Temasek reported that AI-related investments represented 6% of its portfolio in 2026 and set an ambition to raise that share to as much as 15% by 2031. It is also targeting more investment in core-plus infrastructure, citing data-centre growth and electrification. The figures describe portfolio exposure and targets—not a disclosed bill for Temasek’s AI infrastructure spending.
What Temasek’s AI target means
In its 2026 Review, Temasek said AI-related exposure was 6% of portfolio value and could grow to up to 15% by 2031. The target is an ambition, not an achieved allocation or a forecast of investment returns. Temasek’s CEO briefing transcript says the AI and core-plus targets exclude TPC exposure.
Temasek reported a mark-to-market net portfolio value of S$518 billion as at 31 March 2026. That is the value of the overall portfolio, not the value of its AI holdings. The company’s reported 6.8% total shareholder return over 20 years and 7.1% over 10 years are also whole-portfolio measures; they do not indicate how AI investments performed. Where Temasek sees opportunities across the AI value chain
Temasek describes AI as a portfolio-wide theme rather than a bet limited to companies that build AI models. Its stated value chain spans five areas:

Some companies operate across several of these areas, so the categories are not necessarily separate investment buckets. Temasek’s 2026 Review: Performance & Portfolio outlines these areas.
The company also wants portfolio businesses and the wider economy to adopt AI. CEO Dilhan Pillay put that emphasis this way: “The remaining 85% of our portfolio must be focused on AI adoption for competitiveness.” The point is that Temasek’s AI strategy includes using the technology to improve existing businesses, not just owning AI-native firms. In its strategy article, Temasek says, “Long-term value from AI will come not only from advances in models, but in how AI is adopted and applied at scale, across businesses, sectors and ecosystems.”

Why infrastructure is part of the plan
AI data centres require computing capacity and supporting energy infrastructure. Temasek links data-centre growth and electrification to potential investment opportunities in power, electricity grids, renewable and nuclear energy, energy storage, and decarbonisation technologies. This is the company’s investment rationale for infrastructure exposure; it is not independent evidence that future demand or returns are assured.
Temasek reported approximately S$7.0 billion in core-plus infrastructure exposure, equal to 1% of portfolio value, as at 31 March 2026. It aims to raise that exposure to 5% by 31 March 2031. These are portfolio exposure figures and a future target, not a disclosed total for AI-related infrastructure expenditure. The 2026 Review connects the infrastructure opportunity to electrification and data-centre growth.

What the named investments do—and do not—show
Temasek’s 2026 Review identifies Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI as AI investments during the year covered. It also notes that xAI has since merged with SpaceX. These examples show investment activity, but Temasek’s disclosure does not establish the size or purchase price of its positions, their current gains or losses, or the companies’ future performance. Nor does naming them amount to an endorsement of their products.
Temasek says it takes a selective, diversified approach because the eventual sources of long-term AI value are uncertain. Its strategy spans established and vertically integrated companies, AI innovators, infrastructure, and incumbents adapting through adoption. It also says it maintains valuation discipline and recognizes that AI could disrupt existing businesses.
