The strongest independent evidence applies to just one: RTINGS says it bought and tested the 85-inch 85RM9L, and cautions that its review is valid only for that size because the variants have different advertised brightness and dimming-zone counts. Its reviewer praises the tested TV’s overall performance and color, while flagging color cross-talk as a limitation. The larger models have higher advertised specifications, but those figures are not independent test results.
What the independent review establishes
RTINGS’ review, dated September 4, 2026 and updated through October 2, 2026, covers the 85-inch 85RM9L only. The reviewer reports excellent overall performance and fantastic colors, but also identifies color cross-talk: in some scenes, saturated colors can affect nearby colors, including whites. That is a reviewer-reported caveat, not a claim that every scene will show the effect.

RTINGS explicitly limits the review’s validity to the tested 85-inch model because advertised brightness and zone counts differ across sizes. Its findings should not be treated as hands-on results for the 98RM9L or 115RM9L. Read RTINGS’ RM9L review.
How the 85-, 98- and 115-inch models differ
TCL’s North American product page presents all three sizes. The figures below are advertised specifications reproduced by RTINGS; the brightness values are not independently measured peak-brightness results.

The increasing zone and brightness figures are reasons to compare the variants, not proof that the larger models produce a better measured picture. Consider viewing distance and room width alongside screen size, and verify the exact model’s current price, stock, cabinet dimensions and delivery arrangements before ordering. TCL’s RM9L product page lists the family; specifications and availability can change.
What RGB Mini LED means for this TV
TCL describes the RM9L as using dedicated red, green and blue LEDs in its backlight. Its April 2026 announcement also names a CSOT UltraColor Filter, Super RGB Color Control, a 30-bit × 3 backlight controller, an Enhanced Halo Control System, a WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel and a TSR AI Pro Processor. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent measurements of picture quality.
Rank #2
- 4K UltraHD QLED color: Quantum Dot technology delivers over a billion vibrant, true-to-life shades in every scene
- HDR PRO+: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 & HLG for enhanced contrast, accurate color, and fine detail across every format
- Dolby Atmos + DTS:X: Full spatial audio support across both major formats - Dolby Atmos and DTS:X/DTS Virtual:X - for broader soundbar and content compatibility
- Auto Game Mode (ALLM) + Game Bar: Automatic low-latency switching plus an on-screen overlay to fine-tune settings without leaving the game
- Motion Rate 240 with MEMC: Best-in-class motion clarity for fast sports and action, double the motion rating of typical competing QLEDs, for an ultra-crisp, blur-free picture
The independent review’s reported color strength is a more useful buying signal than the technology names alone, but its cross-talk caveat matters if you are particularly sensitive to color artifacts. TCL also announced that Dolby Vision 2 Max would arrive through a future over-the-air update. The available product information does not establish whether that update has shipped, so check the exact model’s software and current feature status rather than assuming it is available.

The sheet also lists audio passthrough for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Audio by Bang & Olufsen, and optional wireless subwoofer and Dolby Atmos FlexConnect speakers. RTINGS notes that the RM9L lacks the forward-facing speaker bar found on the X11L and that bass felt significantly more limited in its demonstration. If built-in sound is important, listen to the set in person if possible; external audio is an option, but verify compatibility for the specific equipment you intend to use. TCL support can help confirm model-specific details.

| 98RM9L | 140.4 lb | 600 × 400 |

For the 115-inch model, the sheet additionally lists 220 lb with stand, a package weight of 505.5 lb, and dimensions of 101.0 × 57.9 × 2.2 inches without stand. Before purchase, measure the route from delivery point to room, check that the wall structure and selected mount can support the specific TV, and arrange suitable help for handling. The listed VESA pattern is not a statement that any particular third-party mount is compatible or adequately rated.
Price: launch MSRPs are not current street prices
TCL’s April 2026 North American launch announcement listed MSRPs of $7,999.99 for the 85-inch model, $9,999.99 for the 98-inch model and $29,999.99 for the 115-inch model. These are launch prices, not confirmation of current retail pricing. When accessed, TCL’s product page displayed $4,999.99 for the 85-inch model alongside a crossed-out $7,999.99 figure; page prices and sale labels are volatile. The available information does not establish current prices for the 98- or 115-inch sets. Check live listings, size-specific stock, delivery and installation costs before comparing value. TCL’s North American announcements.
Is the TCL RM9L worth buying?
The 85RM9L is the best-supported choice in this family if you want a very large TV with a strong reviewer-reported color presentation, extensive gaming and HDR features, and you are comfortable with the cross-talk caveat and the price. The 98- and 115-inch models may suit rooms where their larger screens and higher advertised brightness and zone counts are relevant, but the cited independent review does not establish how they perform in practice.
Think about your room, preferred screen size, tolerance for possible color artifacts, installation constraints and budget. RTINGS suggests some viewers may be better served by a standard Mini LED set or an OLED depending on viewing conditions; that is comparative guidance, not a universal verdict. The case for the RM9L is strongest when its RGB-Mini LED color presentation and size options matter enough to justify its cost and practical demands.
