The 2026 Apple TV 4K reportedly costs $299 in the United States (TechRadar also lists £299 in the UK and AU$449 in Australia). At that price, buyers reasonably expected a modern HDMI and gaming upgrade. Launch coverage says the box still tops out at 4K at 60Hz, leaving 4K/120 support and several enthusiast-focused home-theater improvements absent.
The most visible new feature is instead in the fourth-generation Siri Remote: a built-in speaker and Precision Finding through Find My can help you locate a misplaced remote. Because that remote works with older Apple TV models, existing owners can buy the useful upgrade without replacing a functioning streaming box.

What the 2026 Apple TV 4K actually adds
A locatable Siri Remote
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 coverage says the new Siri Remote includes a built-in speaker that plays an audible locating chime. Precision Finding through Apple’s Find My network provides directional help when the remote is nearby and compatible devices can detect it.

- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance

The same 4K/60 output ceiling
TechRadar’s launch discussion and review coverage report that the 2026 Apple TV 4K remains limited to 4K at 60Hz. Requests for 4K/120 output—and related enthusiast capabilities—remain unmet. A 120Hz television can still display the box’s 60Hz signal, but it will not receive 120 frames per second from this Apple TV.
Why 4K/120 matters at this price
4K/120 is most relevant to owners of 120Hz televisions, current game consoles and gaming PCs. It can provide smoother motion and lower perceived latency when the source actually renders at 120 frames per second. It also gives a premium streaming box more headroom for high-refresh interfaces and future formats.

Not every viewer needs it. Most films and television shows are mastered at lower frame rates, and a 4K/60 device remains adequate for ordinary streaming. The issue is the mismatch between a reported $299 price and the hardware ceiling enthusiasts expected from a new flagship model. Launch coverage also did not establish a broader audio or home-theater expansion that would offset the missing video capability.
Is the new Apple TV 4K worth $299?
For a first-time buyer deeply invested in Apple’s ecosystem, the answer depends on how much you value platform integration over display specifications. Apple TV remains attractive to households that want a familiar tvOS interface, Apple-device continuity and access to Apple services. Android Central characterizes the product as expensive for people outside that ecosystem, while Engadget places its pricing near the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
At $299, the 2026 model is difficult to justify as a technical upgrade for someone who already owns a recent Apple TV 4K. The unchanged 4K/60 ceiling means your television and gaming hardware may remain ahead of the box. The purchase makes more sense when replacing an older or failing streamer, or when you specifically want the new remote and are buying your first Apple TV.
Should 2022 Apple TV 4K owners upgrade?
For most 2022 owners, keeping the existing box is the rational choice if it meets your streaming needs. The launch reporting does not identify a new video-output ceiling or a comparable home-theater breakthrough that would transform everyday use.

Buy the remote instead
TechRadar reports that the 2026 Siri Remote is compatible with older Apple TV models. A 2022 owner who mainly wants the locating function can therefore purchase the separate remote, provided it is sold in their region, rather than spend $299 on an entire replacement box. The remote’s speaker supplies the audible chime, while Precision Finding supplies the directional locating feature.

This is not a claim that one device wins every category. It shows the decision Apple buyers actually face: pay flagship pricing for Apple integration and a locatable remote, or choose another streaming-device category if 4K/120 is a non-negotiable requirement. Verify current specifications and regional pricing before purchasing an alternative.
What to check before buying
- Check your display: Confirm whether your television has 120Hz inputs and whether your intended games or media sources can use them.
- Separate the remote from the box: If your current Apple TV works, investigate availability of the 2026 Siri Remote before replacing the hardware.
- Price the total setup: Compare the $299 US launch price with other devices in your region, not just the cost of the remote.
- Define your priority: Choose Apple integration and Find My convenience if those are more valuable than 4K/120; otherwise, look for a device whose specifications explicitly include the high-refresh output you need.
The practical verdict
The 2026 Apple TV 4K is an expensive refresh with one genuinely useful change: a Siri Remote that can be found by sound and Precision Finding. The streaming box itself reportedly remains a 4K/60 product, so it does not answer the clearest request from high-end television and gaming owners. New buyers who want Apple’s ecosystem may still accept that trade-off; 2022 owners should usually keep their box and buy the compatible remote if locating it is the problem they are trying to solve.
