Choose based on your TV, connections and listening priorities: the TCL’s published specifications emphasize three HDMI 2.1 ports and claimed 4K/144 Hz video transmission, while Samsung brings Q-Symphony for compatible Samsung TVs and a Q990F with independent hands-on listening coverage.
TCL Q95K vs Samsung HW-Q990F: what is the main difference?
The clearest distinction is in their documented features, not a proven sound-quality ranking. TCL’s global product page describes an 11.1.4-channel system with a wireless subwoofer, four up-firing channels, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and three HDMI 2.1 ports. Samsung’s Canadian page describes an 11.1.4 system with wireless rear speakers and subwoofer, two HDMI inputs and one eARC output, plus features such as Q-Symphony.

Those specifications come from different manufacturers and markets; they do not establish equal measurement conditions or comparable performance. A hands-on review of the Samsung offers listening observations, but no matched independent comparison with the Q95K is established here. Treat channel counts, driver counts and claimed output power as specifications—not a substitute for listening in your own room.
Which is better for Dolby Atmos?
Both manufacturers describe their systems as 11.1.4-channel and list Dolby Atmos support. TCL also lists DTS:X and describes four up-firing channels; Samsung lists wireless Dolby Atmos and includes two wireless rear speakers. The shared format support does not establish that one produces a more convincing Atmos effect than the other.

TechRadar’s July 2025 hands-on review tested the Q990F with a Samsung S95F across movies, music and gaming. In that setup, the reviewer described an immersive presentation, tightly controlled bass, accurately placed effects and clear vocals. Those are observations about the Q990F in one review setup—not a controlled comparison against the TCL.
What does the TCL Q95K offer?
Sound system and published specifications
TCL describes the Q95K as having 11 main channels, one wireless subwoofer and four up-firing channels. Its product page lists 22 independent sound units, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, audio co-customized with Bang & Olufsen, a dual-driver force-cancelling subwoofer, 1420 W maximum output and a 600 W subwoofer. These are TCL’s claims; it says laboratory results may vary with environment and equipment.

- CERTIFIED REFURBISHED: This manufacturer-refurbished unit shows limited (if any) wear and has been fully tested to deliver the same reliable, like-new performance. It arrives with all essential components and is backed by a 90-day warranty for your peace of mind.
TCL also lists a 30 Hz low-frequency extension, a 20 kHz upper-frequency figure and driver distortion below 1%. It describes a “2x” smoother frequency-response curve than an industry standard, but the comparison standard is not defined sufficiently to interpret that claim independently. These figures should not be treated as directly comparable measured performance.
HDMI and video routing
TCL specifies three HDMI 2.1 ports and video transmission up to 4K/144 Hz with VRR, as well as uncompressed Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio transmission. It also lists USB media playback and optical input. TCL calls 48 Gbps a theoretical HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and says actual performance can depend on connected devices.

For a console or PC setup, check the regional model’s port allocation and the manuals for both the soundbar and TV before deciding where to connect sources. The published support figure alone does not establish how every device combination will behave.
Does the Q990F include rear speakers?
Yes. Samsung’s Canadian product page says the HW-Q990F includes two up-firing wireless rear speakers and a subwoofer. “Wireless” describes their audio connection; it does not mean every component can be installed without power access. Plan locations and check the setup documentation for the exact installation.

Q-Symphony is the Samsung-TV-specific feature: Samsung says it requires a compatible Samsung TV, and support depends on the exact model. The Q990F’s basic soundbar operation is not described as requiring a Samsung television. For a non-Samsung TV, check the TV’s available audio connection and the soundbar’s supported input; do not count on Q-Symphony.

| Rear-speaker dimensions | TechRadar lists 129.5 × 201.3 × 140.4 mm for the rear units. |

Which flagship soundbar should you choose?
Choose the Samsung if its ecosystem and review evidence matter most
- You own a Samsung TV model confirmed to support Q-Symphony and want that feature.
- You want the included two-rear-speaker system and subwoofer, and can accommodate their placement and power needs.
- You value having independent hands-on listening observations for the Q990F, while recognizing they are not a head-to-head result.
Choose the TCL if its listed connections match your setup
- You need the three HDMI 2.1 ports TCL specifies or are interested in its claimed 4K/144 Hz with VRR support.
- You want the Q95K’s stated 11.1.4 architecture, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, and can confirm local availability, warranty and service support.
- You are comfortable making the decision without an established independent Q95K-versus-Q990F listening test.
Before choosing either, compare live local prices and stock, confirm the exact regional model and support terms, and check how your TV and source devices should be connected. No current price or inventory comparison is established here, so neither model can be called cheaper today.
