What is the TCL 55C6K?
The 55C6K is a 55-inch 4K television using a QD-Mini LED backlight and Google TV. This review focuses on the UK model identified by TCL as the 55C6K-UK; some hardware and feature details below come from TCL’s Australian specification sheet and should not be assumed to apply identically to every market.

TCL UK lists a native 144 Hz refresh rate, QLED, a matte HVA panel, an AiPQ Pro processor and an ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi audio system for the UK version. TCL advertises up to 512 local dimming zones for the C6K series, but that is a range-level maximum—not the number reported for the tested 55-inch unit. TechRadar reports that its 55-inch sample had 180 zones.
How good is the picture?
Bright-room viewing and HDR
AVForums recommends the set for bright-room viewing and describes its SDR performance as good for the price. TechRadar measured peak HDR brightness of 705 nits in Filmmaker Mode and 984 nits in Standard Mode, each on a 10% window. These are results from that review’s test conditions, not a guarantee of brightness on every unit or in every picture mode.

The tested TV supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, according to TechRadar. The Australian specification sheet separately lists HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ. Feature support can vary by regional version, so check the specifications for the exact model offered where you live.
Dark-room limitations
The lower zone count can be more apparent when watching in a dark room. AVForums reviewer Phil Hinton observed blooming, dirty-screen effect (DSE) and clouding in dim surroundings, especially when viewing off-axis, on the review sample. These are sample-specific review findings, not evidence that every 55C6K will show the same severity.

TechRadar also found that some textures and colours could look flat and that contrast could be better. If you watch films mostly in a dark room or sit well to the side of the screen, those observations are worth weighing against the TV’s price and gaming features.
Is the TCL 55C6K good for gaming?
Gaming is one of the clearest reasons to consider the set. TechRadar reports support for 4K at 144 Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR) with AMD FreeSync Premium, auto low-latency mode (ALLM) and Dolby Vision gaming. Those features make it a capable match for compatible consoles and PCs, although the source material does not establish performance for every game, input or regional variant.

TCL Australia’s 55C6K specification sheet lists four HDMI 2.1 inputs. Because this is an Australian specification, verify the input count and port capabilities against the local model listing before planning a multi-device setup.
How are the built-in speakers?
TCL UK describes the 55C6K-UK as having an ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi system, and the Australian sheet also lists a 2.1-channel Onkyo system. Despite that branding, TechRadar says built-in sound is not the set’s best feature. If you want fuller or more powerful audio, consider an external soundbar; TCL Australia lists eARC, but compatibility should be checked for your local TV and audio device.

For a wall installation, match the mount’s VESA pattern and weight capacity to the exact television variant. The Australian sheet confirms the 300 × 300 mm pattern and says the bracket is not included; it does not establish compatibility with any particular mount.

What did reviewers say, and what did it cost?
TechRadar’s 2025 review highlights gaming features and value, while noting picture and sound compromises. AVForums awarded the model 7/10 in its review published on 25 October 2025, recommending it for bright rooms but reporting uniformity issues in dim surroundings. Both assessments concern review samples and should not be treated as a guarantee of performance on an individual set.
Prices cited in those reviews are historical, not current offers. TechRadar reported a £799 launch price and a £599 price for the 55-inch UK model in 2025; AVForums listed a £479 MSRP when its review was published. The figures differ by source and publication context, and neither establishes today’s price or stock. Check a local retailer for the current offer and confirm the regional model suffix before ordering.
Who should buy the TCL 55C6K?
- Consider it if you want a 55-inch 4K TV with 144 Hz gaming support and primarily watch in a bright room.
- Compare alternatives if dark-room uniformity, contrast or off-axis viewing is a priority.
- Plan for external audio if the built-in speakers do not meet your needs; eARC is listed on TCL Australia’s specification sheet, but confirm it for the local variant.
- Check before purchase the current price, stock, model suffix and region-specific specifications rather than relying on a range-level feature or old review price.
How it compares with the TCL C7K
In TechRadar’s comparison, the C7K is described as brighter and as having better built-in sound, while the C6K is positioned as the lower-cost option. That is a review-time comparison, not a live price ranking. Compare same-size models at current local prices, and consider refresh rate and gaming support, dimming behavior in bright and dark rooms, off-axis viewing, HDR formats and built-in audio before choosing.
