The TCL NXTPAPER 14 is a 14.3-inch Android tablet built around a matte, anti-glare color display with three viewing modes for reading, comics and everyday use. Its generous 3:2 screen and 256GB storage make it appealing for documents, books and recorded classes, but at 760g it is not a comfortable small handheld tablet. The mid-range Helio G99, 60Hz screen and review-era software-support promise also temper the appeal. It makes most sense if the display is the reason you want this tablet—and if the local price and bundle are right.
What is the TCL NXTPAPER 14?
It is a large Android tablet with TCL’s NXTPAPER 3.0 display technology. The screen remains a color IPS LCD; Ink Paper is a software viewing mode intended to make reading feel more like using an e-reader, not an e-ink panel. TCL offers three modes: Ink Paper, Color Paper and Regular. TCL’s European product page describes Ink Paper for long documents, articles and books, Color Paper for comics, manga and magazines, and Regular for streaming and video calls.

The main trade-off is straightforward: you get a large matte screen designed to cut reflections, but you also carry a substantial tablet with a conventional 60Hz display and mid-range processing hardware.
Display: the main reason to consider it
The 14.3-inch IPS LCD has a 2400 × 1600 resolution, a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 60Hz refresh rate, according to TCL Canada’s specifications. The taller 3:2 shape is useful for reading and working with documents, while the matte surface is meant to reduce glare compared with a glossy tablet screen.
#1 Best Overall
- Tablet, Drawing Pad, Digital Notebook & Musician Tablet – All-in-One: The TCL NXTPAPER 14 combines creativity, productivity, and entertainment in a single device. Its 14.3" 2.4K screen and 4096-level T-PEN stylus make it easy for students, artists, musicians, and everyday users to draw, take notes, read, view sheet music, and enjoy media
- Paper-Like Display for Eye Comfort: Featuring NXTPAPER 3.0 technology, the display reduces glare, filters blue light, and supports DC dimming for comfortable, extended viewing. The Eye Care Assistant adjusts brightness and color temperature automatically and reminds breaks to reduce eye strain
- Seamless 3-in-1 Display Modes: With the NXTPAPER Key, the TCL NXTPAPER 14 tablet lets you switch display modes effortlessly. Standard Mode is crisp for everyday tasks, Color Paper Mode brings comics and digital art to life, and Ink Paper Mode provides a natural reading and writing experience
- Powerful Performance & Multi-Window Productivity: Powered by MediaTek Helio G99 and Android 15, TCL electronics tablets provide 256GB storage and 8GB RAM, plus 8GB expandable memory for smooth multitasking and study or creative apps. Supports screen mirroring, extended display, floating windows, and split-screen. Note: Built-in storage only; microSD not supported
- Large Battery with Fast & Reverse Charge: Power through your day with the TCL NXTPAPER 14 Android tablet’s 10,000mAh battery—fully recharged in about 2–3 hours under optimal conditions with 33W fast charging. Reverse charging lets you power your phone or earbuds anytime. Note: Charger not included
TCL also describes low-blue-light filtering, automatic brightness and color-temperature adjustment, DC dimming and an eye-care reminder assistant. Those are manufacturer features and comfort claims; they do not establish that the tablet prevents eye strain or protects vision. If you are sensitive to display brightness, note that Tech Advisor’s December 2024 review listed a dim display among its drawbacks. A matte surface can reduce reflections, but it does not guarantee a bright or vivid image in every environment.
For video and colorful content, Regular mode preserves the tablet’s conventional color-screen role. The three modes give you options for different tasks, but they do not change the screen into electronic paper: expect a backlit color LCD, not the appearance or behavior of a dedicated e-ink reader.
Performance, storage and note-taking
TCL lists a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 8GB of physical RAM, an option to add up to 8GB of virtual RAM, and 256GB of storage. Tech Advisor’s review found normal app use generally competent, with occasional hesitations and delays in some widgets. That is a reasonable fit for reading, browsing, video playback and ordinary productivity, but it is not a performance-led tablet. With a 60Hz screen and this mid-range platform, it is not the right pick if high-refresh gaming or especially fluid animation is a priority.

Virtual RAM is an allocation of storage used to supplement memory; it should not be treated as equivalent to having 16GB of physical RAM.
Is it suitable for university notes?
The large screen can give lecture slides, reading material and handwritten notes room to share the display, and TCL names its T-Pen as an optional accessory. However, the exact tablet package varies by country and retailer, and the available product information does not establish a third-party stylus compatibility list. If handwritten notes are central to your decision, confirm that the listing includes or supports the precise T-Pen you intend to use before buying; do not assume a generic capacitive stylus provides the same experience.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery life and charging
TCL specifies a 10,000mAh battery and 33W PD charging on its European product page. In Tech Advisor’s 2024 PCMark battery test, the tablet lasted 7 hours and 44 minutes. That is one review’s lab result, not a promised daily runtime: screen brightness, mode, connectivity and workload all affect endurance. The review characterized battery life as average and also reported reverse charging and observations with the supplied charger.
Size, weight and everyday handling
The tablet measures approximately 322.4 × 222 × 6.95mm and weighs 760g, according to TCL Canada and Tech Advisor. That is a large, fairly thin slab, but the weight matters more than the thickness when holding it for a long reading session. Tech Advisor found it unwieldy for prolonged portrait use. It is better suited to a desk, a stand, or supported use on a lap than to one-handed reading on the move.

Accessories and what comes in the box
TCL lists the T-Pen, a flexible flip case, protective TPU case, stand and KB40 wireless keyboard as optional accessories, and says availability varies by country. TCL Canada’s listing for model 9491G showed a tablet, stylus and flip case in the package, but that regional configuration does not tell you what another country’s retailer will include.
Check the exact model and seller listing for the tablet, pen, case, charger and keyboard contents before comparing prices. A bundle can change the value substantially, and the presence of a pen in one regional package is not evidence that every NXTPAPER 14 ships with one.
Software and support outlook
Tech Advisor’s review, dated December 11, 2024, tested a configuration running Android 14 and reported a commitment of one major Android version update and three years of security updates. That is review-era information, not a guarantee for every regional model or a statement of support status in 2026. Before buying, ask TCL or the retailer for the support terms applying to the exact model and country.
Should you buy the TCL NXTPAPER 14?
Consider it if you specifically want a large matte display for reading, documents and media, and you are comfortable using a 760g tablet with a stand or other support. Its display modes and ample built-in storage are more distinctive than its processing power.
