Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Verdict: TDM Neo is a useful hybrid for people who regularly switch between private listening and sharing audio in a room. Its earcups twist together and turn the headphones into a compact Bluetooth speaker, without re-pairing a second device. Early listening reports describe enjoyable sound, but no independent source cited here provides standardized frequency-response, distortion, loudness or controlled comparison data. At $249 in the US, Neo is best understood as a convenience-focused niche product rather than a proven audiophile upgrade.
What TDM Neo actually does
Neo uses four 40mm drivers: two face inward for headphone listening and two face outward for speaker mode. When the earcups are twisted so their outer surfaces meet, the outward-facing drivers play into the room. Separate amplification and EQ profiles are intended to let each arrangement be tuned for its different job.

The companion app can assign an action to the twist: switch playback, pause or resume, power the unit, or do nothing until you use a physical control. That flexibility matters because an automatic mode change is convenient in a hotel room, while accidental switching could be irritating in a bag.
Neo supports Bluetooth 6.0 with multipoint, USB-C charging, a 3.5mm input, physical controls, app-based EQ, firmware updates and a Find My feature. It uses passive isolation only; there is no active noise cancellation.

How good does Neo sound?
The available reviews are positive, but they are listening impressions rather than laboratory measurements. Gadget Flow described the headphone presentation as “clean, easy to listen to and comfortable over long sessions.” After a one-week test, ZDNET reported dynamic sound, controlled bass, present mids and enjoyable highs, giving the product an overall rating of 3.0 out of 5 (“Good”). TechRadar’s CES trial also found apparent bass depth, while noting that the session was brief.
“Ses quatre haut-parleurs de 40 mm et ses deux haut-parleurs de 5 W délivrent un son dynamique avec des basses bien maîtrisées, des médiums bien présents et des aigus agréables.” — Jada Jones, ZDNET France, October 9, 2026.
Those descriptions support “pleasant for ordinary listening,” not a claim that Neo is objectively balanced, audiophile-grade or superior to dedicated headphones. The searched coverage does not establish standardized frequency response, total harmonic distortion, maximum loudness or a controlled comparison with a conventional headphone and Bluetooth speaker. Speaker-mode sound quality is also not documented with independent measurements.

Where the twist is genuinely useful
One device for private and shared listening
You can move from headphones to close-range room listening without carrying or pairing a separate speaker. That is practical at a desk, in a hotel room, on a picnic blanket or when several people want to hear the same track briefly.
Separate drivers suit the two modes
Neo does not rely on one driver set to work both against your ears and facing outward. The dedicated inward and outward drivers, plus separate amplification and EQ profiles, are a more credible design than simply exposing the headphone drivers to the room.

Useful everyday controls
Multipoint, physical buttons, a wired input and configurable twist behavior make Neo more than a demonstration gadget. The replaceable battery module and replaceable cushions also provide a maintenance path that many sealed headphones lack.
Trade-offs that matter before buying
It is heavy and lacks ANC
At about 340g, Neo is comparatively heavy for headphones. Passive isolation cannot provide the low-frequency reduction of active noise cancellation, so frequent flyers, commuters and office users may prefer a lighter ANC model even if they never need speaker mode.
The hinge has no long-term proof yet
Repeated twisting is the central mechanical feature, but long-term hinge durability has not been validated in the available coverage. TechRadar raised the possibility of wear from repeated motion, and another guide described durability as untested. Treat the hinge as an unresolved ownership risk rather than assuming it will match a conventional fixed headband.

Speaker mode is for nearby sharing
Neo is designed for close-range use, such as a desk, hotel room or picnic blanket. The available evidence does not establish that it can fill a large room or replace a dedicated portable speaker at a party.
Who should buy TDM Neo?
- Good fit: travelers, students, hotel-room listeners and anyone who repeatedly switches between solo listening and small-group sharing.
- Consider alternatives: buyers who prioritize ANC, low weight, proven hinge longevity or independently measured audio performance.
- Check before ordering: the current price, speaker-battery specification and availability of the replacement battery kit.
A conventional headphone plus a small Bluetooth speaker may be cheaper or better suited to a particular listener, but the available sources do not provide a controlled price-performance comparison. Make that a shopping calculation based on your existing gear and how often you will use the twist function, not a measured conclusion about Neo’s value.
Bottom line on the sound claim
TDM Neo’s twist-to-speaker transformation is real and useful, and early listeners generally enjoyed the headphone sound. The “they don’t sound good” framing is therefore too absolute as a description of those impressions, but it is fair as a warning against treating marketing or short demos as proof of high-fidelity performance. Buy Neo for the convenience of two listening modes; choose another design if measured sound, ANC, light weight or established durability is your first priority.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can TDM Neo switch from headphones to speaker without re-pairing?
Yes. Twisting the earcups changes the listening mode on the same device, and the app lets you configure what that gesture does.
Does TDM Neo have active noise cancellation?
No. It provides passive isolation only.
Is the replacement battery available?
The official replacement kit was listed at $29.95, but stock was reported sold out on October 11, 2026. Availability can change.
