That is an allegation relayed to a political leader during campaigning, not a verified comparison or proof that cash was distributed. TVK spokesperson M Sathya Kumar denied the charge.
What did the Left parties allege?
On October 2, 2026, Hindustan Times reported that Shanmugam said people in villages had told him TVK was offering the highest amount among parties. His account concerned campaigning in Madurantakam; the by-elections were scheduled for October 6 in Madurantakam and Dharapuram. The New Indian Express also reported Shanmugam’s account of conversations with voters during the Madurantakam campaign.
Shanmugam said, “However, reports are coming from the field that others are distributing money to voters on a massive scale. The Election Commission must take action on this, and the concerned leaders of such political parties must answer,” according to Hindustan Times. The reports do not independently establish that TVK or any other party distributed cash, or substantiate a ranking of the parties.
How did TVK respond?
TVK national spokesperson and advocate M Sathya Kumar rejected the accusation. Hindustan Times quoted him as saying: “This is just a mere allegation. It is nothing like that. The point is that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam will never give money for votes. Votes are only for the face of our Thalapathy (chief minister C Joseph Vijay).” This is the party’s denial, not an independent finding.

What was the election context?
The CPI(M) was contesting in Madurantakam and the CPI in Dharapuram. The two Left parties were reported as providing outside support to the TVK government while criticizing alleged voter inducement. Their support arrangement does not verify or resolve the cash-distribution claim.
There had also been an earlier complaint: DT Next reported that the AIADMK asked the Election Commission to investigate alleged cash distribution in both constituencies, citing television reports aired on September 22 about an alleged incident at Reddipalayam in Madurantakam. That complaint, too, is not proof of wrongdoing, and the cited report does not give an inquiry outcome.
