These controls have different scopes; none guarantees that every part of Instagram’s feed will stay fixed.
Choose a feed for posts from accounts you follow
Following: a chronological catch-up
Instagram’s Following view shows posts from accounts you follow in chronological order, without suggested posts, according to Meta’s August 2022 announcement. It can show posts from the last 30 days, so use it when you want to catch up on followed accounts rather than browse recommendations. The view is an option alongside the personalized home feed, not a permanent replacement for it. Meta’s announcement about Favorites and Following.

Favorites: prioritize a smaller set
Favorites highlights recent posts from accounts you choose. Those posts also appear higher in the home feed, and the Favorites view is chronological. Meta said in March 2022 that a Favorites list could include up to 50 accounts; people were not notified when added to or removed from a list. Adam Mosseri, then Head of Instagram, wrote: “Both Favorites and Following will show you posts in chronological order.” Meta’s March 2022 announcement.
Respond to individual recommendations
Use Not interested for a post you do not want
When a suggested post is irrelevant, choose Not interested on that recommendation. Meta says the post is removed from the feed immediately and Instagram will suggest fewer similar posts. This is a signal about that recommendation, not a block on an entire subject or a guarantee that similar content will never appear. Meta’s August 2022 announcement.

Snooze suggested posts for a temporary break
Meta’s August 2022 announcement describes an option to snooze suggested posts for 30 days. Treat it as a time-limited pause on suggestions, not a permanent setting or a promise that advertisements and every other kind of feed content will disappear. Meta’s announcement.
Filter recurring topic terms with Hidden Words
Hidden Words can be used to reduce recommendations containing words, phrases, emojis, or hashtags you specify. Meta said the feature was expanded to recommendations in January 2023 and applies to terms in captions or hashtags. Add terms associated with recurring unwanted recommendations; this is a targeted filter, not comprehensive filtering of every post about a subject. Adjust recommendations that may be sensitive
Sensitive Content Control is for content that may not violate Instagram’s Community Guidelines but could upset some people; Meta gave sexually suggestive or violent posts as examples. Its July 2021 announcement described three choices: Limit (the default), Allow to see more, and Limit Even More to see less. Meta said Allow was unavailable to people under 18 in that announcement. - Open your profile and tap the three-bar More options menu.
- Tap Content preferences.
- Choose Reset suggested content, review the prompt, and confirm.
Meta says the reset clears recommended content across Explore, Reels, and Feed. Recommendations then personalize again over time based on the content and accounts you interact with. The reset is therefore a fresh start, not a permanent switch that turns personalization off. When a setting is missing or named differently
Meta’s announcements describe feature behavior when published, rather than a universal current interface map. Labels, menu paths, regional rollout, and account availability may vary. If the reset path differs, look under the app’s current Content preferences. A reset also does not freeze future recommendations: subsequent interactions help shape them again.

Meta’s cited announcements do not report a measured success rate for these controls, so there is no supported percentage for how much they improve feed quality or satisfaction.
