The publication called it the lowest price it had seen this year—not a verified all-time low. TCL’s US product page displayed $169.99 the following day, but the available information does not confirm that price is for the same storage configuration. Check the live listing, selected model and total price before buying.
Was $189.98 really the phone’s lowest price ever?
Not on the evidence cited in the October 6, 2026 Android Authority deal article. Its headline used “lowest price ever,” but the article body described $189.98 as the lowest price the publication had seen that year. No historical price series is available here to establish an all-time record.

Android Authority identified $284.98 as the reference retail price and described the offer as 33% off, or $95 in savings. Those are the publication’s comparison figures, not an independently verified market-wide price history. The reported Amazon offer was a Prime Day promotion for the 256GB version and required Prime; check whether it remains live before relying on it.

How does that offer compare with TCL’s listed price?
TCL’s US product page displayed $169.99 when accessed October 7, 2026, one day after the Amazon deal report. TCL lists both 128GB and 256GB versions, and the available information does not establish which version the $169.99 price applied to. The two prices also come from different retailers and dates, so they are not a confirmed like-for-like comparison.

What makes NXTPAPER different?
The defining feature is TCL’s NXTPAPER display, which the company describes as reducing glare and filtering blue light. A dedicated NXTPAPER Key activates Max Ink Mode, a reading mode intended to make the phone easier to use for reading. These are TCL’s descriptions of its display technology and reading features; they are not independent test results.
TCL announced North American availability on May 1, 2025. Its launch release said Canadian sales began that day through Bell, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Rogers, SaskTel, Videotron and Virgin Plus at a starting price of CAD $325. That is historical Canadian launch information, not confirmation of present carrier availability or a US price.

Who should consider this deal?
The 256GB configuration is the one to focus on if you want more built-in storage, while the NXTPAPER screen and one-button reading mode are the phone’s distinctive features. Whether $189.98 is worthwhile depends on the current offer and the price of the exact configuration you want—not the “lowest price ever” headline alone. If you need more room for files, TCL lists microSD expansion up to 2TB, with the card purchased separately.
