Most apparent failures are caused by a different English name in the reward popup, a missed story-window event, an uncompleted follow-up conversation, or a condition being completed for the wrong character. Bandai Namco’s October 15, 2026 launch-update notice does not identify a specific post-2.0.0 title-award bug, so verify those conditions before treating the problem as a software defect.
What a character title is checking
Titles are rewards tied to several different kinds of progress rather than one universal achievement meter. A title can depend on a level milestone, a particular skill or arte list, recipe mastery, a collection total, a quiz result, a minigame score or time, a difficulty challenge, or a story and location event.

That variety explains why a character can appear to meet a general goal while the title remains locked. “Finished the collection” may still require a conversation with a named NPC. A minigame title may use a score or time threshold rather than simple participation. A story title may only be awarded during one part of the journey. Always identify the character, the exact title-menu entry and the complete condition before deciding that the reward failed.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s October 15, 2026 launch-update notice lists version 2.0.0 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Its instruction is: “To ensure the best possible gameplay experience for Tales of Eternia Remastered, please apply the latest update before playing.” The update fixes some text bugs and changes cleared-save carryover so Titles are included among the elements available on a second and later playthrough.

Do not diagnose a title from an unpatched launch installation. After updating, close and restart the game rather than continuing from a session that was running while the patch installed.
The reward popup and Title menu may use different names
The short message displayed when a title is awarded is not always the same English label used in the character’s Title menu. RPG Site’s example is the advanced Tales quiz: its popup says “Tales Series Mega Mind”, while the menu calls the title “Teller of all Tales.”
When checking a reward, open the relevant character’s Title list and look for the menu label. Searching only for the wording shown in the notification can make an already-unlocked title appear to be missing. Record both names if you need to report a problem; the difference is a naming issue, not proof that the award failed.
A reliable seven-step fix
- Update and restart. Confirm that the game is on version 2.0.0 or later for your platform, fully exit the game and start it again.
- Open the correct character’s Title list. Check the menu entry, not just the temporary text box that appeared after an activity.
- Write down the exact requirement. Identify whether it asks for a level, skill or arte, recipe, Craymel, Lens or treasure total, quiz tier, minigame score or time, difficulty setting, story location or NPC conversation.
- Verify the threshold and completion state. A near-complete collection, an unmastered recipe or a score below the listed target does not count. If the requirement names a conversation or return visit, perform that step after completing the underlying task.
- Check the story timing. Look for an hourglass icon in the relevant event information. The remaster uses hourglass icons to mark title or item events that are available only during a limited period in the story.
- Reload or revisit. If the event is still available, return to the named NPC or location and trigger the follow-up. If the window has passed, load an earlier save from before the event.
- Use another playthrough when necessary. If no earlier save exists, clear-save New Game+ may be the practical recovery route. Check the carryover settings; version 2.0.0 specifically changed Title carryover for second and later playthroughs.
If all seven checks pass and the title still does not appear, capture the platform, game version, character, exact Title-menu label, save state and the precise condition you completed before contacting support. That information distinguishes a reproducible software issue from a missed trigger.
Requirement families and how to verify each one
Level milestones
Level titles are straightforward only when the correct character reaches the exact listed level. A party-wide level or the level of a different active character does not satisfy a character-specific title. Reid’s listed level milestones are 10, 30, 60 and 99. Check the character’s current level after the level-up has fully registered, then open that character’s Title list.

Skills and artes
Some titles require a particular skill or arte list, or a mastery condition rather than merely obtaining one ability. Compare the requirement with the named character’s own skill and arte screens. If the title calls for a list, confirm every listed entry; one missing ability can leave the title locked.
Recipes and cooking
Recipe titles use mastery or completion, not simply owning a recipe. Review the recipe list, identify any item that is not mastered, and finish the required cooking or recipe progression. Farah’s titles include recipe conditions, and the same requirement family appears in Reid’s and Chat’s lists.

Craymel and collection totals
Collection conditions can involve Greater Craymels, Lens totals, treasures, a Collector’s Book or a Monster Compendium. Keele’s list includes all Greater Craymels, recipes, the Collector’s Book, the Monster Compendium and location events. Reid’s list includes treasure and Lens goals. Count only the collection named by the title and verify that the final item has been registered in the relevant menu.
Quizzes
Quiz titles are tiered. Reid’s requirements include three Tales quizzes, and the advanced quiz is the case in which the popup and menu names differ. Confirm the quiz tier, not merely the fact that a quiz was attempted, and check the Title menu afterward for the menu wording.
Minigames and performance challenges
Participation is not enough when a title requires a score, time or successful completion. Reid’s listed challenges include the arena, speed and rafting activities, Craymel Ball, train bombing, Chamballoon, WHIS, sushi and Ocean Offensive. Recheck the result screen for the required score or time, and make sure the result was achieved with the character and mode named by the condition.

