The TCL 65A300W is best understood as an art-first television, not a home-theater upgrade. Its matte screen, framed design and 4K/144Hz VRR specification are appealing, but independent testing found weak HDR brightness, gray-looking dark scenes and blur in fast motion. Consider it if the art display and installation fit your room; look elsewhere if picture impact is the priority.
What is the TCL 65A300W?
The 65A300W is a 65-inch 4K QLED television designed to resemble framed art on a wall. Its name varies by market: TCL US uses NXTVISION, Australia uses NXTFRAME, and the UK calls it NXTVISION A300W. RTINGS says TCL renamed the lineup from NXTFRAME QLED to NXTVISION QLED in 2025, so check the model suffix and local listing rather than assuming the names identify different televisions.

In the US, TCL lists 3840 × 2160 resolution, edge-lit LED backlighting, Google TV, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG. It specifies a 120Hz panel with VRR up to 144Hz, four HDMI ports including one eARC, Wi-Fi 5, Chromecast, AirPlay 2 and 20W built-in audio. These are US-market specifications, and TCL notes that specifications can change and some features may need software updates. TCL US specifications

How good is the picture for movies and TV?
HDR and dark scenes are the main weaknesses
RTINGS bought and tested the 65-inch 65A300W and found its conventional picture performance underwhelming. The TV lacks local dimming, so it cannot selectively dim areas of the backlight. In dark scenes with bright highlights, blacks can look gray; RTINGS also found HDR brightness poor, with HDR content appearing dimmer than the filmmaker intended. That limits the contrast and impact that make HDR worthwhile.
For SDR shows and everyday viewing, the set upscales lower-resolution material well and handles heavily compressed, low-quality video effectively, according to RTINGS. Those strengths do not offset the brightness and contrast limitations for a movie-focused setup. RTINGS testing and review
The matte screen changes how reflections look
The matte coating reduces the intensity of direct light sources, which can be useful when a lamp or window would otherwise reflect sharply. It does not make the screen glare-proof: it spreads ambient reflections over a wider area. In bright rooms, RTINGS also observed raised-looking blacks and less saturated colors, while SDR brightness struggled to overcome glare. The result is a different reflection pattern, not a simple solution to a bright room.

Viewing angle and motion have limitations
RTINGS reports image degradation when viewed from aggressive angles, so the 65A300W is a less suitable fit for wide seating arrangements. Fast-moving action can also look blurred because pixel transitions are slow. That may be noticeable in sports and games even though the panel advertises a high refresh rate.
Is the TCL 65A300W good for gaming?
It has useful gaming features on paper. TCL US lists VRR up to 144Hz, and regional specifications include ALLM and FreeSync Premium. RTINGS reports low input lag and modern connectivity, but also flags slow pixel transitions that blur fast action and a Game Mode chroma 4:4:4 issue. The refresh-rate ceiling is therefore not a complete measure of gaming performance: responsiveness and motion clarity matter too.
For a buyer who wants an art-style display and flexible refresh-rate support, the feature set may be attractive. For competitive play or consistently crisp motion, the independent review’s blur finding is a significant caveat.

What is the art mode and what comes in the box?
TCL says its global A300 series can display more than 100,000 pre-generated AI artworks, and can show art while the TV is off. The images are not created in real time; TCL describes them as pre-generated. TCL Global A300W features
Included accessories depend on region. The US listing says the set is not VESA compatible and includes TCL’s proprietary flush mount. TCL’s movable floor/table stand, model FSD85ART-O, is optional and sold separately. Do not assume an ordinary VESA mount will fit; confirm a compatible mounting solution before buying. The UK listing says the Dawn Birch magnetic frame and ultra-slim mount are included there; alternate frames and stands are optional and may not be available in every country. RTINGS also notes that the magnetic decorative frame can be knocked loose. Check the package contents and accessory availability with the local retailer, especially if the frame finish or floor stand is central to your plan. TCL UK product details

How does it compare with other art TVs?
RTINGS’ comparison describes the TCL and Hisense CanvasTV 2024 as similar overall, with the Hisense brighter. In that review’s model-year and price context, Samsung The Frame 2024 was brighter and more accurate, but more expensive. These are review-specific comparisons, not permanent rankings: current models, prices and availability may have changed.
When comparing alternatives, focus on the differences that affect your use rather than the art-TV label alone:
- Picture: SDR and HDR brightness, dark-scene contrast and motion response.
- Room: how each screen handles direct reflections and spread ambient light.
- Gaming: supported inputs and refresh features alongside measured motion behavior.
- Installation: included mount, frame, stand compatibility and accessory costs in your market.
- Value: the current local price, not a past review’s price comparison.
Should you buy the TCL 65A300W?
Choose it if the framed art-TV appearance and matte finish matter more to you than high-impact movie performance, and the local price and installation package make sense. Its art mode and up-to-144Hz VRR support add useful appeal, but neither turns it into a strong all-around choice for every room or viewer.

Important outdoor limitation
TCL says the TV is not weather resistant and advises against prolonged outdoor use. Treat it as an indoor television, even if the art-style design seems suited to a patio or covered outdoor area. TCL outdoor-use guidance
