In RTINGS’ September 29, 2026 ranking, the Coway Airmega Mighty2 is the strongest all-around choice; the Blueair Blue Signature Large serves larger rooms, while the Blueair Blue Pure 511i Max suits smaller budgets and bedrooms.
RTINGS says it has tested more than 50 air purifiers using a standardized test bench. The noise and room-size figures below are its reported test results, not manufacturer specifications or guarantees of what you will hear or achieve at home. See RTINGS’ quiet-air-purifier ranking and methodology.

Which quiet air purifier should you choose?
Start with the area you need to clean, then compare noise at the speed you expect to use most. RTINGS reports a recommended room size at each model’s lowest and highest fan speeds; the larger maximum-speed figure comes with more airflow and more noise. A unit sized with extra capacity for your room may be able to run more quietly, but the low-speed room rating—not just the biggest coverage number—is the more useful guide if you prioritize quiet.
| Model and best fit | RTINGS noise at lowest speed | RTINGS room size at lowest speed | RTINGS noise at highest speed | RTINGS room size at highest speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coway Airmega Mighty2 — most people | 31.1 dBA | 257 ft² (23.9 m²) | 57.2 dBA | 370 ft² (34.4 m²) |
| Blueair Blue Signature Large — larger rooms | 31.2 dBA | 332 ft² (30.8 m²) | 58.2 dBA | 670 ft² (62.2 m²) |
| Levoit Vital 200S — smaller quiet rooms | 32.7 dBA | 135 ft² (12.6 m²) | 55.6 dBA | 337 ft² (31.3 m²) |
| Blueair Blue Pure 511i Max — budget and compact rooms | 30.8 dBA | 149 ft² (13.8 m²) | 53.9 dBA | 234 ft² (21.8 m²) |
| Levoit Core Mini-P — very small spaces | 31.9 dBA | 48 ft² (4.4 m²) | 46.5 dBA | 48 ft² (4.4 m²) |
All figures in the table are RTINGS-reported results from its 2026 comparison. Decibel readings are not reliably comparable across different reviewers unless measurement distance, room acoustics, weighting, fan setting, and test method match.

1. Coway Airmega Mighty2: best for most people
The Mighty2 is the most balanced pick when you want meaningful low-speed coverage as well as the option to increase airflow. RTINGS reports 31.1 dBA at its lowest speed for a recommended 257 ft² (23.9 m²), and 57.2 dBA at its highest speed for up to 370 ft² (34.4 m²). RTINGS describes its cleaning performance at quieter speeds as impressive, making its low-speed room rating more useful than a quietness score alone.
Choose it for a bedroom, office, or living area that fits its low-speed recommendation. If you expect to rely on the highest speed to cover a larger area, plan for substantially more noise.
2. Blueair Blue Signature Large: best for larger rooms
The Blue Signature Large pairs a 31.2 dBA lowest-speed reading with RTINGS’ largest low-speed room recommendation in this group: 332 ft² (30.8 m²). At its highest speed, RTINGS reports 58.2 dBA and a 670 ft² (62.2 m²) room recommendation. It is the option to consider when room coverage and stronger high-speed performance matter more than getting the smallest or least expensive purifier.

There is an important trade-off for people sensitive to ozone: RTINGS says the model’s electrostatic charging system produces a small amount of ozone and is AHAM-certified within safe limits, but it cannot be turned off. RTINGS flags that as a potential concern for people with acute ozone sensitivity and some pet owners.
3. Levoit Vital 200S: better for smaller quiet rooms
The Vital 200S is a lower-mid-range choice for a smaller bedroom or home office where quieter operation matters. RTINGS reports 32.7 dBA at the lowest speed and recommends it for 135 ft² (12.6 m²) at that setting. Its highest-speed figures rise to 55.6 dBA and 337 ft² (31.3 m²).
Do not assume its maximum coverage applies while it is running quietly: RTINGS says the CADR at quieter speeds falls to less than half its maximum. If your room is near the maximum-speed recommendation but you need low noise, this is a poor match.

4. Blueair Blue Pure 511i Max: best compact budget pick
The Blue Pure 511i Max has the lowest lowest-speed reading among these five at 30.8 dBA, with RTINGS recommending it for 149 ft² (13.8 m²) at that speed. At the highest speed, RTINGS reports 53.9 dBA and 234 ft² (21.8 m²). Its compact size and modest coverage make it a sensible budget option for a small bedroom or office, rather than a large open-plan room.

Its particle-ionization system cannot be disabled, according to RTINGS. Consider that limitation if you specifically want to avoid ionization.
5. Levoit Core Mini-P: best for very small spaces
The Core Mini-P is quiet and compact, but RTINGS recommends it for just 48 ft² (4.4 m²) at both its lowest and highest speeds. Its measured noise rises from 31.9 dBA at the lowest setting to 46.5 dBA at the highest. Treat it as a purifier for a very small room or similarly limited area—not as a quiet substitute for a properly sized unit in a larger room.

How to judge quietness and room coverage
Compare the speed you will actually use
A purifier’s lowest-speed measurement says little about the noise you will hear if you need to run it faster. Check both the lowest-speed and maximum-speed figures against your room and likely use: steady background cleaning overnight or at a desk is different from temporarily increasing airflow during a pollution event.
Match low-speed capacity to your room
Room area is a starting point, not the whole sizing decision. The amount of clean air delivered at the fan speed you can tolerate matters too. If a quiet setting cannot provide enough cleaning for the room, the low decibel figure is not a useful win. Room shape, airflow paths, and how much cleaning you need also affect whether a recommendation suits your space.

What counts as a quiet noise level for an air purifier?
There is no single dBA cutoff that makes a purifier quiet for every listener or room. The five RTINGS measurements here cluster around 31–33 dBA at the lowest fan speed, but perceived loudness depends on the sound itself, distance, room acoustics, and personal sensitivity. Use those readings to compare these models under RTINGS’ test conditions, not as a promise that the purifier will be inaudible at home.
Are air purifiers with sleep mode silent?
No. Sleep mode generally reduces fan speed and dims or switches off lights; it does not mean the fan stops making sound. PureAirScout lists an example of around 24 dB for the Levoit Core 300S in sleep mode, but that model is not one of the five above, and the figure comes from a separate source and measurement protocol. It should not be directly compared with RTINGS’ dBA readings. Read PureAirScout’s separate quiet-air-purifier guide.
