How good is its picture?
The 2022 reviews support the 65C835’s case as a contrast- and HDR-focused television. Frandroid praised its contrast and gaming performance, while Les Numériques also highlighted picture quality, contrast and HDR brightness. Mini LED backlighting is central to that appeal: it allows more localized control of illumination than a basic edge-lit LCD, though the reviewed TV’s brightness was not class-leading among Mini LED models.

There are viewing-position trade-offs. Les Numériques reported limited viewing angles, so picture consistency may be less satisfying for people seated far to the sides than for viewers centered in front of the screen. Consider the room’s seating layout, not just screen size, when deciding whether this model suits the space.
Is the TCL 65C835 good for gaming?
Gaming is one of its strongest documented uses. The Australian regional sheet lists HDMI 2.1 inputs, VRR up to 144 Hz and FreeSync Premium; Frandroid’s review also lists ALLM and low input lag among the positives. These features can support smoother, more responsive play when the console or PC, selected HDMI input, game settings and connection all support the desired mode.

Refresh-rate figures require care. A Turkish-market TCL product information sheet gives a 120 Hz image refresh figure, whereas the Australian sheet says VRR is supported up to 144 Hz. These are different documents and formulations—not a basis for treating every regional 65C835 as having identical capabilities. Check the local model documentation and confirm which input modes work with the device you plan to connect.
How good are the built-in speakers?
The Australian specification sheet describes an Onkyo 2.1 audio system. That is useful context, but it does not mean the TV replaces a dedicated sound system in every room. Les Numériques reported distortion and woofer vibration when volume was pushed high, and Frandroid also flagged audio shortfalls. If you regularly listen loudly or prioritize fuller sound, budget for an external audio system rather than assuming the built-in speakers will meet that need.

What do the power figures mean?
The available numbers come from different measurement contexts and should not be compared as if they were one test. Les Numériques reported 105 W while displaying a calibrated 150 cd/m² white test pattern, and stated that the result was 90 W/m² versus its 100 W/m² average for tested TVs. Separately, the Turkish-market TCL product information sheet lists 136 W for SDR on-mode demand, 300 W for HDR on-mode demand, and energy class G for both SDR and HDR. The label figures are not measurements of the review’s white-pattern test.
That distinction matters when estimating electricity use: a label value, a reviewer’s controlled test and household consumption under varied settings are not interchangeable. The Turkish figures are specific to that product sheet and market; consult the label for the precise regional model.

What are the main drawbacks?
- Limited viewing angles: Les Numériques found that the picture is best considered with seating positions in mind, especially for viewers off to the sides.
- Brightness is not a class leader: Frandroid noted that peak brightness does not lead the Mini LED class, despite the set’s favorable HDR and contrast reviews.
- Audio has limits at high volume: Les Numériques reported distortion and woofer vibration when pushed loudly.
- Power-use figures need context: the review test and market-specific label report different kinds of measurements.
- Repairability score is outlet-specific: Les Numériques assigned 6.8/10 under its own method; that is not a universal repairability standard.
Frandroid’s 28 December 2022 review also mentioned an unlit remote and menu placement among its criticisms. Its tested sample was loaned by the brand.

- Confirm the complete model identifier and region. Match the suffix on the retailer’s listing and the TV’s label to the local TCL documentation. Do not infer a 144 Hz VRR mode from a sheet for another market.
- Check the gaming chain. Verify that the particular HDMI input and the connected console or PC support the resolution and refresh mode you intend to use. A high-spec cable is not automatically required; the cited documentation does not establish that an existing cable is inadequate.
- Assess the room. If people regularly watch from the sides, take the reported limited viewing angles into account. If loud or more substantial audio matters, compare the built-in system with an external option.
- Compare power numbers on like-for-like terms. Distinguish a controlled test-pattern measurement from the SDR/HDR on-mode values on a regional product label.
- Verify the actual offer. Current stock and pricing were not established across markets. Confirm live availability, condition, warranty, return terms and the exact model before treating a listing as a suitable buy.
- Check mounting compatibility if wall-mounting. The Australian sheet lists VESA 400 × 400 mm. Confirm the local TV’s mounting pattern and dimensions, and check the mount’s load rating, wall material and required clearance.
How does it compare with another TV?
Use comparable evidence, not headline feature counts alone. Compare HDR brightness and contrast, including any blooming observations; viewing-angle performance for your seating arrangement; supported high-refresh input modes for your devices; sound at the volume you actually use; and power figures measured or labeled under comparable conditions. Then weigh those differences against the current price, warranty and condition of each specific offer.
