What Hi-Fi? reported a five-star review on 6 October and, in a deal article published 8 October 2026, listed it for £1,519 at Richer Sounds with code TCL20PERCENT, down from £1,899. That was a reported 20% reduction (£380); the price and promotion are not confirmed as currently available.
What was the reported deal?
What Hi-Fi?’s 8 October 2026 deal article named Richer Sounds as the retailer offering the TV for £1,519 after applying code TCL20PERCENT, against a stated previous price of £1,899. It also mentioned Peter Tyson, but did not establish a separate price there. The figures describe the offer as reported at publication, not a live price check. What Hi-Fi?’s deal article

What did the five-star review highlight?
Picture quality
The review summary describes bright, colourful and detailed pictures, with a notably three-dimensional appearance and crisp native 4K detail. It credits local dimming with helping produce bright highlights and deep blacks. Those are the review’s reported findings, not a guarantee that every viewer or viewing setup will see the same result.

- High Zones & High Brightness: Up to 4000+ Discrete Dimming Zones and up to 6,000 Peak Nits combine for a picture that is brighter, deeper, and more realistic.

Brightness and local dimming
The deal article reports TCL-claimed peak brightness of 5,000 nits and 2,040 local dimming zones. It also describes the C8L’s Super Quantum Dot technology as intended to improve efficiency, stability, brightness, colour range and colour accuracy over traditional Quantum Dots. These are specifications and technology claims as reported by What Hi-Fi?, not measurements independently established here.
Gaming
Listed gaming features include 4K at up to 144Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). The article also says the TV can reach 288Hz at HD resolution, and reports 10.1ms input lag. It gives no test conditions or measurement method for that lag figure, so it should not be treated as a directly comparable result across reviews.

Built-in sound
The review summary describes a Bang & Olufsen 2.1.2-channel sound system and praises its spatial presentation, while noting that sound can sometimes lose coherence and emphasize the wrong elements. That caveat matters if you expect the TV’s built-in speakers to handle every programme or film equally well.

Is this the right TV for you?
The reported review makes the C8L a promising option if you want a large 4K screen with Mini LED local dimming, a broad set of HDR formats and high-refresh-rate gaming features. Whether it is the right buy depends on the current price and your priorities: compare it with other TVs at the same screen size and price, paying particular attention to tested picture performance, gaming features, supported HDR formats, smart-TV platform and sound.
The deal article does not provide a head-to-head comparison, so its five-star review and reported offer do not establish that the C8L is the best TV in its class. For a purchase decision, confirm the offer directly with the retailer and compare the models you are considering on the features that matter most to you.
