Nick Dearman, a Texas-based Hanuman devotee and holistic health coach, drew attention online after sharing a rapid recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa on Instagram. The “better than me” line in the headlines comes from an anonymous viewer comment reproduced by news outlets—not a named interview or a measure of how all Indian viewers responded.
What is in the viral Hanuman Chalisa video?
Hindustan Times reported on October 2, 2026, that Dearman had shared the clip on Instagram the previous month. In the video, he says, “I slept in a little bit this morning so I will have to do the speed version of the Hanuman Chalisa and I would like to bring you along with me,” before reciting the hymn quickly. Hindustan Times attributes those words to Dearman.

What did viewers say?
Hindustan Times and the Times of India reproduced an anonymous comment: “He chants the Hanuman Chalisa better than me.” That remark is the source of the headline phrase. The same outlets also quoted the joke, “Dear diary, today I heard Hanuman chalisa recited by a white guy and it was actually really nice. The ancestors are confused.”
Other comments reproduced in their coverage included “You are amazing. This filled my heart with joy,” and “I’m so proud to see your devotion to Hanuman Ji.” The Times of India also reported a commenter writing “Jai Hanuman.” These are examples selected and published by the outlets; they do not establish a representative reaction among Indian viewers.

What is the Hanuman Chalisa?
The Hanuman Chalisa is a Hindu devotional hymn dedicated to Hanuman, a central figure in the Ramayana and a devotee of Rama. Hindustan Times and the Times of India credit poet-saint Tulsidas with composing it in Awadhi and describe its main body as 40 chaupais. The hymn’s religious context is the reason the video resonated with commenters expressing devotion and respect; the coverage does not establish Dearman’s specific text or how he learned it.
Who is Nick Dearman?
Indian news reports describe Dearman as Texas-based, a Hanuman devotee and a holistic health coach; one report calls him Texas-born. Those descriptions are attributed to the outlets, rather than to a separately verified profile. His clip is notable in the coverage for a rapid devotional recitation and the responses it prompted, not for a claim that he represents any broader group.
