Telegram’s latest Stories updates bring two features that change how people share and respond: you can repost Stories, and you can add video reactions directly to them. If you already use Stories to show quick updates, these additions make Telegram feel more interactive without pushing you toward third-party tools.
This guide covers what the features do, what you need in order to see them, and the exact steps to repost a Story or record/send a video reaction across iPhone, iPad, Android, and Telegram Desktop. It also calls out the privacy and troubleshooting details that usually trip people up.

What’s new in Telegram Stories: reposts and video reactions
Telegram Stories are built for short-lived, broadcast-style sharing. With the new capabilities, Stories become more “social” inside the Telegram ecosystem: reposts let you reshare content to your own audience, and video reactions let you respond with a clip instead of a static emoji.

Reposting takes a Story you’ve viewed and adds it to your own Stories so your contacts can see it from your account. Depending on your app version and privacy settings, the repost will typically reflect the original Story’s authoring context while appearing under your Stories flow.

Video reactions
Video reactions let you respond to a Story using a recorded video clip. Instead of just typing a reaction or tapping an emoji, you can send a more expressive response that plays in the Story’s reaction thread (or equivalent UI on your platform).
Prerequisites and what you need before trying it
You don’t need a special account type, but you do need the update and the right Stories permissions.
- Latest Telegram app: Repost and video reaction features typically appear only after updating to the most recent release for your platform.
- Stories enabled: If you’ve disabled Stories visibility for certain chats or globally, you may not see the repost/reaction controls.
- Network and media permissions: Video reactions require camera/microphone access (or at minimum camera access) depending on your OS settings.
- Supported client: Telegram Desktop support may lag slightly behind mobile in some release cycles. If you don’t see the controls on desktop, mobile may work first.
How to update Telegram so the features appear
Before troubleshooting anything else, confirm your app is current. Telegram Stories features are released server-side and client-side, and the client often gates what UI controls you’ll see.
iPhone and iPad (App Store)
- Open App Store.
- Tap your profile icon (top-right).
- Scroll to Telegram.
- If you see an Update button, tap it.
- After updating, open Telegram and check for Stories controls.
Android (Google Play)
- Open Google Play.
- Search for Telegram.
- Open the Telegram listing.
- If an Update button appears, tap it.
- Launch Telegram and check Stories.
Telegram Desktop (macOS and Windows)
- Open Telegram Desktop.
- Look for an Update prompt inside the app, or update via your OS package manager/store.
- Restart Telegram Desktop after updating.
- Re-check the Story UI for repost/reaction options.
Reposting Telegram Stories: the practical workflow
Reposting is usually tied to an option that appears under the Story viewer after you open someone’s Story. The exact wording can vary by platform and language, but the flow is consistent.
Telegram iPhone and iPad
- Open Telegram and tap the Stories row (at the top, depending on your layout).
- Tap the Story you want to repost.
- In the Story viewer, look for an action button such as Repost, Share to Stories, or a share-style icon.
- Confirm the repost when Telegram prompts you (you may be asked to add text or proceed straight to repost).
- Return to your own Stories to verify the repost appears.
Telegram Android
- Open Telegram and open the Stories bar.
- Open the Story you want to repost.
- Find the Repost control in the Story viewer (often near reaction or share actions).
- Confirm any prompt (for example, choosing whether to repost as-is or with optional caption text).
- Check your Stories to ensure the repost is published.
Telegram Desktop (macOS and Windows)
- Open Telegram Desktop.
- Open Stories and click the Story you want to repost.
- In the viewer, click the Repost option (or a share icon that leads to repost/share-to-Stories).
- Confirm the repost action in the prompt.
- Check your own Stories feed for the new entry.
Adding video reactions to Telegram Stories
Video reactions are recorded on-device, so the OS permissions and input devices matter. If you can’t record, you won’t be able to send a video reaction even if the UI shows the button.

- Open Telegram Desktop and open the target Story.
- Click the reaction area and select video reaction.
- If prompted, confirm your camera permission in macOS/Windows privacy settings.
- Record using the on-screen recorder, preview, then click Send.
Privacy, visibility, and what other people will (and won’t) see
Stories aren’t just content—they’re also visibility rules. Reposting and reactions can reveal you more clearly than a normal chat message because they attach to a public-facing Stories feed.
Reposts
Your repost is displayed as part of your Stories. People who can view your Stories will generally be able to see that you reposted someone else’s Story.
- Audience follows your Stories settings: If your Stories are limited (for example, restricted contacts), the repost visibility follows those boundaries.
- Original context still matters: The repost may carry metadata like the original author (depending on client UI and how Telegram renders the repost card).
Video reactions
Video reactions typically show up within the reaction area tied to the Story. Whether everyone who can view the Story sees the reaction, or only certain audiences, depends on your Story privacy model.
- Permission gates: If someone can’t view the Story, they can’t view reactions.
- Reactions are media: Video reactions can be affected by bandwidth and playback settings, especially on metered connections.
Limitations and edge cases you should expect
Even when features exist, they might not appear for every chat or account depending on how Telegram rolls out changes and how you’ve configured Stories.

