The TCL 65C655 is a 65-inch 4K QLED Google TV with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a useful built-in 2.1-channel audio system. Its main gaming caveat is easy to miss: the Australian specification lists DLG 120Hz with the note “Up to 2K for gaming,” so this is not a native 4K/120Hz television. Independent reviews also point to moderate HDR brightness and no local dimming in the 55–85-inch C655/C69B family. It may suit general streaming and casual gaming, but check the exact regional model and your expectations before buying.
What is the TCL 65C655?
It is a 65-inch 4K television using a QLED (quantum-dot) display and Google TV. TCL’s Australian specification sheet lists 3840 × 2160 resolution, 32GB of storage, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and a DLED backlight. The sheet gives 450 nits as typical brightness and a 6000:1 contrast ratio; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent lab measurements. TCL Australia’s 65C655 product sheet is the relevant reference for that market.

Model names do not guarantee identical specifications worldwide. TCL says features and specifications vary by model, screen size, and region, and may change. The North American Q651G and German 65C655X1 reviews below provide context, not direct test results for every 65C655 sold elsewhere. Check the full model identifier and local product page before relying on a feature or measurement. TCL’s global C655 page states that regional and size variations apply.

Does the TCL 65C655 support 4K at 120Hz?
Not according to the Australian 65-inch specification. It lists 4K resolution and DLG 120Hz, but qualifies the gaming mode with the exact footnote “Up to 2K for gaming.” That means the listed 120Hz mode is resolution-limited; it should not be treated as native 4K/120Hz.

Independent coverage reinforces the distinction while describing other regional models. Choose.TV says C655/C69B televisions from 55 to 85 inches do not support 4K at 120Hz, though it lists 1080p/120Hz and 1440p/120Hz modes with VRR. RTINGS’ North American review identifies the 65Q651G as a 60Hz panel with Game Accelerator 120 and recognizes 1080p/1440p at 120Hz with VRR. Neither review is a direct test of the Australian 65C655, so verify the exact model and console or PC mode you intend to use. Choose.TV’s C655/C69B review and RTINGS’ Q6/Q651G review explain their respective test families.
How good is its picture, especially HDR?
The format support is broad for this class: TCL lists both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. But format badges alone do not indicate how bright or dramatic HDR will look. The Australian sheet’s 450-nit figure is a typical manufacturer specification, while Choose.TV reports around 450 nits average brightness across its HDR test patterns for the reviewed C655/C69B family. Those figures come from different methods and should not be treated as equivalent measurements.

For a separate regional data point, connect’s 2025 review of the German-market 65C655X1 measured 406 cd/m² in HDR and 380 cd/m² area/peak white under its own test method. These are results for that tested unit, not a guaranteed result for all regional variants. connect’s 65C655X1 review provides the measurements.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoose.TV and RTINGS both identify the absence of local dimming in their reviewed 55–85-inch C655/C69B family and North American Q651G, respectively. Without local dimming, the television cannot dim separate screen zones to strengthen contrast around bright HDR highlights. RTINGS also describes the tested Q651G’s overall picture quality as mediocre. These are review-family and regional findings rather than direct measurements of every C655 variant; still, they are reasons to keep HDR expectations moderate rather than assuming premium-level contrast from the format labels.

- 4K UltraHD QLED color: Quantum Dot technology delivers over a billion vibrant, true-to-life shades in every scene
- HDR PRO+: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 & HLG for enhanced contrast, accurate color, and fine detail across every format
- Dolby Atmos + DTS:X: Full spatial audio support across both major formats - Dolby Atmos and DTS:X/DTS Virtual:X - for broader soundbar and content compatibility
- Auto Game Mode (ALLM) + Game Bar: Automatic low-latency switching plus an on-screen overlay to fine-tune settings without leaving the game
- Motion Rate 240 with MEMC: Best-in-class motion clarity for fast sports and action, double the motion rating of typical competing QLEDs, for an ultra-crisp, blur-free picture
Is it good for gaming?
The Australian sheet lists ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and DLG 120Hz, but specifies that the latter is “Up to 2K for gaming.” That makes the advertised high-refresh option more relevant to players willing to trade resolution for smoother motion than to someone seeking 4K at 120Hz. Choose.TV reports VRR and 1080p/120Hz and 1440p/120Hz support for its 55–85-inch C655/C69B review family. RTINGS reports slow pixel transitions on the tested Q651G, which can hinder motion clarity, so a high-refresh input mode should not be read as proof of top-tier gaming response.
connect measured 9.4 ms game-mode latency on its German 65C655X1. That is one publication’s result under its test conditions; it is not a measurement for the Australian unit or every console setup. Before buying for competitive play, confirm support for your source device’s resolution, refresh rate, and VRR combination, and look for testing of the exact regional model where possible.

What features and connections does the Australian 65C655 list?
TCL’s Australian sheet specifies the following. Port versions are listed in the source, but the extracted table does not map each version to an individual HDMI socket.
| Area | Australian 65C655 specification |
|---|---|
| Smart TV and storage | Google TV; 32GB storage |
| HDR formats | HDR10+; Dolby Vision |
| HDMI | Three inputs; HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 listed; HDMI eARC |
| Other connections | One USB 3.0; Ethernet; dual-band Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 5.2; headphone output; optical output |
| Audio | 2.1-channel Onkyo audio; 2 × 10 W plus 15 W; built-in subwoofer; Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X listed |
| Remote | RC833 listed as the included remote |
Google TV provides the platform, but app availability can depend on country and service. Check the local app store and the exact set’s connection layout if a particular streaming service, sound system, or console is essential. The listed eARC and optical outputs allow connection to a compatible soundbar or receiver; the built-in 2.1-channel system means an external speaker is optional rather than automatically necessary.

Will it fit your room and wall mount?
The Australian sheet lists a width of 1444 mm and weight of 17.1 kg without the stand. With the stand, the dimensions are 1444 × 893 × 295 mm and the weight is 17.4 kg. Without the stand, it measures 1444 × 831 × 69.5 mm. Leave room for the stand depth or for cable bends behind a wall-mounted set.
For wall mounting, the listed pattern is VESA 400 × 300 mm with four M6 × 16 screws; the wall bracket is not included. Confirm that the mount supports the television’s weight, matches the pattern and screw requirements, and is suitable for the wall material. Regional packaging or specifications may differ, so verify them against the unit being installed.
Who should consider the TCL 65C655?
It is worth considering if you want a large 4K Google TV with QLED color technology, mainstream HDR format support, and the convenience of built-in 2.1-channel audio. Its gaming modes may be useful if you accept lower-than-4K resolution for higher refresh rates. The decision is less compelling if native 4K/120Hz, strong HDR impact, local dimming, or proven motion handling is central to your purchase.
Compare it with similarly sized televisions available in your country on these points:
- Native refresh rate versus resolution-limited 120Hz modes.
- Local dimming and independent HDR brightness results.
- Input lag, VRR behavior, and motion response for the console or PC you use.
- Streaming apps available in your country, plus the HDMI/eARC layout you need.
- Current local price, warranty, and the exact model suffix.
Because regional models and local prices differ, there is no universal value verdict. Compare current listings and warranty terms in your market rather than assuming reviews of the Q651G or 65C655X1 map directly to your unit.
