The TCL QM7L is a 2026 mid-range 4K TV family built around Mini-LED local dimming and Super Quantum Dot color. It has the brightness, contrast features and gaming support to suit a wide range of rooms, but it is not an automatic pick for every gamer: RTINGS reports slow pixel response in its dedicated gaming mode, which can cause motion blur. The other key buying caveat is connectivity: just two of its four HDMI ports are specified for 4K at 144Hz.
What is the TCL QM7L?
The QM7L is TCL’s 2026 mid-range SQD Mini-LED television, replacing the QM7K. RTINGS places it above the QM6L and below the QM8L in TCL’s lineup. The family includes five size-specific models: 55QM7L, 65QM7L, 75QM7L, 85QM7L and 98QM7L. The European C7L is described by RTINGS as the same hardware with slightly different tuning, so its test results may not transfer exactly.

This review draws on independent reviews and TCL’s specification sheet; it is not a first-hand test. RTINGS bought and tested the 65-inch model and says its results also apply to the other listed sizes, while noting that zone counts vary slightly and brightness may differ by size. Tom’s Guide tested a 75-inch sample. Those distinctions matter when interpreting measured performance.

How bright is the QM7L, and what picture features does it offer?
TCL’s specification sheet advertises up to 3,000 nits of peak HDR brightness and up to 2,100+ discrete local-dimming zones. Those are manufacturer maximum claims, not independent measurements or guarantees for every size. Tom’s Guide measured 2,270 nits in HDR Filmmaker Mode on a 10% window and 723 nits fullscreen on its 75-inch test sample. The reviewer’s table also reports 90.28% Rec. 2020 coverage. These results belong to that review’s sample and methodology; they should not be treated as specifications for every QM7L.

It also includes Filmmaker Mode and IMAX Enhanced. RTINGS describes the set as bright, with excellent black levels and vibrant colors, and considers it suitable for movie viewing in both bright and dark rooms.
Is the QM7L good for gaming?
On paper, the QM7L has useful gaming features: a 144Hz native refresh rate, VRR, ALLM and TCL’s Game Accelerator 288, Auto Game Mode and Game Bar. Tom’s Guide reports support for FreeSync Premium Pro, VRR and ALLM, and measured 9.4 milliseconds of input latency on its test sample. That latency result is from Tom’s Guide’s methodology, not a promised figure for every size or setup.

The important counterpoint is motion. RTINGS reports very slow pixel response in dedicated gaming mode, producing more motion blur than the previous QM7K. That finding does not mean every game or viewer will be affected equally, but it is a meaningful caveat for fast-moving play. If you prioritize crisp motion above brightness and contrast, consider this reported weakness alongside the favorable latency and feature list.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOnly two HDMI ports support 4K at 144Hz
TCL lists four HDMI inputs, but their capabilities differ. HDMI 1 and 2 support 4K at 144Hz; HDMI 3 and 4 support 4K at 60Hz, with HDMI 4 also providing eARC. If you have multiple high-refresh devices, such as a gaming PC and more than one console, plan which device will use each port before buying. A receiver or soundbar using eARC will occupy HDMI 4.

Which QM7L size should you choose?
Choose based on your viewing distance, available wall or furniture space, budget and exact model number. TCL’s listed screen classes are 55, 65, 75, 85 and 98 inches; the corresponding viewable diagonals are 54.6, 64.5, 74.5, 84.6 and 97.5 inches. TechRadar’s release coverage labels its largest listing as 100 inches, while TCL’s specification sheet and the model naming here identify a 98QM7L. Do not assume those labels are interchangeable: confirm the model number on the product listing in your market.
| Model | Screen class | Viewable diagonal | Dimensions with stand (W × H × D) | Weight with stand |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55QM7L | 55 inches | 54.6 inches | 48.3 × 29.9 × 10.6 inches | 32.0 lb |
| 65QM7L | 65 inches | 64.5 inches | 56.8 × 34.2 × 14.5 inches | 43.9 lb |
| 75QM7L | 75 inches | 74.5 inches | 65.6 × 39.2 × 14.5 inches | 58.6 lb |
| 85QM7L | 85 inches | 84.6 inches | 74.4 × 44.3 × 14.9 inches | 77.6 lb |
| 98QM7L | 98 inches | 97.5 inches | 85.8 × 50.6 × 16.5 inches | 121.9 lb |
Dimensions and weights are TCL’s listed figures with the stand attached. Use them for space planning, then confirm the requirements for your particular installation. The specification sheet does not state a VESA mounting pattern, so check the exact model’s documentation before purchasing a wall mount.

What else is included, and what should you check?
The smart platform is Google TV. TCL lists hands-free voice control, a backlit voice remote, Wi-Fi 5 and audio by Bang & Olufsen. The sheet also specifies one Ethernet input, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, optical digital audio and a one-year limited warranty. It lists ATSC 1.0, NTSC and Clear QAM tuner capabilities. TechRadar reports ATSC 3.0, which conflicts with TCL’s specification sheet; verify tuner support against the documentation for the exact regional model rather than relying on that claim.
How much does the TCL QM7L cost?
Prices vary by market, size, retailer and date. At the time its page was accessed in 2026, TCL Canada listed these prices in Canadian dollars; the 55-inch page showed “Sold out.” These are page observations, not current quotes or stock guarantees.
| Model size | TCL Canada page price (CAD, accessed 2026) |
|---|---|
| 55-inch | C$999.99; page showed sold out |
| 65-inch | C$1,299.99 |
| 75-inch | C$1,499.99 |
| 85-inch | C$1,999.99 |
| 98-inch | C$2,999.99 |
TechRadar’s April 2026 U.S. release coverage listed launch prices of $999.99 for 55 inches, $1,299.99 for 65 inches, $1,499.99 for 75 inches, $1,999.99 for 85 inches and $2,999.99 for its listing labeled 100 inches. These are launch prices, not current U.S. offers, and its largest-size label differs from TCL’s 98QM7L naming. Check current local listings by model number before comparing prices.
Should you buy the TCL QM7L?
The QM7L is a strong candidate if you want a bright, colorful Mini-LED TV with local dimming, broad HDR-format support and high-refresh gaming features. Independent reviews praise its brightness and picture, while the measured 75-inch sample produced substantial HDR-window brightness. The decision is less straightforward if clear motion in fast games is your top priority, or if you need more than two 4K/144Hz inputs. Compare the exact size and local price, check your port needs, and weigh RTINGS’ motion-blur finding against the set’s other strengths.
