Two ZoomEye queries run on 28 September 2026 returned 1,992 matches for title="Temporal" and 200 matches for app="Temporal". Those are index counts from a single 2026 analysis published by World Programming Systems (WPS). They do not measure how many Temporal deployments are reachable, authenticated, or vulnerable. The gap between the two numbers reflects two different matching methods, not two different populations of servers.
What each query measured
The two figures come from different kinds of matching, and the difference matters more than either total.

| Query | Matches (28 Sep 2026) | What it matches | Specificity | What it cannot show |
|---|---|---|---|---|
title="Temporal" |
1,992 | Pages whose title contains the word “Temporal” | Low. “Temporal” is an ordinary English word. | Whether the page belongs to Temporal software at all |
app="Temporal" |
200 | Hosts whose response matches a pattern the platform recognizes as belonging to the Temporal product | Higher, because it relies on a product-level recognition rule rather than a word | Reachability, authentication state, or vulnerability |
The title query and the application query should not be added together or compared as if they counted the same thing. One counts a word in a page title. The other counts a recognized product signature. The first is a broad net; the second is a narrower lead.

Why the title count is so much larger
Any site whose page title uses the word “Temporal” will match the title query, whatever software it runs. The 1,992 figure therefore tells you how often that word appears in indexed page titles, not how many Temporal servers exist. The analysis does not break the title results down by category, and the figures do not allow a false-positive rate to be calculated. Treat the difference between 1,992 and 200 as evidence that the title query is noisy, not as a measured share of unrelated pages.

Why the application fingerprint is a better lead
The application query asks whether a host responds in a way the platform associates with the Temporal product. That is closer to what an operator wants to know, but it is still an inference. Its accuracy depends on the recognition rule, and this article did not reproduce the query or check the rule against the platform’s own documentation. A fingerprint match tells you that a host looks like Temporal to the index. It does not tell you who operates the host, whether it is intended to be public, or how it is configured.
What Temporal is, and why its server matters
Temporal’s documentation describes the product in two parts. In the words of the “What is Temporal?” page (undated; accessed 7 October 2026): “A Temporal Service consists of the Temporal Server, written in Go, and a database.” The Temporal Service holds workflow state. Customer-operated Worker Processes execute the application code. Event History records workflow state and allows execution to resume after a failure.
This split explains why the Temporal Server is the component to check. Your application code runs in your Worker Processes, but the server is where workflow state is recorded and where clients connect. Whether the stored state is sensitive depends entirely on what your workflows pass in and return.
What to verify on your own deployment
The index counts are a reason to check your own systems, not a finding about any organization. The following steps use Temporal’s documented controls and make no assumptions about any indexed host.
Rank #3
- Map reachability. Identify every address on which your Temporal Server listens. Test each one from outside your intended networks using your own scanning tools. Then run the same two queries against your own address ranges in ZoomEye and compare the results with your inventory. Index results can lag behind changes and may include unrelated pages.
- Check the authorizer setting. Open the server configuration and confirm that the authorization setting is not empty. Temporal’s configuration reference states that an empty authorizer setting disables authorization and permits every request.
- Confirm authentication and transport security. Temporal’s self-hosted guide covers TLS and mutual TLS, authentication, and authorization. Confirm that each control is enabled as your security policy requires, and test a connection that omits the expected credentials to confirm it is refused.
- Review namespace boundaries. Confirm that teams and environments are separated into namespaces and that access grants match those boundaries. A single shared namespace makes it harder to limit what any one client can see.
- Review what is stored. Inventory the workflow inputs and results your applications persist through Event History, and confirm that retention and access match your data-handling policy.
A managed alternative
Temporal Cloud is a documented managed option. Choosing it shifts the operation of the server to the provider, but it does not remove the need to configure your Worker Processes and your own access controls. This article did not verify pricing, regional availability, or service terms, so those should be checked directly with Temporal before deciding.

What these counts do and do not establish
- The figures come from one 2026 analysis of ZoomEye data, dated 28 September 2026. No other statistic about Temporal deployments was found, and neither count should be extrapolated beyond that date.
- The counts describe index results only. They are not a census of live servers, a vulnerability assessment, or a test of any host’s security.
- Nothing in the reported counts shows that an indexed host lacks authentication, holds sensitive data, or can be exploited. Those questions can only be answered by examining a specific deployment’s configuration.
