The best alternatives to Beats Studio Buds+ for noise cancellation and everyday listening

Short answer: choose the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) if maximum noise cancellation is your priority, AirPods Pro 3 if you use an iPhone, Galaxy Buds4 Pro if you use a Samsung phone, and Soundcore by Anker Liberty 5 Pro if you want to spend less. Sony WF-1000XM5 remains a useful reference alternative for multipoint and app-based sound tuning, but it is not Sony’s newest generation in 2026 coverage.

The right upgrade depends on more than an ANC label. Ear-tip seal, long-session comfort, transparency mode, ANC-on battery life, phone ecosystem, multipoint support, water resistance, sound preferences and the live price all matter. No single model is best for every listener.

What the Beats Studio Buds+ already do well

Before replacing them, it helps to establish the baseline. Beats lists a two-layer transducer, four ear-tip sizes (XS, S, M and L), and up to 36 hours of total listening with the charging case. Those are manufacturer-published figures, not independent ANC-on or endurance-test results. The four tip sizes can make a good seal easier to achieve, but the largest advertised total runtime includes the case and should not be read as 36 hours from one charge or as a guaranteed result with every feature enabled.

In a direct RTINGS comparison with Sony WF-1000XM5, Studio Buds+ delivered noise isolation described as almost as good as Sony’s, and both models had the same splash rating. RTINGS found Sony had longer battery life, simultaneous connection to two devices and a companion app with equalizer and presets. Those differences are practical reasons to upgrade, but they do not make the Beats unusable for everyday listening.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) - Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds with Mic, Immersive Audio, USB-C Charging, Up to 6 Hours Battery, IPX4 Rating, Black
  • WORLD-CLASS NOISE CANCELLATION: The best noise cancellation of any Bose wireless earbuds is now even better than before. ActiveSense technology smooths spikes in surrounding sound, so even in Aware Mode distractions won’t get in the way.
  • CUSTOMTUNE TECHNOLOGY: CustomTune technology analyses your ears and adapts your in-ear headphones to their shape. The result? World-class noise cancellation and custom sound for bigger chills every time you press play.
  • NOISE CONTROL: Quickly adjust the level of noise cancellation without using Modes, including turning it off completely to conserve battery.
  • IMMERSIVE AUDIO: Bose Immersive Audio spatialises what you’re hearing by taking it out of your head and placing it beyond your Bluetooth earbuds. It’s like listening from the acoustic sweet spot, where songs sound like the artist intended.
  • SECURE FIT AND STABILITY: Choose from nine combos of eartips and stability bands to find the snuggest fit for comfortable earbuds. The soft, umbrella-shaped tips seal the opening of your ear to reduce outside noises while stability bands hug them.

Best alternatives at a glance

Reader priority Shortlist What the evidence supports Main qualification
Strongest ANC Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) WIRED’s 2026 noise-cancelling guide and Tom’s Guide’s 2026 tested guide both put Bose at or near the top of the ANC category. Tom’s Guide lists six hours with ANC on and 24 hours including the case; WIRED notes relatively large earbuds and a premium position.
Apple-device integration AirPods Pro 3 WIRED highlights easy Apple-device connectivity and Find My support. Tom’s Guide lists an eight-hour per-charge rating. Tom’s Guide says Android feature support is less compelling; its listed total is 24 hours with the case.
Samsung-device integration Galaxy Buds4 Pro WIRED names the model as its Samsung-oriented choice. Samsung’s first-quarter 2026 report records a March 2026 launch. Do not substitute older Galaxy Buds3 Pro performance claims for the Buds4 Pro.
Lower-priced ANC Soundcore by Anker Liberty 5 Pro WIRED labels it a budget ANC pick. Check the live price and exact listing; the available evidence does not establish parity with Bose.
Multipoint and app tuning Sony WF-1000XM5 RTINGS reports longer battery life, simultaneous two-device pairing, and app EQ/presets versus Studio Buds+. It is not Sony’s newest generation in 2026 coverage, so verify whether its price and availability still make sense.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen): the ANC-first choice

If your main complaint about Studio Buds+ is that outside sound still breaks through, start with Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen). Both WIRED’s 2026 buying guide and Tom’s Guide’s 2026 tested guide place Bose at or near the top of the noise-cancelling category. That convergence is the strongest evidence in this shortlist for an ANC-led purchase.

What you gain

  • A recommendation from two current buying guides specifically for noise cancellation.
  • A design aimed at reducing low-frequency environmental noise such as transport rumble and office HVAC, although the amount you perceive depends on seal and individual anatomy.
  • A clear upgrade path when passive fit and the Studio Buds+ ANC combination are not quiet enough for your commute or workday.

Trade-offs

  • Tom’s Guide lists six hours of listening per charge with ANC enabled and 24 hours with the case. This is a guide-listed specification, not a guarantee for every volume level, codec or call pattern.
  • WIRED flags the earbuds’ relatively large size. Try them for a full listening session if you are sensitive to pressure or have small ears.
  • The model occupies a premium price position. Prices and stock change, so check the current listing immediately before buying.

