Tangkwa Journal is described as a personal AI diary built for a friend in ENT training. That is the extent of what can be independently confirmed about this specific project: no public app listing, project page, or independent account was found to verify its features, authorship, or use. Any account of how it works or what changed for its user needs to come from the maker’s own records and the friend’s consent.
What is Tangkwa Journal?
The title presents Tangkwa Journal as a softly designed AI diary made for a friend in ENT training. There is no independently verifiable public description of the project, so it is not possible to establish whether it is a working app, prototype, or concept—or what “soft” means in its design. The project’s identity and connection to the friend are claims in the title, not facts confirmed by a public source.

A grounded maker story would explain the need the friend described, what the author actually built, whether the friend used it, and what feedback led to changes. It should also clarify what ENT training means in the friend’s setting. Without those details, it would be misleading to invent a workflow, feature list, or outcome.

What can an AI diary do—and what does that say about Tangkwa?
AI journaling apps take different approaches, but examples from other products do not establish Tangkwa Journal’s design. Haru’s App Store listing describes conversations with an AI character being shaped into a diary entry. The listing identifies ROH JOOHOON as the developer and says the app is compatible with iPhone and iPad and offers in-app purchases. Apple notes that the privacy information is provided by the developer and has not been verified by Apple; the listing includes categories the developer says may be collected or linked to the user. See Haru’s App Store listing.

Tinta’s Google Play listing describes offline journaling and on-device AI, with an initial model download of about 1 GB. Those are the developer’s claims on the listing, not independently tested performance or a privacy guarantee. The page also cautions that data-safety disclosures may vary by use, region, and age. See Tinta’s Google Play listing.
These examples show why a description such as “AI diary” is not enough to infer how a particular app works. Nothing in the two listings confirms that Tangkwa uses chat, runs AI locally, works offline, or shares either product’s features.

What should a maker disclose about private writing?
“Private” needs a concrete explanation. Before someone writes sensitive reflections in an AI diary, they need to know who can access the text and what happens to it. A useful privacy checklist asks whether entries remain on the device, which AI providers receive them, how long they are retained, whether they may be used for model training, and how account, sync, export, and deletion features work. The Second Brain’s developer-authored privacy checklist raises the practical question of who can read an entry; it is a prompt for scrutiny, not a legal standard or independent audit.

For Tangkwa Journal, those implementation details are not established. A maker account should distinguish local storage from any text sent to an AI provider, name the provider and model where possible, and describe retention and deletion behavior plainly. If the friend’s training or personal experiences appear in the diary or article, their informed consent matters too.

Does journaling research establish a benefit for ENT trainees?
No. A 2023 paper describes MindfulDiary, a conversational mobile journaling app intended to help psychiatric patients document daily experiences. It concerns a different project and population; its abstract does not establish clinical benefit for ENT trainees or evaluate Tangkwa Journal. Read the MindfulDiary paper record on arXiv.
That distinction matters: a reflective writing tool is not automatically therapy, clinical support, or medical advice. Without evidence specific to Tangkwa and its user, claims that it improved wellbeing, eased training, or changed clinical practice would go beyond what is known.

How to assess an AI diary before using it
Do not choose by a reassuring tone or a broad privacy label alone. Check the practical details that determine where writing goes and what control the user retains:
- Data location: Are entries stored on the device, on a service’s servers, or both?
- AI processing: Does a prompt or full entry leave the device? Which provider receives it?
- Retention and training: How long is submitted text kept, and can it be used to train models?
- Account and sync: Is an account required? What data is synchronized across devices?
- User control: Can entries be exported and permanently deleted, and what does deletion cover?
- Fit and access: Which devices are supported, and are the writing and review flows accessible to the intended user?
For each answer, consult the app’s current listing and privacy terms rather than assuming a feature from another diary applies. Store disclosures are useful starting points, but they are vendor statements, not independent technical audits.
