The October Prime Day deal report is for the 2024 Kindle with 16GB: Lifehacker reported it at $103.99, down from $149.99, on October 5, 2026. That is not Amazon’s newly announced 2026 Kindle. Deal prices can change, and the report does not confirm that $103.99 is still available at checkout on October 7.
Which Kindle is just over $100?
It is the 2024 release of Amazon’s standard Kindle, with 16GB of storage. Lifehacker’s October 5, 2026 report listed the e-reader at $103.99, reduced from $149.99. Those are prices reported on that date, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price.

Amazon’s October 1 announcement introduced a different, newer 6-inch Kindle, starting at $149.99. The $103.99 deal report should not be read as a discount on that 2026 model.

The cited report warns that deal pricing and availability can change. It does not establish the live Amazon price on October 7, 2026, so check the listing and final checkout total before buying. TechRadar described the US and UK Prime Big Deal Days event as running October 6–7, 2026; the deal report’s October 5 price is time-sensitive context, not confirmation of an offer throughout the event.
#1 Best Overall
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
There is also an earlier price to keep in mind: Amazon’s June 2026 Prime Day page listed a Kindle for $84.99. That historical promotion was below the October 5 report price, so the available figures do not support calling $103.99 a record low.
How it compares with the new Kindle and Paperwhite
| Option | What is established | Price context |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 Kindle, 16GB | The compact, black-and-white entry-level e-reader in the reported deal. | Lifehacker reported $103.99, down from $149.99, on October 5, 2026. Live availability is unconfirmed. |
| 2026 6-inch Kindle | Amazon says it has 16GB, up to six weeks of battery life, book opening 30% faster than the previous release, and a flush-front design. Amazon calls it the most pocket-sized Kindle it has made. | Starts at $149.99, according to Amazon’s October 1, 2026 announcement. |
| Kindle Paperwhite | The available materials identify larger display, waterproofing, and warm light as Paperwhite features, but do not establish a complete model-by-model comparison or a current price. | Not stated in the cited materials. |
Amazon’s claims about pocketability, battery life, storage, and speed apply to the 2026 Kindle; they should not be transferred to the 2024 deal model. The practical choice is whether the lower reported price and compact basic reading experience suit you, or whether the Paperwhite’s larger display, waterproofing, and warm light matter more.

Optional page-turning accessory
Amazon lists Kindle Click for $34.99 and says it works with Kindle models from 2024 onward. It is an optional remote page-turner, not something required to read on the e-reader; check its listing for current price and availability.
