Apple iPads
iPad Air (M4): the best all-rounder
Tom’s Guide names the M4 iPad Air its best overall tablet. It comes in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, with storage from 128GB to 1TB. Tom’s Guide’s overall guide generally credits iPads with stronger performance, better tablet-optimized apps and tight integration with other Apple devices. That is the guide’s assessment, not a universal rule. Apple’s compare page also notes that screen sizes are measured as rectangles, so the viewable area is smaller: the 13-inch Air measures 12.9 inches as a rectangle and the 11-inch Air 10.86 inches. Keep that in mind when comparing “inches” across brands.

iPad Pro (M5): only if you will use the headroom
The iPad Pro M5 appears in a 2026 syndicated roundup alongside the Air. The material reviewed doesn’t give its specs or pricing, so confirm the current configuration on Apple’s site. As a rule, step up from the Air only if you have sustained, demanding work such as heavy video editing or large creative projects. For notes, streaming, browsing and school, the Air covers most people.

Samsung Galaxy Tabs
Galaxy Tab S10 FE+: the value pick
Tom’s Guide presents this as a value-oriented all-rounder. The 13.1-inch 2880 × 1800 LCD is large for the money, and its 15 hours 43 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s lab test is among the strongest runtimes in that comparison. The panel is LCD rather than the AMOLED used on Samsung’s top models.
Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra: the proven premium option
The S11 Ultra is in the 2026 syndicated guide’s selection. It lasted 12 hours 3 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s test, noticeably less than the S10 FE+ or Lenovo’s Tab Plus Gen 2. With the S12 Ultra arriving, it may be the sensible choice if discounts appear, but verify current pricing.

Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: announced, not yet proven

- 11,600mAh battery with 45W charging
- S Pen included, so no separate pen purchase is needed

These are announced specs, not independent long-term test results, and the price and release date are US-specific. Treat it as the pick for people who want a laptop-sized Android canvas and can wait for reviews or local availability. Keyboard covers and screen protectors are model-specific, so check Samsung’s compare page for the right fit.

Lenovo tablets
Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2: the streaming pick
Tom’s Guide recommends it for video thanks to its 12.1-inch 2.5K display and JBL-tuned speakers. Its 16-hour lab result was at 60Hz, and it dropped to 13 hours 39 minutes at 120Hz. The guide also cautions that the Dimensity 7400 suits general use and lighter games rather than demanding gaming or work, and that speaker placement and weight distribution can make it awkward to hold.

Check before you buy
- Price for the exact storage and connectivity (Wi-Fi or cellular) you need.
- Whether a keyboard or stylus is included. Many tablets need them bought separately, and they add real cost.
- Display size and refresh rate. A 120Hz setting often reduces battery life, as the Lenovo results show.
- Whether the listing is for your country, since lineups and launch dates differ.
