copying and scanning.
- You want both Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet.
- You print enough color pages for refillable tanks to offset a higher purchase price.
- You can live without fax and one-pass or automatic two-sided scanning.
Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II: fastest office-style workflow
Why laser may be the better alternative
The MF753Cdw II is a color laser multifunction printer that prints, copies, scans and faxes. It supports Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB-A, giving it the broadest connectivity mix among the models listed here. Laser printing is particularly attractive when most pages are text, forms or business graphics and you want rapid, consistent output without waiting for ink to dry.

Tom’s Guide named it its best overall all-in-one and reported approximately 51 cents per color page and 27 cents per mono page in its 2026 test context. Those are test-specific, time-sensitive figures rather than a universal tariff: your page coverage, regional toner prices and retailer availability will change the result. They also explain why this printer is a speed-and-workflow recommendation rather than a low-cost-per-page recommendation.

Trade-offs to plan for
The printer is heavy, so treat it as a semi-permanent appliance rather than something you will move between rooms. Toner costs are high relative to the ink-tank options. If your workload is mostly occasional color pages, the higher consumable cost can outweigh the convenience of laser speed.
Choose it when
- Fast text output matters more than the lowest consumable cost.
- You need fax as well as print, scan and copy functions.
- You want Ethernet and USB-A alongside Wi-Fi.
- You have a stable location and can accommodate a heavier printer.
Brother INKvestment MFC-T780DW: best value from refillable ink
Where the value comes from
Tom’s Guide identifies the MFC-T780DW as its best-value choice, citing fast printing and scanning with very low ink costs. Its refill-bottle design follows the usual ink-tank economics: bottles generally yield more pages than conventional cartridges, so the cost per page can be low once the printer is in regular use.
This makes it a strong candidate for a family office or home business that prints frequently but does not need a laser engine. The savings are most meaningful when you actually use the printer; a very occasional printer may not recover a higher tank-printer purchase price quickly.
The ADF limitation matters
The MFC-T780DW’s ADF does not support duplex scanning or copying. It can automate a stack of single-sided originals, but double-sided documents require you to turn the pages and run them again. That distinction is easy to miss when a listing simply says “ADF.”
Choose it when
- Your priority is low ink spending rather than fax or laser speed.
- You print and scan often enough to benefit from refill bottles.
- Your multipage originals are normally single-sided.
- You want a value-focused alternative and can accept manual handling for double-sided scans.
Canon MegaTank Pixma G3290: economical photo-oriented printing
What the G3290 class is designed for
Tom’s Guide positions the G3290 as its best-for-photos budget tank option. Canon’s MegaTank approach uses refill bottles, making frequent color and photo printing less expensive than relying on small cartridges. It is a sensible direction for a home that wants inexpensive color output but does not need a full business-oriented feature set.

TechRadar’s description of the related G3270 class gives a useful baseline: 11 ipm mono speed and a 100-sheet paper capacity, with basic print, scan and copy functions. That class does not include automatic duplex printing, a touchscreen or an ADF.
Verify the exact regional version
G3290 and G3270 are not interchangeable model names. Features can change by market, so confirm the specification sheet for the exact G3290 sold in your country before relying on the G3270-class figures. In particular, check whether the unit has an ADF, automatic duplex, the stated paper capacity and the control-panel type.
Choose it when
- Photo-friendly color output and low refill cost matter more than office automation.
- Your documents are short enough that a 100-sheet-class tray is acceptable.
- You do not need an ADF, touchscreen or automatic two-sided printing.
- You are willing to verify regional specifications before purchase.
Epson EcoTank ET-4950: the feature-rich tank option
Why it stands apart
TechRadar describes the ET-4950 series as a four-in-one home-office or small-business ink-tank printer with automatic duplex printing and automatic duplex scanning. That combination addresses the biggest weakness of many inexpensive tank models: the ability to process both sides of a multipage original without manually flipping sheets.

A responsive touchscreen simplifies routine setup and copying. Epson estimates that the included ink can last about three years; treat that as the manufacturer’s estimate under its assumed usage, not a guarantee for every household.
TechRadar states that bottled ink costs 95% less than cartridge ink in its comparison. That is a comparative statement from that evaluation, not a fixed saving in every country or at every page coverage level.
Connectivity and hardware omissions
The ET-4950 series does not include a USB host port, NFC, Bluetooth or a multipurpose tray. Those omissions rarely matter for straightforward Wi-Fi or Ethernet home use, but they can matter if you print directly from a USB flash drive, pair devices without a network, or feed specialty media through a separate tray.

