The material documents testing on more than 20 basket-style fryers and 10 air-fryer toaster ovens, but it does not verify this exact headline or a stable nine-product ranking. The models below are the Food & Wine-tested products supported by the available material—not a fabricated 2026 ranking.
Before buying, check the manufacturer’s current product page for the exact model number. Names such as “Vortex Plus,” “Ninja Air Fryer,” and “Philips 3000 Series” cover multiple generations and regional versions with different dimensions, controls, coatings, and capacities.

How Food & Wine tested these air fryers
Food & Wine’s testing went beyond cooking one basket of frozen fries. Its evaluations included frozen and fresh-cut fries, vegetables, breaded shrimp and chicken tenders, cornbread, and whole chicken. More recent testing added recipes such as miso air-fryer salmon with baby bok choy and bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin.

The testers assessed crisping, temperature accuracy, heating consistency, cleanup, nonstick performance, size, weight, noise, usability, and value. Value came after performance—not as a substitute for it.
#1 Best Overall
- 𝘼𝙞𝙧 𝙁𝙧𝙮𝙚𝙧 𝙐𝙥𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚: Innovative TurboBlaze Technology delivers a powerful 3600 rpm fan speed and temperatures up to 450℉, achieving crispy, juicy results every time
- 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙐𝙥𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚: Cosori's unique 5-fan speed system and precise 90°– 450°F temperature control deliver evenly cooked dishes with perfect texture in every bite
- 𝙋𝙁𝘼𝙎-𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙐𝙥𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚: The basket and crisper tray feature a PFAS-free, nonstick ceramic coating for enhanced durability, heat resistance, and a healthier cooking experience.
- 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙐𝙥𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚: Innovative TurboBlaze Technology helps speed up cooking and save time to deliver perfectly crispy family meals, even on busy days
- 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙐𝙥𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚: The 6-quart square basket offers a wide, deep design, great for the entire family meals while saving you space on your kitchen counter or cabinet
That distinction matters. A cheap fryer that browns unevenly is not a bargain, and a large appliance can be the wrong choice if you only cook for one person. Food & Wine also warns that products can change substantially between generations, which is why a current model number matters more than a familiar product name.
Food & Wine-tested air fryers worth considering
1. Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart Air Fryer — best all-around basket design
The Instant Vortex Plus has remained a long-running favorite because its wide, square basket gives food more useful surface area than a similarly sized, narrower basket. It produced consistent, accurate results with fries, wings, coconut shrimp, Brussels sprouts, salmon, and pork tenderloin.
It is also relatively quiet and its nonstick interior is straightforward to clean. The drawbacks are a relatively slow preheat, no Wi-Fi controls, and somewhat less aggressive browning than more powerful competitors. It is not the best tool for frequent crowd-size batches, either.
Best for: most households that want a conventional 6-quart basket fryer without unnecessary smart features.
2. COSORI TurboBlaze 6-Quart Air Fryer — best lower-cost alternative
The TurboBlaze offers a compact footprint despite its nominal 6-quart capacity. Its basket and crisper plate are dishwasher-safe, and the cooking modes cover air fry, broil, roast, dehydrate, bake, frozen food, reheat, keep-warm, and proof.
Food & Wine found its cooking accurate, although browning was not perfect on every food. Salmon skin, in particular, was less crisp and less deeply browned than on some competing models. That makes the TurboBlaze a strong value-oriented option, but not automatically the best choice for people who prioritize the darkest, crispiest finish.
Best for: shoppers who want many functions and a small exterior footprint at a lower price than premium models.

- 450°F HI-FRY TECHNOLOGY: Achieve the perfect finishing crunch on your air-fried favorites. Increase the heat to 450°F during the final two minutes of cooking: perfect for extra crispy chicken tenders and French fries.
- STYLISH AND COMPACT: The sleek, narrow design of this air fryers maximizes its 4-quart capacity while minimizing its countertop footprint. Its compact size makes it a great space saver, fitting perfectly on your counter or in your cabinets
- HEALTHY COOKING: Enjoy delicious meals with little-to-no oil. This Chefman small air fryer lets you cook healthier, low-fat meals that still taste amazing
- SHAKE NOTIFICATIONS: Get notified with an audible alarm halfway through cooking, reminding you to shake your food for the crispiest results possible
3. Ninja CRISPi 4-in-1 Glass Air Fryer — best glass-container concept
The CRISPi stands apart from standard basket fryers by using glass cooking containers. The package includes a 4-quart container and a smaller 6-cup container; both can move from cooking to serving to storage, and the glass and accessories are dishwasher-safe.
