Nothing says the Phone (4a) comes with a screen protector already applied, but that protector is not the same as the tempered glass used in the phone’s construction. If the fitted protector becomes scratched or you want a replacement, choose between film and tempered glass by checking exact Phone (4a) fit, fingerprint support and the trade-offs each seller claims—not by assuming either type has been tested on this model.
What comes on the Nothing Phone (4a)?
Nothing lists a pre-applied screen protector and a protective case among the Phone (4a)’s box contents in its support article about what is in the box. Separately, Nothing describes tempered glass on the phone’s front and back on its UK product page. Those are different facts: the phone’s glass construction does not establish that its supplied screen protector is tempered glass.

A T3 review published on 15 April 2026 identifies the factory-fitted protector as plastic and says the reviewer noticed scratches during two weeks of use. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a controlled durability test or evidence that every owner will see the same wear. It does give owners a reason to consider replacing the protector if theirs is scratched or no longer suits them.

Tempered glass or film: how to choose a replacement
The available sources do not compare replacement film and tempered glass protectors on the Phone (4a), and they do not validate a particular product listing. The differences below are decision factors to check, not measured results for this phone.

| Decision factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Fit and screen coverage | Confirm the listing names the Nothing Phone (4a), not the Phone (4a) Pro or another model. Check what part of the display the protector covers and whether its shape suits your case. |
| Scratch and impact protection | Compare the seller’s stated claims for the specific product. No Phone (4a)-specific comparative test establishes that film or tempered glass protects better. |
| Touch and fingerprint reader | Look for explicit Phone (4a) fingerprint-reader compatibility and installation instructions. Compatibility for either type is not established by the available evidence. |
| Clarity, glare and feel | Use the product description to check whether the protector is clear, matte or described as having a particular surface feel. These are product-specific characteristics, not guaranteed differences for every film or glass protector. |
| Installation and replacement | Check whether installation tools or multiple protectors are included, and compare the cost of replacing the specific product. No particular listing or price has been verified. |
Tempered glass and film are categories, not guarantees of performance. Treat statements on a seller’s listing as claims unless they are supported by model-specific testing; do not infer fingerprint compatibility, precise coverage or drop protection from the material name alone.
How to check a listing before buying
- Confirm the product title and compatibility details explicitly say Nothing Phone (4a). Do not rely on a listing that groups the 4a with the 4a Pro or other phones without explaining the fit.
- Check the stated screen coverage and, if you use a case, look for any case-compatibility information. The phone’s dimensions—163.8 mm high, 77.45 mm wide and 8.55 mm deep, as listed by Nothing’s Phone (4a) support category—identify the handset but do not prove a protector’s cut or fit.
- Look for a specific statement about the Phone (4a)’s fingerprint reader, then confirm the instructions do not require an unsupported assumption about setup or sensitivity. If the listing is unclear, ask the seller before ordering.
- Review the installation kit, quantity and replacement terms, along with the seller’s stated claims about scratches, impact, glare and clarity. These details vary by product.
Should you buy another case too?
Usually, a new case is optional rather than part of the screen-protector decision: Nothing lists a protective case in the box. Consider another one only if the supplied case is missing, damaged or unsuitable for how you use the phone. The reported wear on the factory-fitted screen protector does not, by itself, establish a need to replace the case.
