TCL 65P745 Review: Specs, Gaming Limits, and What to Check Before Buying

The TCL 65P745 is a 65-inch 4K Google TV whose published specifications point to a feature-rich budget-oriented set, but the available evidence does not establish how it performs in real viewing or gaming. TCL Australia lists a 3840 × 2160 DLED panel, 280-nit brightness, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ decoding, and DLG “120Hz” with an explicit “Up to 2k” qualification. That is not evidence of 4K at 120 Hz. The detailed figures below are TCL Australia specifications, not independent test results; check the exact model suffix and local manual before buying.

What is the TCL 65P745?

The 65P745 is the 65-inch model in TCL’s P745 4K UHD TV series. TCL Australia identifies it as a 65-inch 4K Ultra HD Google TV, while TCL’s global support listing names the model “TCL P745 4K UHD TV.” TCL Philippines also lists the 65P745 among the series’ available sizes. These regional listings confirm the model name, not that every country receives identical hardware, software, or included accessories. TCL Australia’s product page and TCL Philippines’ P745 page are useful starting points, but compare the suffix on the box or retailer listing with your country’s support page.

This is a specification-led review, not a hands-on verdict: the figures and feature descriptions below come from TCL Australia’s model-specific sheet, and no independent measurements or listening tests are established here. TCL Australia 65P745 specifications

How good is its picture on paper?

TCL Australia lists a 3840 × 2160 resolution, DLED backlight, 280 nits brightness, 5000:1 contrast ratio, 6.5 ms grey-to-grey response time, and a 178° horizontal/vertical viewing angle. These are manufacturer-published specifications; they do not tell you how bright a particular sample gets in real scenes, how it handles reflections, or how accurate its colors are.

  • 144Hz Panel Refresh Rate: Watch action-packed movies, fast-paced video games, and live sports with an ultra-smooth viewing experience, free of motion blur
  • TCL AIPQ Pro Processor: Powerful, advanced processor that intelligently optimizes the color, contrast, and clarity for an unrivaled 4K HDR experience
  • Dolby Atmos Audio: Advanced spatial audio processing can be found in movies, TV shows, and video games.

The sheet lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ decoding, as well as Movie, Game, Sports, and PC picture modes. Format decoding means the TV can process supported HDR formats; it does not establish peak HDR brightness or demonstrate that highlights will look especially impactful. The published brightness figure is 280 nits, and there are no independent picture measurements available here to show how the set performs in a bright room or with HDR content.

Does the TCL 65P745 support 4K at 120 Hz?

The Australia specification sheet lists DLG (Dual Line Gate) “120Hz*” and explains the asterisk as “Up to 2k.” It also lists Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). On that evidence, do not treat the TV as a confirmed native 4K/120 Hz display. TCL Philippines promotes “120Hz Game Accelerator,” AMD FreeSync, HDMI 2.1, and MEMC for the P745 series, but that regional marketing language does not establish the exact operating mode of every country’s 65P745.

TCL 65-Inch R7D Series 4K UHD HDR Roku Smart TV, Game Accelerator 120
  • Real 4K HDR picture: A true 4K UHD (3840x2160) panel with Open HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG support delivers sharper detail and richer contrast than standard HD
  • Built for gaming and sports: Game Accelerator 120 plus Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Motion Rate 240 with MEMC combine to cut input lag and smooth out fast motion, so this 65 inch smart TV keeps up with consoles and live sports alike
  • Your next Roku TV: One simple home screen puts live local news, sports, movies, and thousands of free and paid streaming channels in one place — no separate streaming box required
  • Works with your smart home: Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit, plus built-in Google Cast and AirPlay 2 for mirroring video, music, and photos straight from your phone or laptop
  • FullView bezel-less design: A slim metal, nearly edge-to-edge bezel keeps the focus on the screen for a clean, modern look as the anchor of your living room or home theater

If gaming is a deciding factor, verify the local model’s manual and ask the seller or TCL which resolution and refresh rate each HDMI input accepts. Also check whether the specific unit supports the VRR mode your console or PC needs, and look for measured input lag for that exact model. The available Australia specifications do not provide verified input-lag results or a port-by-port resolution-and-refresh-rate table.

What ports and audio features does it have?

TCL Australia lists three HDMI inputs, described as HDMI 1.4b and HDMI 2.1, plus one USB 3.0 port. The sheet also lists HDCP 2.2, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, a headphone output, optical SPDIF, and HDMI eARC. It does not specify in the summarized information which HDMI port supports each particular mode, so consult the local manual when planning a console, receiver, or soundbar connection. TCL 65-Inch F7D Series QLED 4K UHD HDR Smart Fire TV, 65F7D (2026)
  • 4K UltraHD QLED color: Quantum Dot technology delivers over a billion vibrant, true-to-life shades in every scene
  • HDR PRO+: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 & HLG for enhanced contrast, accurate color, and fine detail across every format
  • Dolby Atmos + DTS:X: Full spatial audio support across both major formats - Dolby Atmos and DTS:X/DTS Virtual:X - for broader soundbar and content compatibility
  • Auto Game Mode (ALLM) + Game Bar: Automatic low-latency switching plus an on-screen overlay to fine-tune settings without leaving the game
  • Motion Rate 240 with MEMC: Best-in-class motion clarity for fast sports and action, double the motion rating of typical competing QLEDs, for an ultra-crisp, blur-free picture

For built-in audio, the specification sheet lists 2 × 9.5 W output and Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD decoding. Those are output and format specifications, not evidence of subjective sound quality. If you plan to use a soundbar or receiver, eARC is the relevant connection to check; confirm the required port and settings for your local variant.

What is Google TV setup like?

The Australia sheet identifies Google TV and 16 GB of storage. TCL’s P745 Series Operation Manual says: “To enjoy all smart features and services on your TCL Google TV, a free Google account, a free TCL account, and a reliable broadband internet connection are required.” The manual’s retrieved listing dates to approximately 2023; it does not state an exact publication date. What should you verify before buying?

The P745 name is not enough to confirm that a listing matches the Australian specification sheet. Before ordering, check the following against the unit and the manufacturer’s local support information:

  • Exact SKU: Confirm the full model number and country-specific suffix.
  • Gaming modes: Verify the maximum resolution at the claimed refresh rate, supported VRR or FreeSync mode, and which HDMI input supports it.
  • Connections: Check the local manual for port capabilities, especially eARC and the HDMI mode needed by your equipment.
  • Installation: Confirm dimensions, stand arrangement, VESA pattern, screw size, and mount rating for the local unit.
  • Included items and support: Check the bundled remote, tuner, firmware, warranty, and return terms with the seller or TCL for your region.

No current price, stock, warranty term, or return policy is established here, so those details need to be confirmed with the retailer in your market.

Who should consider the TCL 65P745?

It may suit someone seeking a 65-inch 4K Google TV and who values the listed HDR format decoding, eARC, and a broad set of connections. It is a less straightforward choice for a buyer who specifically needs confirmed 4K/120 Hz gaming, high measured HDR brightness, or proven built-in audio quality: the available specifications do not establish those outcomes. The sensible decision is to compare the local SKU’s verified modes and price with alternatives, rather than infer performance from a feature label alone.