That design is useful for leftovers and for anyone who dislikes storing food in a coated metal basket. It does not, however, turn the CRISPi into a universal family-size fryer. Independent testing found limited manual control and inconsistent crisping, so this is better treated as a specialized convenience appliance than as the default best overall.
Do not describe the whole appliance as PFAS-free without checking the exact model and component. Independent testing identifies a ceramic nonstick coating on the crisper plate, even though the cooking chamber is glass.
Best for: small households that value glass storage containers and compact cleanup over maximum batch performance.
4. Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro — best premium countertop oven
The Breville is a different type of appliance from the basket models. It combines air frying with toasting, baking, roasting, broiling, dehydrating, and other oven functions. Its large interior can handle dishes that will not fit in a conventional basket fryer.
Breville’s Element IQ sensors adjust heating to help reduce hot and cold spots. The tradeoff is substantial counter space, considerable weight, and a high price. If air frying is your only requirement, paying for this oven is difficult to justify; if you need a second oven that can also air-fry, its capacity becomes much more useful.
Best for: cooks who want an air fryer and a serious countertop toaster oven in one appliance.
Rank #3
- AIR CRISP TECHNOLOGY: 400℉ superheated air surrounds food for hot, crispy results with little to no oil.
- 4-IN-1 FUNCTIONALITY: Features 4 customizable cooking functions—Air Fry, Roast, Reheat, and Dehydrate for maximum versatility. A powerful1750-watt air fryer that’s built for everyday use.
- LARGE CAPACITY: The 5-QT nonstick basket and crisper plate fit up to 4 lbs of French fries or 5 lbs of chicken wings.
- GUILT-FREE FRIED FOODS: Up to 75% less fat than traditional air frying methods. Tested against hand-cut, deep-fried French fries.
- FROZEN TO CRISPY: Cook frozen foods in just minutes for an extra-crispy finish.
5. Ninja 4-Quart Air Fryer — best compact basket model
This smaller Ninja produced strong results with garlic, wings, shrimp, biscuits, and fries. It is compact, quiet, easy to store, and simple to clean, making it a practical choice for solo cooks, couples, dorm rooms, and small kitchens.
The limitation is capacity. A 4-quart label does not mean you can cook a large batch of wings or homemade fries in one uncrowded layer. If you routinely cook for several people, the smaller footprint will quickly become a bottleneck.
Best for: one or two people who prefer a small appliance and do not need family-size batches.
6. Philips Dual Basket 3000 Series — best for cooking two foods at once
The Philips uses two asymmetrical baskets: approximately 6 liters on one side and 3 liters on the other. Food & Wine found strong results with cauliflower and chicken wings, with consistent cooking in both baskets. Its 1,700-watt output supports simultaneous cooking without forcing every food into the same compartment.
The large footprint is the main concern. Measure the available counter space, including room for ventilation and opening the baskets, and verify the current manufacturer dimensions before ordering. This model does not include a viewing window.
Best for: households that regularly cook a main dish and side at the same time.
7. Instant Omni Plus 18L/19-quart Air Fryer Toaster Oven — best large multifunction model
The Omni Plus is designed for jobs that exceed a typical basket fryer. Depending on the current version, it can air-fry, bake, broil, roast, dehydrate, reheat, rotisserie-cook, toast, and keep food warm. Its interior can accommodate a 12-inch pizza, a whole chicken, or a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
Rank #4
- SMART FINISH & MATCH COOK: DualZone Technology allows you to choose between the Smart Finish feature, which unlocks cooking 2 foods 2 ways that finish at the same time, and the and a Match Cook button to easily copy settings across zones for full 8-qt capacity.
- 6-IN-1 FUNCTIONALITY: Includes 6 versatile cooking programs: Air Fry, Air Broil, Roast, Bake, Reheat, and Dehydrate. The baskets can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand.
- XL CAPACITY: The 8-quart air fryer capacity lets you fit mains and sides at the same time for making quick family meals, or up to 4 lbs. of French fries or chicken wings.
- SEPARATE HEATING ZONES: 2 independent 4-quart zones have their own cooking baskets, cyclonic fans, and rapid heaters.
- EASY CLEANING: Easy-to-clean baskets and dishwasher-safe crisper plates.
Testing found especially strong toast and baking performance. For basic air frying, however, it does not necessarily outperform smaller top picks. It is bulky and costs more than a basic 6-quart fryer, so its value depends on whether you will use the oven functions.
Best for: families that want a countertop oven capable of handling pizza, roasts, baking dishes, and air-fried food.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Why there are not nine verified winners here
The available Food & Wine material does not support adding two more products simply to make the headline’s number work. Its guide has changed over time, and the indexed evidence does not establish exactly nine current 2026 winners with verified rankings, prices, and model numbers.