Difficulty and battle-count challenges
Difficulty titles combine a mode with a specific completion count. Reid has a condition for 256 battles on Hard-mode Berserker. Verify the selected difficulty before beginning the run and keep a written count if the game does not provide a progress counter. A similar number of battles on another difficulty does not qualify.
Story, location and NPC triggers
Story titles may require arriving at a location, returning after an event, or speaking to a named character. A collection or side quest can be complete while its title remains locked because the final conversation has not happened. Follow the requirement’s order: complete the underlying task, return to the specified location during the allowed story window and talk to the named NPC.
Character-by-character checks
Reid
For Reid, review level milestones at 10, 30, 60 and 99 first. Then check skill and arte requirements, recipe mastery, treasure totals and Lens goals. His list also includes three Tales quiz tiers, the arena, speed and rafting challenges, Craymel Ball, train bombing, Chamballoon, WHIS, sushi and Ocean Offensive. Finally, verify the 256-battle condition on Hard-mode Berserker. Because this set mixes permanent progression with performance and difficulty requirements, use the Title menu to mark each category separately rather than assuming one completed activity unlocks the whole group.
Farah
Farah’s titles include level, skill and recipe conditions, as well as skit, cooking-contest and sidequest requirements. For a skit or sidequest title, confirm that the event itself occurred and that any required follow-up conversation happened. For a cooking-contest title, check the contest result and the specified outcome rather than simply entering the contest.
Keele
Keele’s requirements include all Greater Craymels, recipes, the Collector’s Book, the Monster Compendium and location events. For collection titles, open the corresponding book or list and verify that the final entry is recorded. For location events, revisit the required place and speak to the specified person if the checklist calls for a return trigger.

Meredy
Meredy’s list includes fringing, letters, dance and story-location triggers. Treat these as separate requirement families: confirm the relevant fringing progress, check that every required letter is registered, verify the dance condition, and review the story location and timing for event-based titles. An hourglass marker means the event may no longer be available in the current save.
Chat
Chat’s titles include levels, skills, recipes, ship upgrades and Van Eltia activities. Confirm that the ship upgrade is installed rather than merely purchased or available, and verify the specified Van Eltia activity’s result. Her level, skill and recipe titles should be checked in the same way as the corresponding requirements for other characters.
Which titles are missable?
A title is missable when its trigger is tied to a limited story window. The remaster’s feature summary marks these events with an hourglass icon; the icon applies to title or item events that can only be obtained during a particular period. The presence of an hourglass is the key distinction between an always-available progression goal and a time-limited event.
If the window is open, return immediately to the named location and complete the conversation or event. If it has closed, the dependable recovery methods are an earlier save or another playthrough. Do not assume that revisiting the location late in the story will recreate a one-time scene.
When a missing title is probably not a bug
There is no authoritative report establishing a specific post-2.0.0 title-award bug. Until a platform-specific failure can be reproduced on the current version, classify the problem as one of four common states: the wrong English name was searched, the exact threshold was not met, a follow-up trigger or story window was missed, or the completion was made on a different character or save.

A useful test is to create a short record with five fields: platform, version, character, exact menu label and completed condition. Add the save location and whether an hourglass appeared. If support can reproduce the same missing award with those details on a current installation, the report is much stronger than “the title did not unlock.”
New Game+ and title carryover
Bandai Namco’s version 2.0.0 notice adds Titles to the carryover elements for second and later playthroughs. When an event was missed and no earlier save is available, start from a cleared save and inspect the New Game+ transfer settings before confirming the new game. Carryover behavior depends on those settings, so verify what is selected rather than assuming every title transfers automatically.
New Game+ is a recovery route, not a substitute for checking the original requirement. If the title depends on a quiz tier, minigame score, difficulty or story event, you still need to complete that condition in the new run unless the selected carryover option already preserves it.

What to record before asking for support
- Platform: Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S or Steam.
- Installed game version, confirming 2.0.0 or later.
- Character whose Title menu was checked.
- Exact title-menu label and, if different, the popup wording.
- The complete requirement, including level, list, score, time, difficulty, collection, location or conversation details.
- Whether the requirement was completed in the current save, an earlier save or a cleared-save New Game+ run.
- Whether an hourglass icon marked the event.
- The steps that reproduce the missing award after restarting the game.
This record also prevents a common support dead end: reporting a title as missing when it is present under a different menu name or awaiting one final conversation.
