Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The twelve picks below are grouped by that logic, not ranked 1 to 12, and each names the audience and the trade-off.
These picks draw on 2026 buying guides from TechRadar, Stuff and iTechGuides, plus Apple’s and Samsung’s own comparison pages. They are not the result of a head-to-head test of all twelve watches, and battery figures come from different sources measured in different ways. Prices and stock vary by country, so check a local retailer before buying.

How to choose in five steps
- Check phone compatibility. Apple Watch needs an iPhone. OnePlus Watch 3 is reported as Android-only. Garmin’s Venu models work with Android and iOS. Some Samsung features need a Samsung phone (see below).
- Set a budget and a case size you can live with. TechRadar advises putting comfort ahead of screen size, since you need to wear the watch all day and night.
- Decide what matters more: apps and tight phone integration, or battery life and training tools.
- Check health features for your country and phone setup. Availability varies by region and software.
- Compare battery claims on like terms. A manufacturer estimate and a reviewer’s test are different measures.
The iPhone picks
Apple’s comparison page currently lists Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3. Several reviews we drew on still cover Series 11 and Ultra 3, so older models may be discounted but are no longer the newest generation.
1. Apple Watch Series 11: the everyday iPhone choice
TechRadar lists iOS compatibility, 5G, gesture controls and a stated 24-hour battery life, and treats it as a middle-ground daily watch. In PCMag’s testing, as reported by iTechGuides, it lasted 43 hours, well beyond the stated spec. Trade-off: it is still a one-to-two-day watch, not a multi-day one.

2. Apple Watch SE 3: the lower-cost Apple Watch
TechRadar’s iPhone guide includes it among its three Apple picks. Apple’s page makes clear that some features differ from the pricier models, so check the comparison tool for the ones you want.
3. Apple Watch Ultra 3: the rugged Apple option
TechRadar singles it out for outdoor use and diving, with a larger, tougher design. Trade-off: the big case suits some wrists badly. Apple now also lists an Ultra 4, so confirm which generation you are buying.
4. Apple Watch Series 12: the current-generation candidate
Apple lists Series 12 in its comparison tool. We found no substantive independent review of it, so it is included as the newest model in the line, not as a proven upgrade over Series 11. If you want the newest hardware, wait for reviews or compare against a discounted Series 11.

The Android picks
5. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8: the general Android candidate
It appears in both Stuff’s roundup and iTechGuides’ comparison. PCMag’s tested battery life, reported by iTechGuides, was 26 hours, the shortest of the four watches with test figures here. Samsung notes that some Galaxy AI features need a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account, and that certain health features carry extra requirements.
6. Google Pixel Watch 4: the Android and Fitbit candidate
Also in both Stuff’s roundup and the iTechGuides comparison. PCMag’s test, as reported by iTechGuides, measured 56 hours. That is one reviewer’s result and will vary with use.
7. OnePlus Watch 3: the long-battery Wear OS candidate
iTechGuides reports 98 hours in PCMag’s testing, the best figure of the tested models here. It is reported as Android-only, so iPhone owners should skip it.

The cross-platform battery and training picks
8. Garmin Venu X1: the training and battery candidate
TechRadar lists Android and iOS support and 5ATM water resistance. It quotes an eight-day battery estimate in one place and up to nine days with the always-on display off in another. Treat both as manufacturer-style estimates that depend on display settings.

9. Garmin Venu Sq 2: the fitness and battery value pick
iTechGuides calls it a fitness and battery option and reports up to nine days with light use. Heavy GPS use will shorten that.

10. Amazfit Active 2: the budget pick
TechRadar names it the budget option for iPhone shoppers, citing an AMOLED display, GPS, workout tracking and smartwatch basics. Expect fewer app and phone-integration extras than on an Apple Watch.

11. CMF Watch Pro 3: an additional value candidate
It is in Stuff’s 2026 comparison table. The material available does not provide enough test data to call it a winner, so consider it a low-cost option to check against current reviews.
12. TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5: the style-led luxury candidate
It also appears in Stuff’s table. We could not verify a price or a performance advantage, so choose it for looks and brand, not for specs.

Health features: what they are and are not
Treat watch health tools as wellness aids, not diagnostics. Samsung’s comparison page says: “The ECG app is not intended to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment.” Apple says its Blood Oxygen and Vitals apps are for wellness purposes only, and that sleep-apnea notifications are meant to detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea in eligible adults who have not been diagnosed. Samsung sets age, phone and app requirements for ECG and sleep-apnea features. Availability differs by country, so check both companies’ pages for your region before paying extra for a feature.
