The Ganges Grandmasters were named champions, and Couchbase says it will continue as a partner in Season 5. The technology side is still at the discussion stage: the announcement describes possible fan-engagement work, not a delivered product. The source is a company-provided press release (attributed to VMPL) republished by Business Standard on October 5, 2026, not independent reporting.

How the competition is structured
The league mixes elite men, women and young prodigies in the same team. With six boards in play at once and equal weight per game, every squad member’s result matters equally to the team total, so a Prodigy’s game is worth as much as an Icon’s. The release gives no further rules, such as round format or tiebreaks, so they are not covered here.