A strong ANC system cannot compensate for a poor seal. Use the tip and stability options supplied with the earbuds, walk around while testing, and compare speech and low-frequency noise rather than judging only from a short desktop demo.

AirPods Pro 3: the easiest iPhone upgrade

For an iPhone owner, AirPods Pro 3 is the ecosystem-led alternative. WIRED calls out easy connectivity across Apple devices and Find My support. Tom’s Guide lists up to eight hours per charge and 24 hours with the case, giving this model the highest single-charge figure in the quantitative figures supplied for the current shortlist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why Apple users may prefer it

  • Apple-device pairing and switching are central to the recommendation, reducing the friction of moving between an iPhone and other Apple hardware.
  • Find My support is specifically identified by WIRED as a useful ownership feature.
  • The eight-hour rating gives more headroom between charges than the six-hour ANC-on figure listed for Bose, although the test conditions and enabled features are not identical.

Who should look elsewhere

Tom’s Guide says Android support is less compelling. An Android owner can still use basic Bluetooth listening, but should confirm which controls and software features are available on that phone before paying for an Apple-focused experience. If your overriding need is the strongest possible ANC rather than ecosystem convenience, Bose remains the more direct recommendation from the cited guides.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro: the Samsung-focused option

Samsung phone owners should investigate Galaxy Buds4 Pro rather than automatically buying the older Galaxy Buds3 Pro. WIRED’s current guide names Buds4 Pro as its Samsung-oriented choice, and Samsung’s first-quarter 2026 interim report records the model’s March 2026 launch.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) - Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds with Mic, Immersive Audio, USB-C Charging, Up to 6 Hours Battery, IPX4 Rating, Desert Gold - Limited Edition Color

Why model identity matters

The supplied ANC and battery measurements from the Korea Consumer Agency concern an older test cohort, including Galaxy Buds3 Pro, not Buds4 Pro. Those results cannot be presented as Buds4 Pro performance. Likewise, Samsung’s Buds3 Pro specification page is a reference for the previous model, not evidence for the 2026 successor.

Buying checklist for Samsung owners

  • Confirm that the retailer listing says “Galaxy Buds4 Pro,” not Buds3 Pro or a similarly named predecessor.
  • Check compatibility and feature support for your exact Samsung phone and operating-system version.
  • Evaluate fit and transparency performance in person where possible; ecosystem integration does not guarantee a comfortable seal.
  • Recheck launch-region availability and price because the March 2026 timing means listings can vary by market.

Soundcore by Anker Liberty 5 Pro: the price-conscious ANC route

WIRED labels Soundcore by Anker Liberty 5 Pro its budget ANC pick. That makes it the model to investigate when Bose’s premium position is outside your budget, not proof that it cancels noise as effectively. The supplied evidence does not provide a controlled head-to-head ANC result or a battery figure for Liberty 5 Pro.

Compare the current price, warranty, included tips, return policy and exact model name. Retail listings can mix generations or regional packages. If the price gap to a higher-ranked model is small during a sale, consider whether the better-documented ANC performance and fit options are worth paying for; if the gap is substantial, the Soundcore model may be the rational value experiment.

Sony WF-1000XM5: a feature-rich reference point

Sony WF-1000XM5 is not the newest Sony generation in 2026 coverage, but RTINGS’ direct comparison makes it a useful benchmark against Studio Buds+. RTINGS reports longer battery life, simultaneous connection to two devices and a companion app with EQ and presets. Those are meaningful upgrades for people who use a phone and laptop together or regularly change their sound profile.

What the comparison actually establishes

  • RTINGS describes the Sony model as having longer battery life than Studio Buds+.
  • Sony can maintain connections to two devices simultaneously, while the comparison identifies that capability as a difference from Beats.
  • The Sony companion app provides EQ and presets; Studio Buds+ does not receive that same advantage in the cited comparison.
  • RTINGS says Studio Buds+ noise isolation is almost as good as Sony’s, so buying Sony should be about the complete feature set rather than assuming a dramatic ANC gap.
  • The two models have the same splash rating in RTINGS’ comparison.

Because WF-1000XM5 is an older generation relative to Sony’s 2026 coverage, verify current stock, support and price before treating it as a future-proof purchase.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) - Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds with Mic, Immersive Audio, USB-C Charging, Up to 6 Hours Battery, IPX4 Rating, Deep Plum - Limited Edition Color

How to compare ANC fairly

Active noise cancellation and passive isolation are related but different. Ear tips and the physical seal block sound before electronics process it. ANC then creates an opposing signal to reduce portions of the remaining noise. A loose fit can make any ANC system seem weak, while a tight but uncomfortable fit may be unusable for a full day.