That is preferable to filling the list with outdated products or treating an older recommendation as a current award. Before publication or purchase, confirm the live Food & Wine guide and the manufacturer page together. Pay particular attention to the exact model number, capacity, basket configuration, dimensions, and whether the listing is for a current generation.
How to choose among them
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reliable everyday basket cooking | Instant Vortex Plus | Wide basket, consistent heating, relatively quiet operation |
| Lower cost and many modes | COSORI TurboBlaze | Compact design, dishwasher-safe parts, broad mode selection |
| Smallest practical setup | Ninja 4-Quart | Compact and easy to store, but limited for batches |
| Two foods at once | Philips Dual Basket 3000 Series | Asymmetrical baskets and consistent simultaneous cooking |
| Glass storage and serving | Ninja CRISPi | Glass containers can be used for cooking, serving, and storage |
| Countertop oven replacement | Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro or Instant Omni Plus | Much larger interiors and several oven functions |
Capacity is not just the quart number
A printed capacity describes volume, not usable crisping area. A 6-quart basket can still be too narrow for a single layer of wings or fresh-cut fries. For frozen fries, 4 to 6 quarts is generally adequate; homemade fries and wings benefit from a wider basket or a larger cooking surface.
Overcrowding traps moisture and produces steamed, soft food. Shake, stir, or turn the contents halfway through cooking so more surfaces meet the circulating air. A small amount of oil or cooking spray can improve browning and release; air frying reduces oil use but does not eliminate the need for it in every recipe.

Dishwasher-safe parts are convenient, but not always convenient in practice. Large baskets can consume much of a dishwasher rack, while hand-washing may be quicker on a smooth nonstick surface. Let removable parts cool, use a soft sponge, and avoid abrasive tools that can damage the coating.
Best Value
- FRY UP YOUR FAVORITES: Enjoy faster, healthier cooking for popular deep fryer foods like French fries, corn dogs, chicken wings, Brussels sprouts, and more! This stainless steel air fryer produces extra-crispy meals with a fraction of the calories compared to oily, messy deep fryers.
- FOUR-IN-ONE COOKING: This touchscreen air fryer features four functions, including Air Fry, Bake, and Reheat. Our new Frozen function defrosts and then crisps for an added crunch on fries or mozzarella sticks.
- INTUITIVE CONTROLS: Set up your cooking with the easy-to-use touch control UI. TurboFry air fryers let you program your perfect cooking time and temperature up to an impressive 400°F.
- BRING THE HEAT: The Chefman air fryer cranks up the temperature to 450°F for the final two minutes of cooking. Our HI-FRY button puts a beautiful golden-brown crisp on air fried potatoes and chicken.
- SHAKE NOTIFICATIONS: Get automatic alerts halfway through cooking to shake the air fryer basket, guaranteeing evenly crisped French fries without having to set an extra timer.
Measure depth as well as width. Basket fryers need clearance to pull out the drawer, while toaster-oven designs need room for the door and ventilation. A model that fits on the counter but blocks a cabinet or cannot open fully is not a practical fit.
FAQ
Did Food & Wine confirm exactly nine best air fryers for 2026?
The available indexed material does not confirm a fixed list of exactly nine 2026 winners. Food & Wine’s guide has changed over time, so the live guide and current model pages should be checked before treating the title or ranking as official.
Which air fryer is best for most households?
The Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart is the strongest general-purpose option among the supported Food & Wine-tested models. It has a wide basket, consistent cooking, accurate temperatures, relatively quiet operation, and an easy-to-clean interior.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIs a 6-quart air fryer large enough for a family?
It depends on the basket’s shape and the food. Six quarts is generally enough for frozen fries, but homemade fries and wings need more surface area and may require multiple batches. Do not rely on the quart label alone.
Are glass air fryers healthier or automatically PFAS-free?
No blanket claim is justified. The Ninja CRISPi’s glass containers are its main design distinction, but independent testing identifies a ceramic nonstick coating on the crisper plate. Check the exact model and the manufacturer’s component-specific materials information.
The Bottom Line
The most defensible choices from the available Food & Wine testing material are the Instant Vortex Plus for everyday basket cooking, the COSORI TurboBlaze for a lower-cost multifunction option, the Ninja 4-Quart for small kitchens, and the Breville or Instant Omni Plus when you really need a countertop oven. The Philips is the better fit for two simultaneous dishes, while the Ninja CRISPi is a specialized glass-container design rather than a universal winner.
Because the exact “nine best for 2026” Food & Wine headline and ranking are not verified in the available evidence, check the current Food & Wine page and each manufacturer’s exact model number before relying on any ranking, price, capacity, or feature claim.
