What is Shredder’s Revenge?
Developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge launched on June 16, 2022. Dotemu lists versions for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The premise is simple: move through side-scrolling stages, fight waves of familiar foes, and keep advancing. That simplicity is a design choice, not a promise of a sprawling action-RPG or a technical fighting game.
How does the combat hold up?
Easy to pick up, intentionally uncomplicated
The game’s control language is approachable. Players can start attacking and responding to enemies without first learning a long sequence of specialist inputs. Character-specific moves and combos add some distinction, but the emphasis remains on readable, immediate brawling rather than mastering a large catalogue of techniques.

That makes the early action welcoming, especially for casual groups and players returning to the genre. The trade-off is that players who want to build intricate strings or continually discover mechanical layers may find the combat vocabulary too limited. The game is at its best when its compact controls meet varied pressure, not when judged as a deep combo laboratory.
Enemy encounters give the system room to breathe
MeriStation’s 2022 review reports that the straightforward, agile controls initially seemed basic to its reviewer, but tougher and more varied enemies made the combat more interesting. That is one critic’s response rather than a universal measure, but it points to the game’s central strength: encounters can ask more of a simple moveset as enemy behavior and density change. MeriStation’s review also praises the changing settings and multiplayer energy.

Do the characters and stages add variety?
Distinct character skills give players a reason to choose different members of the Turtles’ world, while changing locations keep a campaign from feeling like one long, visually identical street fight. The pixel art and animation lean into the licensed setting, but their value is not only recognition: expressive movement and clear action help make crowded fights easy to follow.

The publisher’s official framing emphasizes character-specific skills and combos, and a New York-to-Dimension-X journey. MeriStation likewise singled out the changing environments. Together, these elements provide welcome shifts in pace and presentation, though they do not transform the game into a highly varied combat genre; the core loop remains beat ’em up action.

Is co-op the best way to play?
Co-op suits the game’s quick, chaotic rhythm. Having friends on screen makes the brawling more lively, and the straightforward controls lower the barrier for a group with mixed experience. Solo play remains a supported way to play, but players looking for a social arcade-style session are especially well matched to it.
The player cap depends on the platform and listing. The PlayStation Store listing says it can be played alone or with up to four players simultaneously. That is the stated cap on the PlayStation page; do not assume the same number applies to every platform or mode.

What content is included, and what does Dimension Shellshock add?
Keep the base campaign, downloadable content, and free updates separate when deciding what to buy. Dotemu says the Dimension Shellshock expansion adds Survival Mode. The publisher also announced a free color-palette update for all owners of the base game. Those additions broaden the offering, but the available information here does not establish current prices, bundle contents, or whether a particular store edition includes the expansion. Which platforms can you play it on?
Dotemu’s press kit lists Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Is Shredder’s Revenge worth it?
It is worth considering if you want an easy-to-enter, polished-feeling arcade brawler with recognizable characters, lively presentation, and the option to play with friends. Its strongest case is the way varied enemies, stage changes, and cooperative play give a modest moveset momentum. Its main caveat is equally clear: accessibility comes with less mechanical depth than players looking for elaborate combo systems may want.
The game also had a notable launch: Dotemu reported that it sold more than one million copies within one week of release in a July 2022 announcement. That is a dated launch milestone, not a current sales total or a measure of how well the game will fit any individual player. Dotemu’s July 2022 announcement records the milestone.
