If your work stays within 2D drafting and documentation, AutoCAD LT covers the core job at a different scope and is a separate subscription. The price you pay depends on your region, your term, and how you bill, so the U.S. list prices below are a starting point rather than a final quote.
We did not find a verified AutoCAD-specific discount, eligibility rule, or end date on Autodesk’s official pages as of October 2026. Treat the prices in this guide as official U.S. list prices, not as proof of savings.

What AutoCAD is
AutoCAD is computer-aided design (CAD) software that Autodesk describes as used for precise 2D and 3D drafting, design, and modeling. It works with solids, surfaces, mesh objects, and documentation features. Autodesk’s product page names architects, engineers, designers, students, project managers, real estate developers, and construction professionals among its users.

Full AutoCAD versus AutoCAD LT
Autodesk presents AutoCAD LT as a 2D drafting product and the full AutoCAD subscription as LT’s functionality plus 3D modeling, automation, APIs, add-on apps, and specialized toolsets. The table below sets out the differences that matter most for a purchase decision.
#1 Best Overall
| Capability | Full AutoCAD | AutoCAD LT |
|---|---|---|
| 2D drafting, drawing, and documentation | Included | Included (its core focus) |
| 3D solids, surfaces, and mesh objects | Included | Not included, per Autodesk’s description of LT as 2D-focused |
| Automation with AutoLISP and APIs | Included | Not included, per Autodesk’s comparison |
| Add-on apps | Included | Not included, per Autodesk’s comparison |
| Specialized industry toolsets | Seven toolsets included | Not included |
| Platforms | AutoCAD for Windows and Mac, AutoCAD Web, and mobile access to DWG work | Not stated in the sources reviewed; check Autodesk’s LT product page |
What the full subscription includes
2D and 3D design tools
The full product covers 2D geometry and 3D models in one application. Solids, surfaces, and mesh objects are the 3D building blocks Autodesk lists. Drawing comparison, counting, object addition, and tables are among the functions Autodesk cites on its product page.
Automation, customization, and extension
Customized workspaces and task automation are part of the offering. AutoLISP, APIs, and apps let teams extend the software to suit their own routines. If you repeat the same drafting steps across many drawings, this is the area where the full product separates itself most clearly from LT.
Rank #2
Specialized toolsets
The full subscription includes seven industry-specific toolsets, according to Autodesk’s FAQ. Autodesk’s product page cites an average 63% productivity gain for these toolsets, based on studies it commissioned from an outside consultant. The page does not state the study year, so treat the figure as a vendor claim rather than a dated measurement.

Quick Recap
- Open Autodesk’s Store for your country or region and select the AutoCAD subscription page.
- Compare the annual, three-year, and monthly options. Note the currency, tax treatment, and whether the price shown is for one user.
- Look for the free-trial, education-access, and offers or promotions sections. The Store lists routes to a trial, to education access, and to promotions, but the sources reviewed did not confirm the terms of any AutoCAD-specific offer.
- Read the terms shown at checkout, including the renewal rules, billing cycle, and any discount conditions, before you pay.
Which subscription fits your work
- Choose AutoCAD LT if your drawings are 2D only, you do not need 3D solids or surfaces, and you do not rely on AutoLISP, APIs, or add-on apps.
- Choose full AutoCAD if you model in 3D, script or automate repetitive drafting, or work in one of the seven specialized toolsets.
- Choose the three-year term only if you are sure you will use the software for the full period, since the sources show it as a single upfront-style commitment billed annually at the same per-year rate as the annual plan.
- Choose the monthly plan if your need is short-term, since it costs more per year than the annual plan at the listed rates.
