The project team says it aims to restore content, bring the game to 60 FPS, fix bugs, and add optional quality-of-life and battle changes. The date is still ahead as of October 7, 2026, so public testing has not yet begun.
What the open beta is—and what it is not
This is a community mod for the Steam release, not an official update or a new edition from Bandai Namco. The project team announced the October 11 open-beta date and describes the release as an opportunity for public testing. Its feature list and performance goals are the team’s claims; they have not been independently verified. Wccftech’s coverage also summarizes the planned changes.

The distinction matters because Bandai Namco’s official Tales of Symphonia Remastered is a separate release. The publisher launched it for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 17, 2023. The mod instead targets the Steam game.

The team’s stated aim is to make the Steam version a more complete and modern-feeling way to play the 2003 role-playing game. The announced work spans content, performance, presentation, and optional gameplay changes.

- AN EPIC ADVENTURE - Explore a rich and lively world filled with unforgettable characters and experience an emotionally charged storyline like never before
- FULLY RESTORED - Features graphically enhanced and improved gameplay
- THRILLING BATTLES - Play with up to 3 friends in local co-op mode to fight powerful opponents in real-time battles - Combine hundreds of special attacks and magic spells
- A 3D MASTERPIECE - Watch stunning anime cutscenes and become absorbed in endearing eel-shaded characters designed by renowned artist Kosuke Fujishima
- Content and localization restoration: The project describes goals of restoring material across versions and bringing back missing voice and text.
- Performance and bug work: The team aims to return the game to 60 FPS and correct bugs it attributes to later ports. A developer claimed that enabling 60 FPS led to more than 100 bugs being fixed; that is a project claim, not an independent audit.
- Visual updates: The team says it is updating textures.
- Optional combat and convenience changes: Wccftech reports planned Free Run, removal of the spell queue, more Arte shortcuts through an Artes Ball, manual Overlimit activation, and cutscene fast-forward. These are described as mod features, not verified results.
Because the beta has not started, players should treat these as announced plans rather than a guarantee that every feature will be present, complete, or enabled by default in the public build.
Which version of Tales of Symphonia this targets
The Steam page lists the PC edition’s release date as February 1, 2016, and says that version is based on the PlayStation 3 port of the original GameCube game. Bandai Namco dates the original’s Japanese launch to 2003 and its worldwide launch to 2004. The project’s “2003 classic” framing therefore refers to the original’s Japanese debut; the game reached other regions in 2004.

Bandai Namco says the Steam release already contains the in-game content found in Tales of Symphonia Remastered. Its Remastered Q&A describes the Steam version as running at 30 FPS and says the console remaster was optimized for stable 30 FPS performance. The fan mod’s 60-FPS target is a project goal, not a change to the official remaster or a publisher-supported upgrade.

The announced beta is for the Steam version. The project material cited for the date does not establish support for the official Switch, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One remaster, nor does it establish final compatibility details or the exact beta installation procedure. Check the team’s own announcement for the build and instructions when the beta opens rather than assuming that a console copy or another PC release is compatible.