Use these criteria

  • ANC effectiveness: test steady low-frequency noise, voices and intermittent sounds separately.
  • Fit and seal: try every supplied tip size, then move your jaw and walk to see whether the seal breaks.
  • Comfort over time: wear each earbud for at least 30–60 minutes; large housings can become tiring even when cancellation is excellent.
  • ANC-on battery: compare like with like. A manufacturer’s “up to” case total is not equivalent to an independently measured continuous ANC result.
  • Transparency or ambient mode: check whether speech sounds natural and whether you can hear traffic safely when appropriate.
  • Multipoint: important if you alternate between a phone and computer; Sony’s RTINGS comparison explicitly documents simultaneous two-device pairing.
  • Water resistance: confirm the exact rating for the model and use case. The cited RTINGS comparison says Studio Buds+ and WF-1000XM5 share the same splash rating, but that does not make either suitable for submersion.
  • Phone ecosystem: Apple and Samsung recommendations are conditional on owning the corresponding devices.
  • Sound preference: there is no evidence in the supplied comparisons that one tuning suits every listener. Use an equalizer where the model and app support it, and audition familiar tracks.

Battery numbers: what they mean

Battery claims in this category are not interchangeable. Beats’ “up to 36 hours” is a case-supported manufacturer rating. Tom’s Guide lists AirPods Pro 3 at up to eight hours per charge and 24 hours with the case, and Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) at six hours per charge with ANC on and 24 hours with the case. These figures come from a 2026 guide and use different product and test assumptions.

The Korea Consumer Agency’s 2025 controlled test measured ANC-on continuous playback among the products in its older test cohort: Bose QuietComfort Ultra 6 hours 30 minutes, Galaxy Buds3 Pro 6 hours 30 minutes, Sony WF-1000XM5 7 hours 50 minutes, AirPods Pro (2nd generation) 5 hours 50 minutes and JBL Tour Pro 3 9 hours 10 minutes. The agency used its own set conditions, including maximum ANC and pink noise. The figures describe that test cohort, not ordinary use and not the 2026 successors AirPods Pro 3 or Galaxy Buds4 Pro.

What the Korea Consumer Agency ANC test can—and cannot—tell you

In the same 2025 report, the agency rated Bose QuietComfort Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro, Sony WF-1000XM5, Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) and JBL Tour Pro 3 relatively strong on its ANC test. Because the method used maximum ANC with pink noise, the ranking is useful as a controlled reference but not a promise of identical results on voices, wind, train brakes or your own ears. It also cannot rank newer models that were not in the cohort.

A practical decision path

  1. Set your phone ecosystem first. Choose AirPods Pro 3 for an Apple-centered setup, Galaxy Buds4 Pro for a Samsung-centered setup, or keep the field open on other phones.
  2. Decide whether ANC or comfort is the constraint. If blocking noise is the overriding goal, put Bose first. If you already find large earbuds uncomfortable, prioritize a returnable purchase and extended fit testing.
  3. Decide whether you need multipoint. Choose a model with documented simultaneous two-device support if you switch constantly between phone and computer; RTINGS documents that advantage for Sony WF-1000XM5 over Studio Buds+.
  4. Set a live price ceiling. Investigate Liberty 5 Pro as the budget path, but compare the actual current price rather than an old list price or temporary discount.
  5. Check the exact generation. Do not use Buds3 Pro measurements to predict Buds4 Pro performance, and verify whether Sony WF-1000XM5’s older-generation status affects value.
  6. Test the complete routine. Confirm pairing, transparency, calls, ANC, comfort and charging before the return window closes.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Mistaking case runtime for single-charge runtime

Fix: record per-charge and case-supported figures separately. A 36-hour case rating for Studio Buds+ cannot be compared directly with Bose’s six-hour ANC-on per-charge figure.

Assuming the newest model inherits an older test result

Fix: treat Galaxy Buds3 Pro and AirPods Pro 2 measurements as historical cohort data only. They do not establish Buds4 Pro or AirPods Pro 3 performance.

Ignoring fit while comparing ANC

Fix: use all tip sizes, check the seal while moving, and assess comfort after a long session. Perceived cancellation varies with ear shape.

Buying for a phone you do not use

Fix: verify which ecosystem features matter on your device. The Apple-specific case for AirPods Pro 3 is weaker on Android, according to Tom’s Guide.

Assuming a budget label means equal performance

Fix: regard Liberty 5 Pro as a lower-price option to investigate, not as proven Bose-equivalent ANC. Look for a clear return policy and check the current listing.

Bottom line by reader type

  • Most demanding ANC buyer: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen), accepting six-hour ANC-on battery, larger earbuds and premium pricing.
  • iPhone owner: AirPods Pro 3, for Apple connectivity, Find My and the eight-hour listed per-charge rating.
  • Samsung phone owner: Galaxy Buds4 Pro, the current Samsung-focused pick; verify the March 2026 model and do not substitute Buds3 Pro data.
  • Budget-focused buyer: Soundcore by Anker Liberty 5 Pro, after checking live price, listing and return terms.
  • Two-device worker: Sony WF-1000XM5, if its older-generation status and current price still make sense, because RTINGS documents multipoint, longer battery life and app EQ/presets versus Studio Buds+.