- Feature rollout timing: Some users see Stories repost and video reactions earlier than others during staged releases.
- Desktop UI lag: Desktop clients often receive new media controls after mobile, so test on iPhone/iPad or Android if desktop doesn’t show the buttons.
- Permission blocks: If you denied camera/microphone access once, Telegram may hide the video reaction control or show a non-working recorder.
- Media restrictions: Low storage, file permission issues, or background data restrictions can prevent sending a reaction clip.
- Story availability window: If the Story expires while you’re recording or preparing a repost, Telegram may cancel the action.
Troubleshooting when reposts or video reactions don’t work
If the controls are missing or the action fails, use this checklist in order. It’s the fastest way to identify whether it’s an update issue, a permission issue, or a client/UI mismatch.
Step 1: Confirm the app is updated
Go back to your app store page and verify Telegram is at the latest version available. Then force-close and reopen Telegram.
Step 2: Check OS-level media permissions
If video reactions don’t open a camera preview or fail immediately, permissions are the most common culprit.
- iOS/iPadOS: Settings > Telegram > enable Camera and Microphone (if present).
- Android: Settings > Apps > Telegram > Permissions > enable Camera and Microphone.
- Desktop: macOS Privacy & Security and Windows Privacy settings must allow the camera for Telegram Desktop.
Step 3: Try on another platform
Send the same video reaction attempt on a different client. For example, if Desktop lacks the button but iPhone supports it, that tells you the rollout is client-specific.
Step 4: Reopen the Story and try again
Stories can expire quickly (and UI states can get stuck). Close the Story viewer completely and open it again before retrying.

Step 5: Reduce background constraints
- Turn off Battery Saver / Low Power Mode temporarily.
- Allow Telegram to run in the background if your OS restricts it.
- For Android, disable data saver for Telegram to prevent media upload failures.
Step 6: Clear cached media and restart (last-resort on mobile)
If the camera works but sending fails, try restarting the device. If it continues, review Telegram’s storage/media settings and remove locally cached media that may be corrupted.

These features are powerful, but a little intent makes them better.
- Be selective with reposts: Repost only Stories that add value to your audience. Excess reposting can dilute your own Stories.
- Keep reactions short and clear: Aim for a reaction clip that’s immediately understandable—face in frame, steady audio if possible.
- Check your audience: If your Stories are visible to a broad set of contacts, assume reactions become visible to that same audience.
- Use Wi‑Fi when sending video: Video uploads are more sensitive to unstable connections.
Alternatives if Stories features are unavailable
If you can’t find the repost or video reaction controls, you still have options depending on what’s missing.
If repost controls aren’t showing
- Share the Story using any available share option (if offered) and publish manually to your own Stories using your existing Stories composer.
- Wait for the staggered rollout and check updates again later.
If video reactions aren’t available
- Use standard reactions (emoji or text) if Telegram offers them.
- Send a normal message with a short video clip in the chat, then attach it to the conversation instead of a Story reaction thread.
- Retry after granting camera/microphone permissions and restarting the app.
FAQ about Telegram repost Stories and video reactions
Do I need to enable Stories for every contact to repost?
You don’t usually need per-contact toggles for reposting, but you do need Stories visibility enabled for the audience who can view your Stories. Reposts follow your Stories privacy rules.

Why don’t I see the video reaction button on Telegram Desktop?
Desktop often receives Stories media features after mobile. If you can add video reactions on iPhone/iPad or Android but not on Desktop, it’s likely a rollout or client UI limitation rather than a settings problem.

Can I record a video reaction if I denied camera permissions earlier?
No—without camera access the recorder typically won’t work. Re-enable Camera and Microphone permissions in your OS settings, then reopen Telegram and retry.
Will my video reaction be visible to people who can’t view the original Story?
Normally, reactions are only visible to users who can view the Story. If a person can’t access the Story based on privacy rules, they generally won’t see reactions either.
What should I do if reposting says it failed?
Update Telegram, reopen the Story viewer, and check network connectivity. If it still fails, try the same action on another platform (mobile vs Desktop) to confirm whether it’s a client-specific issue.

Telegram’s Stories reposting and video reactions make Stories more than passive viewing—you can share what you found and respond with actual video without leaving Telegram. The main requirements are simple: update the app and ensure camera/microphone permissions are granted.
If the buttons don’t show up, don’t assume it’s broken. Test on another platform, verify your app version, and work through permission and network checks first—those are the usual causes.