Ink tank, laser or cartridge: a practical decision
Occasional printing
If you print only a few pages a month, compare the complete purchase price, included ink or toner and the manufacturer’s maintenance guidance. A low initial price can be rational when the printer will sit idle for long periods. Tank models become more compelling as regular color volume increases, but their higher entry price is harder to justify for very light use.

For invoices, school forms, shipping labels, scans and occasional photos, the ET-3850 is the broadest fit. The MFC-T780DW is the value alternative if duplex scanning is not part of your workflow. Choose the ET-4950 if two-sided originals and a larger paper tray are routine rather than occasional.
High-volume text
A laser workflow is attractive when speed and crisp text dominate. The MF753Cdw II adds fax and several connection options, but budget for toner using your own local prices instead of assuming that its purchase price predicts running cost.
Photo-heavy home use
The G3290 is the budget photo-oriented choice among these recommendations. Confirm the local specification and consider whether the lack of an ADF or automatic duplex is acceptable before choosing it over a more office-focused tank printer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.ADF, automatic duplex printing and duplex scanning are different
ADF
An automatic document feeder pulls a stack of pages through the scanner instead of requiring you to place each sheet on the glass. It improves copying and scanning of single-sided multi-page documents, but it says nothing by itself about two-sided originals.
Automatic duplex printing
Duplex printing turns a page over inside the printer so it can print on both sides. The ET-3850 and ET-4950 are cited as supporting this function. It saves paper for reports and drafts but does not make a two-sided scan.

Duplex scanning
Duplex scanning captures both sides of an original automatically. The ET-4950 is specifically described as supporting automatic duplex scanning. The cited ET-3850 configuration does not, and the MFC-T780DW ADF does not support duplex scanning or copying. If your paperwork is double-sided, check for the words “duplex scan,” “two-sided scan” or “single-pass duplex” rather than relying on “ADF.”
How to choose before you buy
- Count your workload. Estimate monthly black-and-white pages, color pages, photos and multipage scans. Separate occasional peaks from your normal month.
- Choose the supply system. Pick a tank for regular color volume and low bottle cost, laser for speed and text-heavy work, or cartridges when low initial commitment matters most.
- List must-have functions. Mark fax, ADF, automatic duplex printing, duplex scanning, copy speed, paper capacity and Ethernet as separate requirements.
- Check the exact suffix. Regional variants can change ports, trays, wireless features and included supplies. This is especially important for the G3290 versus G3270-class comparison.
- Price consumables locally. Use the price and yield of the exact bottles, toner or cartridges available in your country. A test figure or manufacturer estimate cannot replace that calculation.
- Confirm physical placement. The MF753Cdw II is described as heavy; allow enough clearance for paper, cables and ventilation before ordering.
- Verify the return and support terms. A printer is a long-lived appliance. Confirm warranty coverage, driver support for your operating systems and availability of genuine supplies.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every tank printer has the same features
Tank technology describes the ink delivery system, not the scanner, tray or networking package. The inexpensive G3270 class, the office-oriented ET-3850 and the duplex-capable ET-4950 occupy very different feature tiers.
Confusing page speed units
The cited Canon G3270-class figure is 11 ipm mono, while the ET-4950 figure is 18 ppm mono. Those measurements come from different sources and should be treated as directional rather than as a controlled head-to-head benchmark. Real output varies with page coverage, quality mode, paper and the time needed for the first page.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Using a color-page estimate as a personal bill
The MF753Cdw II figures of about 51 cents per color page and 27 cents per mono page came from Tom’s Guide’s 2026 test context. Coverage, toner yields, regional pricing and replacement schedules can all change your cost.
Buying on tray capacity alone
A 250-sheet tray reduces refilling for a busy office, but it does not tell you whether the machine accepts envelopes or specialty media conveniently. Conversely, a 100-sheet tray may be perfectly adequate for occasional printing if the missing capacity is not a daily annoyance.
