Tayven Jackson threw four touchdown passes and scored North Texas’s winning touchdown on a 1-yard run in overtime as UNT beat Tulsa 45–44 on October 1, 2026. Tulsa had tied the game at 38 with 31 seconds left in regulation, then scored in overtime but missed the two-point conversion that could have won it.
How North Texas beat Tulsa in overtime
The American Conference opener for both teams turned on two late scoring plays. Baylor Hayes ran for a 10-yard touchdown with 31 seconds remaining to bring Tulsa level at 38 and force overtime. In the extra period, Jackson put North Texas ahead with a 1-yard touchdown run. Damari Alston answered with a 2-yard touchdown run for Tulsa, but the Hurricane’s two-point attempt failed.
The game was played at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa. The official box score records attendance of 14,938. Tulsa’s official box score documents the scoring sequence.
Tayven Jackson’s passing and overtime touchdown
Jackson completed 24 of 39 passes for 332 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions, then added the 1-yard rushing score in overtime. His four touchdown passes accounted for North Texas’s passing scores; the overtime run supplied the decisive touchdown.

How the lead changed
North Texas led 10–0 after the first quarter, but Tulsa scored 17 points in the second to take a 17–10 halftime lead. UNT answered with 21 points in the third quarter and entered the fourth ahead 31–24.
Tulsa tied the game at 31 on a David Wells Jr. touchdown reception. Jackson then connected with Justin Stevenson for a North Texas touchdown. Hayes’s late 10-yard run made it 38–38 and sent the game to overtime. The official Tulsa game recap also describes the comeback and finish.

North Texas’s ground game and team-stat edge
Jahiem White carried 32 times for 219 yards and a touchdown for UNT. Max Reese caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Stevenson had two touchdown receptions. Hayes was responsible for three Tulsa passing touchdowns as well as two rushing scores, according to the North Texas recap.
