Why Tata Sons’ listing is at issue

The disagreement reflects different views of what a listing could mean. The signatories’ reported position was that seeking to keep the company unlisted followed earlier trust positions. Reuters also reported, as context, that two trustees had supported listing in media interviews and argued that expansion, including in semiconductors, would require more capital than the group could generate internally. What is known about the RBI and a possible restructuring
Reuters reported that the Reserve Bank of India had rejected Tata Sons’ request for an exemption from rules that would require listing, and that a restructuring proposal was under consideration. The report did not include the RBI order or the exact rule text. It also did not establish that a listing date or approval had been set, or that a restructuring had been adopted.
