The TCL 43P8M is a discontinued 43-inch 4K Android TV. TCL’s New Zealand specification sheet lists a 3840 × 2160 panel, Chromecast built-in and two HDMI inputs, but those are manufacturer specifications—not independent picture-quality results. CHOICE marks the model discontinued, and its detailed test results are members-only. Treat this as a guide to the documented features and checks to make before buying one, rather than a performance verdict.
What the TCL 43P8M is—and what this review can establish
TCL identifies the 43P8M as a P8M Series 4K UHD AI Android Smart TV. The detailed specifications available for this guide come from TCL New Zealand, while CHOICE lists the model as a 43-inch LCD with 4K resolution and marks it discontinued. Regional versions may differ, so the New Zealand sheet should not be taken as proof that every market received the same ports, services, accessories or warranty.

Picture specifications: 4K is clear; HDR performance is not
TCL New Zealand lists a 43-inch screen with 3840 × 2160 resolution and describes it as 4K HDR. The sheet also states 270-nit brightness, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, and Clear Motion Rate 100. These are manufacturer-stated figures, not independent measurements; TCL notes that product specifications may change.

“Clear Motion Rate 100” is TCL’s motion specification label. It is not evidence of a native 100 Hz refresh rate. Likewise, the 4K HDR label confirms how TCL describes the format support, not that HDR images are especially bright, contrast-rich or impactful. The available independent page does not provide a visible test score to resolve those questions.
Android TV and streaming features
The New Zealand sheet lists Android TV, Chromecast built-in, Google Play Store, Netflix and YouTube. App catalogues and platform support can change over time and by region; the listed services should not be read as a guarantee that every app remains available or works on every 43P8M today. TCL’s global P8M page is family-level context and includes legacy service copy, so check the exact set and region for current compatibility before relying on it as your main streaming device.

TCL’s Mongolia support FAQ covers owner questions about USB playback, remote operation, accessories, video and power. It is useful as a pointer to support topics, not proof that a specific fault is common or that an accessory is compatible. The 24-month warranty displayed on TCL Mongolia’s page applies to that territory and should not be generalized to other countries.

Ports, audio and physical specifications
TCL New Zealand lists two HDMI inputs: one HDMI 1.4a and one HDMI 2.0, with HDCP 2.2. It also lists one USB 2.0 input, Ethernet, single-band 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optical SPDIF audio out, HDMI ARC, a headphone output and an AV input. This is a modest connection set; count the devices you need to connect before choosing the TV, especially if they would use HDMI simultaneously.

Wall mounting the 43P8M
TCL specifies a 100 × 100 mm VESA mounting pattern and M6 screws; the wall bracket is not included. Before installation, confirm the pattern on the TV itself, check the mount maker’s weight rating and hardware instructions, and verify the required screw length with both manufacturers. Do not assume a bracket or screws are supplied with a used set.

CHOICE marks the 43P8M discontinued. That does not rule out remaining stock or second-hand listings, but it makes the condition, support and terms of a particular sale central to the decision. Before paying, check these details directly with the seller:
- Exact model number and country variant, including any suffix on the rear label.
- Whether it is new, used or refurbished; inspect the screen, inputs, stand and remote if possible.
- Which accessories are included, and whether the seller offers a return period or warranty.
- Whether the apps and software you need still work on that specific TV in your region.
- Whether two HDMI inputs are enough for your devices.
- The price against current alternatives, comparing independently measured display performance where available rather than HDR or motion labels alone.
The model is easiest to justify when a verified, working set is priced appropriately for its age and limited connections. Without accessible independent test results or current app confirmation for the individual unit, the documentation alone is not enough to recommend it on picture performance or long-term smart-TV support.
