On the latest full-year figures available heading into 2026, Tencent is the largest video game company by reported gaming revenue at about USD 33.6 billion. Sony Interactive Entertainment follows at about USD 31.3 billion, Microsoft Gaming at USD 21.79 billion, Nintendo at about USD 15.5 billion and NetEase at about USD 12.8 billion.
Those totals are not perfectly like-for-like: Tencent reports games only, while Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo include hardware, and NetEase includes games plus related value-added services. The ranking is therefore a current revenue comparison, not a definitive software-publisher league table.

1. Tencent: about USD 33.6 billion
Tencent reported RMB 241.6 billion in games revenue for calendar 2025, equivalent to about USD 33.6 billion at the source’s 2025 average exchange rate. Unlike the platform companies below it, this figure is specifically games revenue rather than a broader segment that also contains console hardware.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Where Tencent’s total came from
- Domestic games revenue: RMB 164.2 billion.
- International games revenue: RMB 77.4 billion.
- Cited contributors include Honour of Kings, Peacekeeper Elite, Delta Force, Riot Games’ VALORANT and Supercell’s mobile portfolio.
The domestic and international split shows why Tencent can lead a worldwide ranking even though its business is concentrated in digital games and live-service monetization rather than console manufacturing.
2. Sony Interactive Entertainment: about USD 31.3 billion
Sony’s Game & Network Services segment generated JPY 4,685.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, or about USD 31.3 billion using the stated conversion basis. That puts Sony close behind Tencent, but the totals describe different businesses.
What Sony’s figure includes
- PlayStation 5 hardware.
- Digital and physical game sales through the PlayStation ecosystem.
- PlayStation Store transactions.
- Subscriptions and other network services.
Digital software and add-on content alone reached JPY 2.415 trillion in the same fiscal year. Because hardware and network revenue are included in the headline segment, Sony’s result should not be read as software-publishing revenue alone.

Microsoft Gaming recorded USD 21.79 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026. The Xbox total combines content and services with hardware, so it represents the gaming business as reported by Microsoft rather than a standalone total for games published by its studios.
Rank #2
- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
Why the composition matters
In fiscal 2026, Microsoft reported Xbox content and services down 5% and hardware down 29%. The combined USD 21.79 billion still ranks third in this comparison, but the decline rates show how console sales and recurring or transactional content can move differently within the same segment.
4. Nintendo: about USD 15.5 billion
Nintendo reported JPY 2,313.0 billion in net sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, equivalent to about USD 15.5 billion on the stated exchange-rate basis. Its net sales rose 98.6% year over year, placing Nintendo above NetEase in this latest-year ranking.
Switch 2 drove the jump
- 19.86 million Switch 2 consoles sold during the fiscal year.
- 48.71 million Switch 2 games sold.
The launch-year hardware cycle is central to Nintendo’s position. The company’s figure includes both hardware and software, so it is not directly comparable with Tencent’s games-only total or with a pure software publisher’s revenue.

NetEase reported RMB 92.1 billion in games and related value-added services for calendar 2025, or about USD 12.8 billion using the stated conversion basis. Role-playing and cross-platform titles were among the cited contributors.

NetEase’s category is broader than games sales alone because it includes related value-added services. That makes its fifth-place result useful for measuring the scale of its gaming operation, but not an exact software-only comparison with any of the other four entries.

Revenue scope is different for each company
| Company | Scope caveat |
|---|---|
| Tencent | Games-only revenue, split between domestic and international games. |
| Sony | Games and Network Services, including console hardware, storefront sales and subscriptions. |
| Microsoft | Xbox content and services plus hardware. |
| Nintendo | Total company net sales, with hardware and software combined. |
| NetEase | Games plus related value-added services. |
Reporting periods do not end on the same date
Tencent and NetEase use calendar 2025. Sony and Nintendo use fiscal years ending in March 2026, while Microsoft uses the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. Each is the latest full-year disclosure available heading into 2026, but the periods overlap calendar years differently.
Currency conversion can affect close positions
The approximate U.S. dollar amounts use 2025 average exchange rates supplied for the ranking. A different average, a period-end rate or a later currency move would change the dollar presentation, particularly for Sony and Tencent, whose reported totals are relatively close.

What this does—and does not—show
The list answers which companies reported the largest gaming-related revenue in their latest available full year. It does not establish a pure software-publisher ranking. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do not disclose hardware and other platform revenue in a uniform format that would allow their software-only totals to be removed consistently. A publisher-only league table would therefore require estimates or disclosures that are not comparable across all five companies.
