TechCrunch Disrupt 2026: What to expect from Blackstone’s Jas Khaira on building AI giants

TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 has scheduled Jas Khaira, Global Head of Blackstone N1, for a 30-minute Builders Stage conversation about how AI companies can move from rapid early growth to durable, category-defining businesses. The session is scheduled for October 13–15 at Moscone West in San Francisco, but Khaira’s remarks are not yet available: the published material is a preview and agenda released before the event.

When and where is the Jas Khaira session?

TechCrunch lists “Building the Next Generation of AI Giants” on the Builders Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. The event runs October 13–15, 2026, at Moscone West in San Francisco, according to TechCrunch’s October 2 preview. The agenda lists the session from 11:10 to 11:40 a.m.; it does not specify a time zone.

What is the conversation expected to cover?

The preview and agenda frame the discussion around four connected questions:

  • What Blackstone looks for in category-defining AI businesses.
  • How founders should choose and sequence financing as a company scales.
  • How to distinguish durable companies from those showing only early momentum.
  • How compute, data centers and other infrastructure can change an AI company’s capital requirements.

The central question in the preview is what separates AI companies “built to last” from companies that are simply growing fast. The agenda describes AI startups as scaling faster and demanding more capital than previous generations, but that sentence is TechCrunch event copy—not a quotation from Khaira.

Why infrastructure makes AI financing different

TechCrunch’s preview argues that an AI company’s funding needs may extend beyond software development, hiring and customer acquisition. Training or serving models can require access to substantial compute, while data-center capacity and related infrastructure can create additional long-term commitments. The article presents this as the event’s framing, not as a quantified market-wide conclusion.

That framing makes the financing discussion broader than a conventional venture round. A founder may need to consider the timing of equity, debt, strategic capital and infrastructure partnerships alongside product milestones. The available sources do not establish which instruments Khaira will recommend or any specific investment criteria he will disclose.

Two transactions highlighted in the preview

To illustrate the range of AI-related capital commitments, TechCrunch cites two examples. They should not be read as market totals, valuations, return forecasts or evidence of comparative investment quality.

Example Context described by TechCrunch Announced amount and structure
Neysa Indian AI infrastructure company Up to $600 million in primary equity from Blackstone and co-investors; the preview says Neysa planned to raise an additional $600 million in debt financing
Ode with Anthropic AI implementation company created through a joint venture $1.5 billion in joint-venture backing; TechCrunch names Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs and others in connection with the venture

These figures and descriptions come from the TechCrunch event preview. The Neysa figure concerns primary equity in an infrastructure business, while the Ode with Anthropic figure concerns joint-venture backing for an implementation company; the sources provide no comparable valuation, ownership percentage, terms or performance data.

What “built to last” means for founders attending

The published material does not define a test for durability, and it does not report Khaira’s answers. Founders can nevertheless use the session’s framing to listen for concrete distinctions between temporary demand and a defensible business:

Demand that survives changing model conditions

Does customer demand remain when model prices, capabilities or suppliers change, or is growth tied to a short-lived technical advantage?

Economics that include infrastructure

Can the company explain margins and cash needs after accounting for compute, storage, networking and deployment costs—not just software and sales expenses?

A financing plan matched to milestones

Which capital source funds the next stage, what milestone unlocks it, and how does the plan limit avoidable dilution or refinancing risk?

A repeatable path beyond early adopters

Are deployments expanding across customers and use cases, with measurable retention and implementation capacity, or is reported momentum concentrated in a small number of launches?

These are practical questions for evaluating the theme of the session, not statements attributed to Khaira or Blackstone.

What is known—and what is not yet known

  • Known: Khaira is scheduled to appear as Global Head of Blackstone N1 in a 30-minute Builders Stage session.
  • Known: the preview focuses on investment criteria, scaling finance, infrastructure needs and the difference between early traction and staying power.
  • Known: TechCrunch uses the Neysa and Ode with Anthropic transactions as examples of AI-related capital activity.
  • Not yet known: Khaira’s actual comments, any new figures he may present, his specific investment framework, or whether he will endorse a particular financing structure.

Because the session had not taken place when the preview was published on October 2, 2026, reports of what Khaira “said” would go beyond the available evidence. Readers should treat the agenda and preview as advance event information until an on-stage account or transcript is published.
